What impresses me the most about this story is the previous owner, Mitch. He understood and respected the emotional connection enough to get the car back into the hands of this family, likely leaving money on the table, instead of seeking maximum BaT profit. I agree, quite the gentleman. This car hobby needs more people like that.

Beautiful story. I had a 2000 camaro ss I purchased back in 2004. I met my now wife shortly afterwards and got married, started a family. I ended up having to sell it in 2013. Fast forward to 2019 my business was doing well and my wife and I were talking and I said what do you think about buying the camaro back. It was out in NM and the gentleman had always promised first right of refusal. I contacted him and he said he would absolutely sell it back. A month later it arrived and it will forever stay.

Oh man that's one of my favorite Camaros. I remember an old coworker had a 50th anniversary SS yellow with black stripes. He wouldn't sell it to me because I was still only 18. Well he sold it to a much older coworker at the ripe old age of 21 and he had it for 4 days, didn't even have insurance on it yet and he was doing a buck 40 down an old country road that followed a river so it was curvy and not well maintained. Well he took a corner at 100 and put it in a tree and nearly killed himself and his friend. Only thing that wasn't totalled was the motor and a couple rims. 12 years later and I bet he wished he woulda just sold it to me.

Love this story. In May 2009, I bought a new 09 black Mustang GT. It was the last 09 my local dealer had and they were getting 2010s in already. That fall I traded it for my first Wrangler. I loved the Jeep but always missed my Mustang. Years later I moved out of state. Skip ahead to November 2020 and a friend at that same Ford dealer texted me about this “low mileage Mustang”. Immediately I knew it was mine. I gave him the VIN number and confirmed it was my car. I drove straight there and bought it back. Amazingly, the guy who had bought it never reset my my radio presets. It’s now home and never going anywhere this time.

This story has me in the feels, my dad built an xc falcon from a wreck to an absolutely mint car, mild 302, c4, 9 inch, canary yellow. I saw it rock up on a tow truck in a million different shades of rust and primer and i cried when he sold it a few years later. If i ever see it again ill buy it back and gift it to him. We bought an e32 7 series and he has restored it and recently a kid came up to him at a car show and said that him and his dad had originally owned the car and did a heap to it, he asked my dad if he ever sold it to call him first, of course my dad agreed.

I was sad when I saw his obituary earlier this year . I wish I could have hung out with him more often. My family ran the Original Country Skillet in the Valley several years back. After I watched the Shelby video I drove by your old house on the way home and was happy to see the Ford Only parking sign still over the Garage ! You guys take care. Jim

To really appreciate this story you have to have had a strong family connection to a car. To have your earliest memories be of that car. Your entire families social life revolved around that car going to car meets and riding in it in parades. Only then can you truly understand that passion for a particular car.

I still have my first car. It came into the family when I was 10 or so. It had been parked for more or less 10 years in a garage. We used it for a little while and then parked it until I got my license. It was not very well suited to daily driving but I drove it until I needed something practical and reliable for college. Fortunately my great-grandmother had gotten too old to drive so she gave her car to me for free. That became my daily driver and my old Jeep became my nice day cruiser. I'll never get rid of it, it's part of the family.

This one hits hard for me. My grandpa and dad had went in together for a 1970 Roadrunner. Essentially nearly the same story, but both were car guys, tinkered and such on that car. I have a fair number of memories of the car and riding in it. Then my parents had a falling out, went their separate ways, car went with my dad. He continued to tinker and such with the car, then decided to fully restore it. Last time I saw it, it was in pieces all over the garage. He gets pretty evasive when asked about it, so pretty sure he's done something he probably shouldn't have in the moment. But it's that legacy feeling, of just not wanting to let go of that piece of family history, to tinker and work in the footsteps of those who were there before you. I pretty much keep an eye out just incase, until I get that firm answer from my dad on what happened.

It’s not often where I feel strong emotions from a KZbin video, but this one hit close to home. Earlier this year, I was blessed with the opportunity to purchase “the car that started it all for me” and my ultimate dream car. I grew up in my grandfather’s 84 Ferrari 308 GTS QV and it was always an earned treat to go for a ride and eventually drive it with him, many years ago. My uncle was the curator of it for close to fifteen years and it brought us together, among his other cars that we had/have an absolute blast driving. This now makes me the third generation family member to serve as the curator of this magnificent part of our family. Ultimately, these cars are about the stories and bringing people together. For me, it’s not a “hey, look at me” (yes, I see the irony of this post on social media). Seeing people light up when they see this car and how it sparks something within them is something I love to see. I remember being the young kid going to shows ogling over these cars and I hope sharing it with others at shows helps spark something in our youth and others for many years. As much as I look forward to being in this car’s next chapter of its life by being the curator of the stories and history, I look even more forward to it being a small part in the next chapters of my family’s life. So, I definitely get what Chad was feeling in this video and the emotions at play with a car that’s an extension of yourself. Thanks for sharing the story, Chad and Ed.

It's just an old clapped out truck but I could tell it was a piece of the family. Still have it 12 years later, still the offer stands.

