Good evening Harris. I was looking forward to your next video. Bang. The perfect intro to my Saturday evening VC video viewing. First off. Its crazy that you held up Green when you were talking about Kurt's 50 Favorite Albums. I was just spinning Green a few days ago. I would not put it in my top fifty favorite albums. But I do like it a lot. I remember him choosing Aerosmith's 'Rocks'. I can see why he choose it. I only saw Nirvana live once. It was at a local alternative radio station WFNX's eight birthday party. My co-worker sang in a band called Bullet LaVolta. They were the first on the bill that evening. Smashing Pumpkins went on before Nirvana. Kurt wasted no time going in the crowd. After the third or fourth song he stage dived into the packed full house crowd at Axis in Boston. Didn't he also choose The Shaggs album as one of his faves? Hmm... Con't Rob/Boston

Great video, Cobain also loved the Raincoats. I have heard that some of Hendrix’s records are in the museum flat around your way. I one time got to see sone of Jackson Pollocks records. It is an interesting experience to be around someones guitar, books or records. A lot of soul and personality with in them.

Hey Shaun, yes I used to pore over that Cobain Top 50. Clearly liked the artier side of Hardcore. Loved the Buttholes. His list switched me onto Saccharine Trust & ‘Gone Fishin’ by Flipper, which I’ve always loved.

Missed this video until just now. 😴 I love 'Green', and saw them on that tour. They were fantastic. But I gave my vinyl copy away to my brother and held on to the CD instead. Bloody fool that I am. You should chase down the vinyl version of 'Sketches For My Sweetheart'. Listening to it now - it's amazing. I'd love 'VU' on vinyl. Fine album - 'Temptation Inside Your Heart' is brilliant. Oh, and early Bee Gees and even ABBA too. Awesome. 👏 And 'Surf's Up' is my fave too.

You’ve hit on something here. We do love hearing what musicians like listening to. Jimi Hendrix’s choices were interesting. I do remember Shipbuilding cropping up again and again in Rebellious Jukebox along with the perennial Velvet Underground. Very entertaining!
@Harrispilton22

Thanks! Tbh, I wished i’d planned this a bit more, but I thought it would be better to choose more household names, rather than the favourite records of Stephen Pastel! I’ve been Googling those Rebellious Jukebox articles & it’s fascinating pre-Internet/streaming how safe people’s choices now appear. Odyssey & Oracle appears to have been quite an exotic record back in 93..which it possibly was I guess? Big Star,Stooges..almost household names now, but everyone was picking them as oddball choices back then!
@baggyhi-fi8628

There are certain vintage records which only seemed to have been rediscovered and name checked in the 90s or later. Odyssey and Oracle is one and so is Bee Gees 1st.

Always enjoy your videos! As a teen i would discover bands by reading about bands i already liked. While reading a Duran Duran interview they listed bands that inspired them. Hello! The Raincots is a strange one. Quite shambolic the band literally couldn’t play their instruments until deciding to form a band. Very interesting Kurt Cobain was obsessed by them too. If your not familiar with Husker Du the album ‘Flip Your Wig’ is a good starting point. A real mixture of distorted guitars and almost Beatles like melodies. Zen Arcade is their more Hardcore album...but if you like hardcore punk that’s good as well! Try the song ‘Pink Turns To Blue’ it’s fantastically catchy!

Comment Two of Two: Ah yes. Sparks 'KMH'. Stoked that you choose Morrissey as one of your favorite artists. The Chairman Of Chuckles. Brilliant Harris. Just brilliant. I am still a little bit confused about the two completed and ready for release albums Bonfire of Teenagers and Without Music The World Dies. I cannot believe that there is not one label that is willing to backup The Divine Mr. M. I appreciate you talking about the popularity of the VU in England and among some of the British artists. I cannot say the same for this country. It seemed like they were not talked about music here and were never played on terrestrial radio in the seventies, eighties and nineties. >< I thought that the Dave Grohl comment was hilarious. As a fellow music geek I would have reacted the same way that you did Harris. I was laughing when you counted the number of discs in Zen Arcade. I should have taken out my copy and counted them with you. {smile} Yes. There are only two. There has never been three as far as I know. Do you think that his quote was a typo? This was an informative smile from the 00:01 to 17:47. I enjoyed it thoroughly. One of your finest HP~ Rob/Boston

Hi Rob, what a lovely response. The Morrissey situation is odd, but must be music business politics, as he has a hardcore set of fans that will always guarantee healthy sales. The songs I’ve heard on KZbin are some of his strongest for years. Yes I suspect the Dave Grohl quote is a misprint! I was actually thinking of you when I did this as there is a great photo of Robert Plant in the mid eighties with records all around him including The Replacements ‘Let It Be’ and an album by Fishbone. His favourite eighties album was ‘We Care A Lot’ by Faith No More! I used to love that song. Thanks as ever Rob, hope all is well..still raining sideways here! 😂

He Simon, thanks for watching! Just checked out your ten. I don’t always engage with the classics so Believe it or not I’ve tried with Dylan frequently & Ive given up now..I started checking out Santana this year (I seem to be able to find all their albums still for a fiver..& love it.lIve bought the first four & think they are fantastic.I showed Robert Wyatt in this vid, do you know his album ‘Rock Bottom’?sort of electronic, jazzy and quite progressive, If you don’t know it try the track ‘Sea Song’ it’s fantastic.

