I think Isn’t Anything gets a bit more love in the U.K. than Canada/America. It made them moderately big over here, made more surprising as up to that album they literally were considered a joke band in the U.K., so when they came out with ‘You Made Me Realise’ I remeber thinking..’Ok..didn’t see that come’. Still the greatest 12” single ever imo! 😊

Seedy Films, Secret Life, Tainted Love, etc... One heck of a highly enjoyable record. >< Chelsea Girl is a record that you really have to listen to a few times. Nico was one of the artists kind of like Maryann Faithful, Patti Smith or Amy Winehouse that I appreciated more and more the more I listened. But that debut was 1967. Crazy. So ahead of its time in the originality department. >

Yes I’m not the worlds biggest Zeppelin fan, but I’ve come to enjoy them more. ‘Over The Hills & Far Away’ set me off on a bit of a journey, & that album is terrific, And I’m starting to enjoy the second now. Now people are telling me the debut is better than the second, so I’m going to have to find a copy of that! Yes Nico was an incredible talent. Her debut single ‘I’m Not Saying’ would Definitely be in my list of greatest songs ever. I think Morrissey & Marr were fans of that tune. All their songs and albums, especially their album Doolittle back in 1989. It contained the song Debaser. Marc Almond is good. I like alot of the British bands in the 1980s, such as Heaven 17 , the Associates, Yazoo , Fine Young Cannibals, ABC. I loved Punk when it happened, the Sex Pistols blew my mind in 1977. Hi Steve.‘Isn’t Anything’ got a lot of traction in the weeklies. It’s very much a mix of Dinasuar Jr meets Jesus & Mary Chain, meets Husker Du.. The most melodic songs are ‘Cupid Come’ ‘Sueisfine’ ‘When You Wake You’re Still In A Dream’ , then you have the beginnings of Shoegaze with ‘Lose My Breath’ & ‘No More Sorry’ The opener ‘Soft As Snow’ is a bit of an outlier, but imagine Public Enemy deciding to write a shoegaze tune. I think you’d like the album. It was a bit of a game changer in the U.K.

I’ve been on forums about this, & I think it’s a view you see more in the U.K. ‘Isn’t Anything’ got pretty big in the U.K. ,hence why the next two EP’s actually went top 40 over here before Loveless was released.Most people still love Loveless, but certainly amongst my group ‘Isn’t Anything’ tend to edge it. In America/Canada it tends to be Loveless all the way!

Appreciate your honesty and steering clear of those dreaded Q / monthly magazine 'classic' album lists. Bangles I'll give you that though i don't have it. I grew up with different light so had that one. Jane's addiction sorry Ritual Lo but i gave away (we are both too generous for the 21st century). Mahavishnu i don't know but will try. I've the other one by then i forget the name. MBV i used to call 'tuneless' rather than loveless but i dunno i wasn't into them anyway. I'm considering a response to Dale's sort of thread, he's ruffled a few feathers which is a good thing and he's dry enough that he gets away with it which i appreciate.

Hi Martyn, I thought this was a bit monthly magazine compared to my normal lists, so that’s interesting! Yes as I told you I gave loads of 90’s pressing away 20 years ago, literally worthless then.. most now £100.00 plus each! Oh well , I never regret it.I’m not sure that Mahavishnu will be up your street, it can go a bit twiddly, but some of the slower songs are lovely,& the guitar & drums are pretty extroaidinary. Speak to you soon Martin.Declan Rice on the way! Boom!

I have a 4 CD box set of them & am a legitimate fan but For Your Pleasure is the only Roxy Music album I own. Black Celebration is the only Depeche Mode I own ( & quite like ) ..the new one sounds really good though 🤔. Tom Petty .. You're Gonna Get It is brilliant ..others ones are flawed have moments. Loveless is Overrated.

Hi David, Roxys a great one , but although there’s none I completely love, I do dig out 3 of the first 4 occasionally & I have a soft spot for Avalon. Tom Petty is a really good call, & one I might have considered. I like three Depeche Mode albums ‘Masses, Celebration’ & Violator is an classic for me, the Gothic little brother of New Orders ‘Technique’. Thanks David, actually looking forward to the FA Cup today, Manchester City treble?

I don't like Nick Drake either, so overrated
@Harrispilton22 Жыл бұрын
Yes! I’m not sure why I dont. I remeber first hearing him back in 92 when he was getting a bit of a revival..his voice..& tunes left me cold. I do wonder if his death distorted people’s opinion of him slightly. Sort of a Sylvia Plath syndrome, Maybye I’m being unkind.

@@Harrispilton22 Yeah there's something about the posthumous fame thing especially when the artists work contained sadness and depression. I just don't hear anything special about Nick Drake, find his music pretty boring actually, sounds like a sad Jack Johnson
