Love the White Witch stuff. The vocals aren't for everyone, but Ron Goedert was a master of voices. The tracks on this 2nd LP, 'Crystalize & Realize' & 'Walk On', almost sound like a different singer. There was almost a third WW LP, but most of those ideas found their way onto Ron Goedert's lone solo LP. Breaking All The Rules. Great episode!

Music Machine wete a great garage band known for the hit "Talk Talk". Sean Bonniwell was the singer and Keith Olson (popular producer) played bass. Had the album back in 1966 and now have the cd.

Good stuff man!! On a Steely Dan kick today after enjoying your review of the inner sleeve of Aja! Gandalf I got around 20 years back for 300 bucks. Wrote Peter Sando who was the guitarist in the band who still plays acoustic sets today. Saw a video recently where he said the band broke up the year before that album came out. I need to still get a copy of the Music Machine. Also love your impression of the sound on Easter Everywhere from a previous video. Reminds me of my Dad years back doing his version of turkey gobble. Glad you found some good stuff!!!

Nice haul! I saw Leon Redbone live in the '90s at a small theater here in Raleigh. It was just him, a trumpet player, and a clarinet player. But man, they tore it up. Got to chat with him for a few minutes after the show, too. Such fun.

In the booklet for the Sundazed reissue of Gandalf, they said that the distortion on the vocals is because they could not recreate the reverb effect the singer got from the band's PA in the studio, so they miked it.

Robert, I love everything you put out, but I have to wonder how the man who went so far as to clone himself so you two could discuss things like Beatles vs Stones… has the most abrupt endings to his videos sometimes! Throw a transition wipe on there!! 😂 Sounds like a great show, and thank you so much for your wonderful videos!!

You raise an interesting question. At one time, I had about 3k pieces, and I sold off the last of it about 15 years ago. I recently got bit by the bug again, and am shocked at the state of record prices today. I agree, I am not ever shelling out hundreds of dollars for a record again (RIP my first marriage), but the question is: what's your top end for any record? I've already hit $60+ after shipping, but I'm trying to stick under $30. What's your "fold" price? (this is for everyone, not just Robert)

I went back to check my reissue copy of Gandalf and I'm pleased to say it's not warped, and I really don't notice an issue with sibilance. I've been to book fairs, but never a record show. Perhaps one day.
@RobertFithen Жыл бұрын
The sibilance was on the Music Machine record. I found out there are actually two different reissues of the Gandalf album. There was also an "unofficial" one that has the usual Capitol text on the top seam.
@calvinwazoo Жыл бұрын
Oh, I goofed on sibilance. I might have unofficial one, the cover art has a white bar across the top.
@RobertFithen Жыл бұрын
If it's all white with no text, it's the same one I have which is the official one.

Don't know if you know, first pressing's of that Leon Russell album had a Bob Dylan song, but no Beatle songs on it
@RobertFithen Жыл бұрын
I think mine is a third pressing from 1970. No "Old Masters" track and the logo has been moved to the top of the label, but not crossed out.
@careyatchison1348 Жыл бұрын
I'm listening to my 1966 mono Music Machine Turns On and don't detect noticeable sibilance. That was a problem on a reissue of an Easybeats album I bought. Maybe remastering analogue is an occupation that not a lot are good at nowadays. [BTW the Asylum Choir's first album with Leon Russell is a riot and can usually be found for cheap!]
@jamesshort8385 Жыл бұрын
My 66 mono MM lp doesn't have any sibilants either. Might be a stereo issue.

Gandolf looks like something that would be in the dollar bin at the store downtown, because its not Beatles or Stones or anything that will sell. Still waiting to find another $100 album in those 64 milk crates. Last one was oddly a Roger Waters promo. How that got in there. Who knows, but i snagged it anyways. That stores been like that for years. Ive snagged so much insane stuff out of their dollar bins since they opened in the late 80s. Got quite nuts right before grunge hit, because you will only find Green Day and Offsprings first albums in the dollar bin. Once again, its not Pink Floyd or Iron Maiden or Slayer. No one will ever buy those Operation Ivy or Nirvana albums.