Hello there mate.....mike vinyl spiral showed that Raincoats LP in one of his videos and he bigged it up,so i thought I'd give it a listen. Quite a different almost weird sounding record,kind of reminded me of The Creatures/Banshees ??? Not what i was expecting and probably one I'd have to listen to a few times to make sense of it all 🤔🤔🤔

Hi Nick, yeah it’s a difficult album, but I was thinking Banshees...if they were just learning their instruments! Funnily enough it was on Kurt Cobains list too. My Bowie impersonation is just the same, think flight of the conchords song 'Bowie's in space'. Harris I hear your cry for help & I'm here for you brother. I feel Ian McCulloch even though I'm sure he loves all of those records, that his photo is incredibly staged. Those perfect records that display the ultimate in cred & taste, just happened to be lying around when the photographer turned up 😂The chairman of chuckles 🤣I am on a quest to own every Sparks studio album (5 to go) and The Fall's studio albums (3 to go).That VU record is brilliant. John Lydon has some great fav records. As if I couldn't dig Bowie any more and he picks LKJ. So very cool! Of course Hendrix would have Little Richard. He played with him and got kicked out, because Little Richard said that only himself could be the pretty one in his band 😂 Harris oh Harris how I hate Abba. I feel like I'm the only one in the VC. Surely anyone who grew up in Australia at that time would agree with me that it's syrupy Eurovision cheese. Brian Wilson, that's how far ahead of us he is. He picks Beach Boy albums where he took a back seat & Carl took over the reigns. Sly Stone, yep I've always associated Eno with being a total funkmeister. Why does it not surprise me that Prince only really listens to his own stuff. Well he has a point. They're not bad records. Nice stuff mate. Cheers...Ben

Ha, ha I’m not that keen on ABBA tbh!..just the greatest hits! Many of which appear to have accrued in my collection. Yeah I guessed that photo was staged, ind you I used to do the same whenever a girl came round, move the cool Miles Davis to the front..try & look intellectual! There’s a lot of Fall albums!, I think they are reissue a few of the nineties ones soon, that was a good period for the band, so may pick up one of those. Yeah I loved those Brian Wilson picks, pretty unexpected, both my favourites of the middle period bar ‘Surfs Up’. Yeah Lydon was really into his dance too, cut great tracks with Bambaata & Leftfield. I forgot Hendrix played with Little Richard. Cheers Ben, just finished watching another awesome day of Ashes cricket...unfortunately rain is set in for the next 4 days!

I read somewhere that Prince didn’t like listening to music styles that he felt he fully understood and had mastered himself, instead he preferred people to play him records by artists he didn’t understand. Apparently one of his favourite artists in this realm was the Cocteau twins.

Lemmy was a Nazi!! Should I smash my Little Richard records up now? Oddly I do have one on 78, I kept it as it is so 'symbolic' of the emergence of pop-soul music. Plus for some reason I find his 'crazy' voice oddly appealing at times. He does seem to embody the hedonism of the phenomenon. Beach Boys works well at 5.30am, when I'm usually fast asleep. Eno didn't pick 10 Gospel 45's isn't that pretty much all he listens to? Odd Prince, whose muzak I loathe, listened to such a gorgeous Lp as Mitchell's potentially finest moment. Good idea for a video Harris, you growing a beard, to look like a real man?
@Harrispilton22
@Harrispilton22 Жыл бұрын
I heard Lemmy just liked the designs! I imagine Eno’s list is in a constant state of flux, he’s one of those hipsters. Wow that’s two albums in two videos where I’ve shown an album you like Mike? Must look to address this. I used the IPad facial hair app in this video just as an experiment. Looks like it’s worked. I’m using the app that guarantees ‘Contour shifting hillocks’ next. That should guarantee me a subscriber surge.

@@Harrispilton22 He liked prancing around in SS uniforms, I assume he was a psychopath. You might get a 'surge' if you did these naked, albeit a niche appeal, if you do contour your bullocks first. As to Ponce, I'm often puzzled why people who make muzak without any obvious or discernible value claim to have found this in sounds that appears to contain some. I'm no expert on Eno's favourites, but he has claimed he mainly listens to 'black' gospel songs. Which at the risk of annoying a few opera buffs might be the zenith of sound, or some are.
