I love how it's disco, it's KISS, it's punk, it's new wave and it's not convincing at any of them.

You really gonna gloss over the fact that "Food Fight" is one of the greatest fake punk songs ever written?

@archersguild , LOL, I guess I am. :) You are right, that is a great fake punk songs and that is the direction the band should have gone.

I think that with the right guidance and songwriting, they could have truly embraced new wave and carried their camp aesthetics forward, using the same theatrics as The Tubes and D E V O. Regardless how you feel about disco, The Village People had solid vocals, and they could have carried their music forward if they just had the right resources to help them evolve with the times.

Well said. Love them or not, what they did, they did very well. Thanks for viewing and leaving a comment.

I'm glad you like the record. Really, it's not as bad as some critics make it out to be.

It is literally my favorite album and I went out of my way to buy it because the songs slap so hard

Five 0 Clock In The Morning. Underrated song. One of my all time favorites from them.

I have to say, in making this video and listing to that song for a bazillion times, it did grow on me a bit. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Well, they had a few good songs, and the versions on the LIVE AND SLEAZY lp are an improvement on some of the studio tracks (most notably MACHO MAN).

I have it on cd as well on vinyl, I don't remember when or where I found it on vinyl though. Maybe played it a couple of times. Prefer the older Village People so maybe that's why it was such a disappointment. The album from 1982 was better but I think the last album from 1985 is the best songs nce their 70s output.

You have this album on CD. That is very impressive. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

@@vinylsigns6891 According to discogs it's been re-released on cd a few times since the end of the 90s. My copy is from 2002 on Traffic Trading. As most of the others with a different cover that isn't as bad as the original cover.

I have known Randy Jones, "The Cowboy" from the VP since around 2000 when I was 19 (I'm straight befire the question is asked) and am pretty sure he wasnt around for this go around. Never even heard of this album before and yeah, it really isnt even bad. Like you said it has that melange of New Wave/Romantic and (poorly) attempted punk that make it fun. Outside of the awful beard tux, the two side profiles on the front arent any worse than Human League or any of that era stuff. Compared to the flaming war crime that was "Cant Stop the Music" this is a masterpiece
@vinylsigns6891 Жыл бұрын
"Flaming war crime" is a great phrase. If you see Mr. Jones please tell him hello from Vinyl Signs! He'll have no idea what or who Vinyl Signs is, but hopefully he'll appreciate the sentiment. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@Vinyl Signs I will tell him, seeing him next week at this guy Noel Ashmans birthday. I stopped going out a ton when I hit 28, Randy is probably pushing 70 and still heads out with his nephew, Keith several times a week. Really fun guy, you should reach out to him, he loves talking and would do an album review with you. I suggest "Cant Stop the Music" lol. Amazing how late to the game Hollywood was with The Apple, Xanadu, Can't Stop the Music and about 10 other early 80s films. Disco was already dying in 77 before Saturnight Fever, the soundtrack and great movie added maybe a year of legs. But by 1980 nobody wanted to see anything disco

@@thegadflygang5381 Thanks for posting and the suggestion. Randy sounds like a real cool guy. Wow, you know The Apple! I was introduced to The Apple via RiffTrax. You're the first person I know to have ever mentioned it. Great stuff! Thanks again,
