Arcam made nothing yet what you can compare with the 504, not in looks , not in sound

I advised a colleague when this model came out new. He played it with a good set of B&W bookshelf loudspeakers and that was a pretty good combination. He was not an audiophile so his wishes were different. He liked the look very much for example. He still uses it every day and he is still very happy with it. His combination sounds much better compared to the video 😀

good b&w speakers? I have here the CM9 from B&W, terrible cheap sound, will review them soon. When the cm9 sound so bad how their bookshelfs can be good?
@jandewitt71785 жыл бұрын
vintage stereo I know you don’t want to hear it, but system integration, acoustic treatment and good speaker placement is what makes a speaker sound great (or not) 😎 Size is not an indication of quality 😁

I'm glad you said this. I got the next generation Arcam Solo Music. It got great reviews from lots of places. But my totem mites sounded thin. Then I found used totem arros. I know their sound, so I bought them. Again, not what I imagined. Maybe I need a marantz. Female voices: awesome. Horns, acoustic guitar: beautiful. Music as a whole; something's missing. Sounds slightly bright

True Andrew , Ive heard Arcam demo and they are only suited for Audiophiles , one single wooden piano or flute , very flat , dead & over prised . It looks like it sounds . It will not get anyone out of bed thats for sure .

you need to connect a DAB aerial to the connection they are very cheap to buy. but I wonder if its dab+ many dab stations don't go no more.

Bass correction should be in the middle I believe you've got it defeated turn off that's why there's no bass. They make some fantastic amplifiers there's nothing wrong with the amplifiers and I would recommend the amplifies to anybody I think you've got the bass turned off
@markrowe88245 жыл бұрын
I agree with the first part of your reply, he should have increased the bass correction from its minimum setting, the reason why is in the manual (available online) but the second part of your response is wrong, you cannot turn bass off on any amplifier, only make it more or less.
@johnsweda29995 жыл бұрын
@@markrowe8824 well I don't mean off as such my mistake, I mean turned right down I did say defeated, the idea of this is because you have two amplifiers in bi-amping you might want to have it controlling the higher frequencies only and another amplifier controlling the bass. I think that's what this sub button is on the remote control both volumes together
@markrowe88245 жыл бұрын
This is a clear case that reviewer should have rtfm (read the f**king manual) before dismissing the sound quality, as someone else said it should be equal or better than the marantz. Sorry but I still don't know what you mean by a "sub" button on the remote as a quick look at a picture of the remote (in the manual) shows no such button exists.

Have you done a review of that marantz DCC unit? That looks very interesting
@johnsweda29995 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use it as a pre out
@vintagestereo5 жыл бұрын
I later discovered that you can also use this thing as a separate dac converter but not sure if that would be a good converter, already regret selling it because I still don't have a DAC
@johnsweda29995 жыл бұрын
The DAC would have been good in its day and is still probably not bad but like any DAC they don't age well. You might like to look at the schiit modi 3 or 2 around $110 if you want something cheaper it won't be as good more than likely, the fiio E10k $60 if you want to Splash the cash ifi German company makes some good decs like the nano idsd Black Label and and the Nano ione £200 if you don't want to connect to computer. Ideally optical spdif connection would be ideal.

Hey Andrew, mijn smaak is het ook niet! Ik hou zowieso niet van stereo apparatuur van na 2000. Ik denk dat je een antenne had moeten aansluiten voor de dap en fm. Leuke review weer Andrew!! Groetjes Christiaan

Your review cannot be considered to be at audiophile level

i hear in 1 minute if a amplifier have a bad , medium, good ore excellent sound and 5/15 minutes to see how bad, how medium, how good ore how excellent...I heard so many amps that it's very easy to notice the difference....And yes, I am not a audiophile. A audiophile is a person who do everything to let his system sounds better. Even if his system is only a cheap one a audiophile will play with different inter connects, speaker cables, room acoustics to get the maximum result of his set.....I am not that person. There are other channels where audiophiles learn you how to get the best result out of your system. I never claimed to be a audiophile. The audiophile wants the best sound from his system....I will never buy expensive speaker cables, inter connects, and do room acoustic changes....if you are a audiophile you can let any system sound better ...from bad to excellent, they will all sound better but the gap between a bad and a excellent amplifier(when both had the same adjustments) will never be bridged, the gap will be the same as it was before the changes you make.....So if you think that a non audiophile can't review amps you are wrong.
