This claim was a BS run. Constantly says he did a "solo" run then says "WE" in multiple statements. Video shows camera video of difference scenes (while might not be of actual run). Says he had no equipment yet says he had a scanner. 159 or 69 miles per hour on a rental car. Don't rental cars have governers in them to prevent "wreck less driving" speeds. Shows pictures of guys. How did those other guys keep up. They would need the same set up to keep up with this mustang. I call a bullshit story. He has the smirk of a habitual liar. He believes his own lies. 24 hours is a 116.6mph average speed. 20 minutes of stop time pushes that to an average rolling speed of 118.3. This run was done with a pure average speed of roughly 108mph and was about as clean a run I have heard of. Gaining 8 to 10mph on the rolling average probably takes a top speed of 15-20mph more than the 159mph peak he had. Add in off throttle/on throttle, and where needed braking, to avoid traffic and it is a huge feat to get to 24 hours. Per my estimate the best one could do - short of a dedicated closed road free ride - is in the 24 hour+ range. Below 24 hours I personally believe you get really close to the limits of what a tire can withstand in terms of sustained heat. Taking everything else off the table - traffic, fuels, mechanical, etc - the tire become the limit at 24 hours which I do not believe can be overcome. Add back the traffic, mechanical, etc and 24 hours is the floor. Would love to be wrong, but cannot see how any production tire would survive the full 2,800 miles.

If true... and it may well be ...it's impressive. Very impressive. In 1967 driving a 67 427 435 hp Vette with a 3.36 rear end I went from Steamboat Springs Colo to Menlo Park Calif in 8 hrs 20 minutes. There was quite a bit of mountain driving and at high speed the Vette got MAYBE around 8mpg. With a 20 gal tank there were as I recall around 6 fuel stops. Top end on the Vette was right around 153mph with the 3.36 gear. I did outrun a Utah patrolman around 40 miles from the Nevada border and make it into Nevada .The car was on the original supposedly premium factory red line tires. Which weren't much of a tire. Anyway I regarded that as pretty fast at that time. Years later driving a Porsche 928 in 1983 I went from Las Vegas to Los Angeles in 2 hrs 15 minutes. I came in the back way thru the desert . Both times I recall being wrung out at the end of the drive. The combination of driving the car in triple digits and watching for police produces a fair amount of tension. I find 25 to 26 hours solo at triple digits monumental for a solo driver. He's right about wearing the tires out at sustained high speed . On the Steamboat to Menlo run I started with about 3000 miles on the factory tires. The morning after my arrival I noticed all 4 tires were nearly bald and had to be immediately replaced. Of c ourselves now cars are enormously more capable as witness a midrange rental Mustang with a 159mph top end. And superior braking handling and modern Z rated radial tires. This guy's planning and prep was pretty impressive. .I especially liked his choice of a relatively pedestrian white car. For some reason white cars going fast don't attract nearly as much unfavorable attention as red orange yellow or black cars. And a whie 4 door sedan is best of all in 2006 I had a white E55 with Renntech mods. The car was fast. I could and did regularly cruise at around 90 mph on the way to Las Vegas and after hitting the Nevada state libe increase to 140. Did this multiple times. Never got stopped. By contrast in the mid 80s I had a red Ferrari Testarossa. Got a ticket outside of Palm S I rings for 58mph in a 55 zone. Cops are basically big game hunters at heart. They absolutely LOVE tagging a bright colored red high performance car. White sedans.... nah.

11:59 center wear is caused by high pressure and temp as a result of sustained high speed. Starting with reduced pressures would help. In my spec Miata the tires start the race at roughly 28psi unless weather or track conditions call for a different strategy. After a 25 minute race the tires go from 28psi to 36 and sometimes upwards of 40psi if the car is overdriven.

@El_Chompo4 жыл бұрын
@@kimosabbe50 I was thinking of mentioning that too lol but that actually would require it's own entire video about the downfall of the fade in American society. Fades don't exist anymore. Everybody sees those pictures of WW2 guys with those awesome haircuts and they think I want that and rightly so because those haircuts are awesome. The thing is though you have to be able to fade to get a cut like that, and apparently from what I've read it requires a razor to do properly and nowadays normal hair cutters aren't allowed to fade with a razor or something? Either way, it doesn't happen anymore. Now they just use the buzzers at one setting all the way up, and then cut the hair on top with scissors with zero attempt at fading in between and it makes it look like either you want attention or just bad compared to those old awesome fade cuts. It's a plague in modern society just like wearing suits that are too tight and pull with a giant X shape on the chest to the button. I get it it's the style of the time but guess what, wearing clothes that fit you properly will always override the "style of the time".

@@El_Chompo some people just don't have great barbers. A good barber knows how to a fade, its a common technique taught at every barberschool. Also, not every fade is a skin fade and requires the use of a razer, or foil shaver.

Can totally understand how the refinement of a very modern car like the current Mustang would make a solo trip much more bearable. Fred made a very good decision taking this on in a 5.0 automatic Mustang (I guess they don't make them in a manual config these days). A five year old German sedan like an E55, BMW M5 or an Audi RS6 Wagon could be better but only marginally. Fred nailed it. That is a great record.

I know this is unrelated, but my best 1000 mile solo run was Des Moines Iowa to Gulf Port Mississippi. My time was 9:54 in an 91 CRX HF but with a Z1 head and Y8 manifold, header, exhaust, intake, chipped and tuned PS9 obd0 ecu with one wire vtec. at full tilt with a dx trans i topped out at 140-150ish speedo not great. it had HX wheels on nittos. gsr front breaks and sway bars and a ton of rust. this was back in 08 when i was returning back to post at Keesler AFB. I averaged 35-40 miles per gal. So 37 times 11 gal 407 miles per tank plus another civic tank in the back to feed the primary so 814 total mile range. Fun times will do again. PS. only one short stop for 5 gals to finish. Cost to do this 1k car gas and mods. the sold the car for 5500 a week later.

That's the one thing that freaks me out when ripping around in my car. Things just happen a lot quicker than they normally would at regular speed limits and people aren't expecting vehicles driving 100+ miles an hour so when they look to get over your pretty far back there but when they actually do get over your on their ass or hit them so it's not me worried about screwing up Driving fast, it's someone else not anticipating high speed vehicles and them screwing up which in turn causes me to wreck. I've always wanted a street bike as well but I'm always worried someone's going to kill me out there. There's a lottttttt of idiots out there on the roads I just can't trust other people.

I've done a bunch of long distance sailboat racing solo where you often push yourself beyond 24 hours straight. My biggest issue at 300 am after being awake for 24 hours was hallucinations. It's really freaky when it happens and you have to constantly talk yourself back to focusing on what's real and what isn't. How did he avoid hallucinating?

Great Story & I can relate ....over here in South Africa the longest continuous trip I did alone was 20hrs straight...refueling times were my only chance to stretch legs, although I did at some stages swopped feet just to give my gas foot some rest....driving cross legged...hahaha! Longest I've ever been on a trip with no stopping except for fuel was me n my dad doing a 29hr35min trip one way...28hr back to go fetch my 61 Chevy Impala..... thats draining, but was worth it...hahaha

@@blue_lancer_es Drag is a function of both Cd and frontal area and directly proportional to both factors. A low drag coefficient helps, but that frontal area will get you every time. You'd have a lower top speed and much lower MPG at that speed in the van.
