M M was a riot, whether he meant to be or not. he had a near 24/7 squint that was all his own, I think. I'm getting up there in age, and a quote by him in the re-make of 'the Getaway' always sticks w/ me. one of the Tilly girls was coming on to him, saying "we can be friends". MM: "it's been my experience that having friends is overated." and she comes off as a true bombshell in this scene. 'cause she is, and she can act. that line, I don't think is in the original. only saw it 100 times, I'd say.

i think Al appreciated and liked that Michael somewhat stood his ground meeting him and felt that "okay i like this guy" and told the producers or whoever that he wanted Michael in the movie which was a brilliant move because Michael is fantastic in the film

He reminds me of Kurt Russell in the sense that while they both certainly take their craft serious, they also don't take it TOO serious. They don't mind being goofy if that's what the character calls for. They both show that in 'The Hateful Eight.'

@@ohadavni Madsen wasn't "brilliant", he was the same as he always is. He's a solid actor who always plays a type. Love him, but you don't hire Madsen to craft a character, you hire him to be Madsen. Contrast that with 90s Depp did Ed Wood, Donnie Brasco, Fear And Loathing, those are all very different characters. I'm an Italian-American New Yorker, I was around during the 70s, Depp aced that part. Certainly better than Michael Madsen ever would have!

Madsen is harsh on Johnny, his performance was fine. Its Al Pacino's best performance imo. If you watch Michael Franzese podcast he rates Pacino's performance as one of the best depictions of a made guy in a movie.

I was an extra in his film _Strength and Honor_ . One of the fight scenes was filmed in the old Ford factory in Cork City, Ireland. There were hundreds of extras. As I stood there, himself appeared alongside me and in his distinctive voice he asked "How are you doing guys?". Fond memories.

I understand what Michael is saying, I noticed that with a few actors that are like that. Where they play over the top characters but when they end up playing "normal" characters, there's nothing there. They're lifeless.

I can’t say I blame Depp for not talking to Madsen. Him and a bunch of mobsters pushed and locked him in a room with a mechanical rat to send him a message. That’s insane. This is before they started filming. I feel like Madsen may have also been drinking a lot during those times and was not a particularly nice guy
