Former Enterprise employee checking in: him tearing apart a rental to do this and put it back together and have the Rental counter clerk not notice is 1000000% possible. These cars are checked in so fast that if you are not a car enthusiast (like myself) and not conditioned to check EVERY little nick and scratch, they never would've known anything unorthodox had occured with the vehicle. Not to mention, these cars are beat to shit for 40k miles and then sold to Gen Pop. Not saying I believe the guy with no gps tracking or video, but him getting away with what he did to a rental? 1000% believable.

@@jonasvalero4940 This is such a wives tale. Your personal insurance policy covers your liability of what you hit but not what you hit it with. Your full coverage of your personal vehicle doesn't even roll over to the other cars you own... let alone a rental. Sure, you're covered to your limits for liability of what you damage but you're responsible for the rental (and anything above your limits). I can promise you this having been licensed in property and casualty insurance. Get the insurance from the rental company every time.

@@jonasvalero4940 Cool story. Some companies do. But, for every one of those, there are myriad others who aren't so fortunate. It probably wasn't worth the litigation fees for them after a cost benefit analysis. If you're with a big box brand, there may have been an agreement between those particular entities as well. Consider this: why would you ever get full coverage on multiple vehicles that you _do_ own if you were magically covered for every car you drive. Liability coverage follows you, full coverage doesn't. Rentals are not as cut and dry as you're making them out to be. Everyone should verify with their agent what is covered with rentals before making a gamble like that. Quit pretending you know an industry because you were a customer once that got lucky and didn't get banged by an indemnity or rental company. Most people do... and dry as ya mama while they do too.

What surprises me is now a days most rental vehicles have GPS trackers, if the car starts going well over the speed limit usually the police are called by the rental company just in case the car is being stolen and taken to a chop shop. Its surprising that he didnt have any trouble with the rental company.
@PilotJetProductions4 жыл бұрын
lxlPhantomlxl I worked for a rental car company (a big one) a few years ago and this was absolutely not the case. The people running the place were not car people, actually far from it. They didn’t care where the car had been or what it had done. You might possibly be thinking of an exotic rental car company, they take more serious measures (via GPS and G meters) to make sure their cars aren’t being used on a track. Just from your average airport rental company however, they don’t care one bit what you do with the car as long as it doesn’t return with significant damage
@Salvaba4 жыл бұрын
@vinwiki @edbolian could we get a video on this? These are some fair points and could make for an interesting story
@PilotJetProductions4 жыл бұрын
lxlPhantomlxl on top of that, I once drove a Dodge Charger that had an alignment issue from one store to another because they had somebody who wanted to rent it. As I got to my destination I informed the manager that the car would need to be aligned. They brought it to the local chain alignment shop and informed the manager that the car had a bent subframe from somebody “most likely jumping it”. They just said “oh well” and moved on. You could get away with murder on those rentals as long as it looked pretty clean when you returned it
@lxlphantomlxl36004 жыл бұрын
@@PilotJetProductions Hm, that's interesting. Maybe it just depends on the rental company. I only mentioned it because I know someone who works for a smaller family owned rental company and they track their cars. I don't know if it's because of prior issues with theft or to simply protect their assets. I guess larger companies have so much money they dont really worry about a car being stolen or anything like that. Plus they probably have really good insurence that will just pay for them to get a new one. I could be wrong but who knows. Either way the idea of doing this with a rental car is just insane to me. Not just using a rental car to drive high speeds coast to coast but at the same time stripping the insides and adding extra tanks? I'm sure if the company sees this video they would be like WTF? Is this what people do with rentals now a days 😂

On a gopro, recording at lowest resolution with a 1 tb card could get you over 30 hours. Same thing with a dash cam, they're programmed to record 3,5 or 10 minute sections, and they will save all those videos until they run out of storage, and then they start overwriting the oldest ones with the new videos. A cheap dash cam with a 512 tb card could easily store over 40 hours of footage provided the graphics were on the lowest possible setting (I believe 720 or so)

He could have just taken a video with the date and time at the start and at the finish. Or had a GPS or a camera.
@ShawnGBR10 ай бұрын
The bit where he says you can't maintain a GoPro - that's where I smell bull. A person can get the camera set up for Timelapse the day before. You check to see that's working by putting the camera on a shelf or suctioned to a window or mirror of the glass of a framed picture pointed at you and the TV, record yourself watching TV for an hour so it's clear this is not normal speed video, stop the camera, and see how long the video recorded for to confirm your settings. Or point it at a clock during the day where the sun's light in the room will shift position. In fact, hold up a sign at the start of the test video that says TEST TIMELAPSE. You want to prove you're telling the truth here so this really basic first step is a must and it calibrates that camera. When it's time to get moving you'll know it's recording because the red LED continues to blink the whole time. If the GoPro is mounted to the windshield, that takes the moment after you press the shutter button and see the flashing LED. Someone did an EV Cannonball Run in under 46 hours (you can't carry a few MegawattHours of batteries to eliminate charging stops for the car) and here's the Timelapse footage - kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4TaiX6MmKmfopo - you see the scenery change outside the car and they have a map open on a screen (a cellphone running Google Maps or Apple Maps gives the same result) to absolutely prove their run. They took 2,716 minutes for their run (45 hours and 16 minutes) and around 1,080 seconds of the video is the Timelapse part at 1080p from setting off at Red Ball to almost arriving at Portofino Hotel (with less than a minute of normal speed video at the end in Redondo Beach getting to the finish) which means each second of Timelapse video is 2.5 minutes (150 seconds) of real time at 30 frames per second. If they had used the actual Timewarp setting on a GoPro they wouldn't be able to shoot at 150x slow speed (the transition between Timelapse and regular speed camera with sound shows they actually shot 46+ hours of continual video and used software to speed up the bulk of it) but there are other easy options to shoot 150x Timelapse video if that's the plan. There's an app for the iPhone called NightCap Camera that can do a video at up to 1,800x slower speed, where a single second of video is 30 minutes of real time - the option is on a slider and 150x slower is one of those options. Android has a host of Timelapse apps too. As long as the phone is mounted and is plugged into one of the USB ports so it has power, it'll film the whole run. And just like the GoPro option, you start recording and make sure it's plugged in / mounted / still recording before leaving Red Ball. And there are even easier ways that don't need a Timelapse video. There are time-stamp apps that record video with the current date and time (to the second) on the image / video. You can even have a map that shows your current position on screen too, updating in real time. All he had to do at moments when he was stuck in slower traffic is record a few seconds of video. "Here I am on I-80, 75 degrees and 38 minutes West according to this app, going through eastern Pennsylvania slowly because this truck is slowly overtaking that truck..." and the screen shows latitude and longitude with the date and time ticking on in one corner, and a map set to 75% opacity showing his blue circle heading west on I-80 in another corner. When it's THIS easy nowadays, especially when you're claiming a world record, that's when it becomes unbelievable.