This one hit me hard. I lost my father at 9 years old to a devastating disease. He owned a new 1972 Mustang Mach 1 Yellow with the black stripe well before I was born and sold it shortly after. Throughout the years I’ve always wondered where the car is and for my 16th birthday my cousin found the only picture of dads car and blew it up to a poster size for me and I’ve always wondered if I could ever find it. I’m 38 now and just so happen to own a 2002 GT Mustang that I love dearly and daily drive. Just the thought of being able to see the car, let alone sit in it and drive it gets me pathetically emotional. If I found the car right now I wouldn’t have the funds to purchase it but man I dream about it all the time.

Congratulations Chad!!! Love the car. I actually got to participate in restoring the exterior of 2 1969 Shelby GT500s that were sequential VINs (Before anyone asks, no, I do not remember the VINs for either of them). I was managing a bodyshop in Indianapolis IN so I got to block out the primer on both of them, then I got to paint 1 of the 2 Shelby's, TWICE. Funny story with that, the owner of both cars gave us the WRONG color code for the 1st one, that I sprayed, and we had to strip it down to primer and respray it. I mean we have juuuust finished cutting & buffing and reassembling the exterior and told the owner it was ready for pick-up to go to the upholstery shop. He shows up, looks at the car and drops his head and says "you guys are gonna hate me, I sent you the wrong paint code. It was on the darker end of the color code for this one". Then we all dropped our heads. 🤣 He made it right though. Since it was his fault, he paid us to undo, then redo every bit of paint work on that car. I don't know what ever happened to them or where they ended up but I wish just 1 of them ended up in my garage. I still dream of owning a 1969 GT500 but unfortunately it will never be in my price range.

I can appreciate the story. My father ordered a 1970 Corvette LT-1 coupe through some connections he had. He took delivery of his only new car, and had many great stories in it. He talked periodically about selling it, but fortunately never did. Unfortunately, he has alzheimers, and has declined more. I became the care taker of this car in February and it will NEVER be sold. I was brought home from the hospital in this car, prepared it for NCRS stuff, and such. There are so many memories. It sits next to my 1970 LS5 Corvette, that I bought from a family friend, who was like a second father. Those cars made me who I am today, and will be a part of my forever. I will be taking over the restoration of another 1970 Corvette that he had, and that is the one that I learned how to drive standard shift on. There are so many stories about these cars that make them far more special than just going to buy one from an ad.

If someone already asked this, I apologize. Why didn't he offer to sell the Shelby to you?

What a great story and what a beautiful car. There is something about a vehicle that elicits emotion. Something meaningful and yet, something that cannot be described. Today, I fired up one of my armored military vehicles; one that had been sitting dormant for over 15 years. So much water under the bridge since it last ran. Everything else always seemed to be getting in the way all those years. I was thrilled to hear it finally running again. There is much yet to be done with it but I feel like I have cleared the biggest hurdle. Looking forward to doing much, much more with it.

Mitch is a total hero…he probably could have sold the car 50 times in the years they spoke on it. He really wanted to get it back home. Well done Mitch!

What a superb story. Myself I bought an all original 1956 4-door hardtop Chevy Belaire almost like the one I owned as a teenager in the early 70's. I was thinking to modify to it look like my old one that I had put a 327 cu in engine, a Muncie 4 speed transmission with a Hurst shifter, gauges, paint, etc. However, I could not do the mods as its too beautiful of an original 30-year barn find. I had it transported to my home where I parked it inside my shop and still there untouched since 2014. I start it once in a while just to make sure the 265 cu in engine with the power pack 4-barrel carb does not get locked up.

Even though you couldn't ultimately keep both at least you have your father's car back & that is what really matters.

I’ve been looking for my deceased fathers 1972 mustang Mach one that was yellow with black stripes for 20 years now. He sold it when I was young and then he passed when I was only nine years old. The car has been gone without a trace ever since. I live in southeastern Pennsylvania so anytime I see one I always try to talk to the owner about the information they have on it. It would be life-changing to find it. Even if I could just sit in it

Theres some things that are worth more than money, like knowing your pride and joy has been and will be someone elses pride and joy to be looked after as well as you did.

What a story. I remember when my dad had owned a OG 68 Camero SS and when he passed, it literally just sat for about 10 years in the back yard. Mom was forced to sell it by state and sold it for $400 to family and never seen it again. Another was when I purchased a 57 vw kombi deluxe bus from dealer back lot for a few hundred back in early 2k's and mildly restored it with its original PGDG color combo. I had to make the tough choice, a house or the bus, so the bus was sold. I still have dealer papers in memory. Buy supposedly was going to ship to Japan and never heard or seen again no matter how much I tried searching. I should have chose the bus because less than a year later, we sold the house. 😔

Man, what a story...we probably all have stories of the "one that got away".. I've had many including a 65 mustang, cosworth Vega, 70 chevelle SS convertible, 72 455 HO formula ram air firebird, and others.... but...I was able to get the 51 GMC pickup that my great grandpa bought new...I said I'm not going to let this one get away...it's undergoing a full restomod treatment now.

It’s too bad that Mitch had no intention of selling the car in the beginning and just kept lowering the price to actually make a sale

Wow great story about the GT350. I love the ford mustangs to death. My favourite mustang is 78 mustang II king cobra all white with the blue strips and the cobra on the hood. As a child(preteen) my next door neighbour son had one that I helped to restore. After when it was done he use to take me for rides all the time in it until someone stole it wriped it around a telephone pole back in 83. It was a great car and that’s how i love my mustangs cause of the work that I help him on it. Lots of love from Canada 🇨🇦
