One of those bands where every member was a visionary talent.

also, if you want to suggest "The Birthday Party" to someone, I think the most accessible song to start with is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4Wuco1oeM-hqac

Rowland S Howard wrote « Shivers » Nice review :)

Haha I was going to say the same thing ~ Rowland S. Howard wrote 'Shivers'. Your knowledge is great on this band otherwise in the interview. The Birthday Party is also one of my favorites ~ Cheers

Yeah, I made a misstake. Since I'm blindfolded and have no idea what I'll talk about when we start recording I make some misstatements from time to time. Rowland S. Howard is great and I feel dumb by not giving him the credit for Shivers. Thanks for the correction!

If you can say at least half as much about each of album in your collection (which I believe has pretty much wide range and involves alot of genres), then you sure have an encyclopedia in your head! What a versatility, what a passion. Mindblowing. 👍 That whole Nick Cave thing/TBP/earlyTBS was like an epiphany to me, to say so in a nutshell.

The Birthday Party are fucking amazing. I caught onto them relatively late, after discovering Nick Cave. I get so much more out of The Birthday Party than The Bad Seeds.

Me too. I enjoy the Birthday Party completely, but some Bad Seeds records leave me cold.

Junkyard has been one of my favorite records for years, just recently got into mutiny/the bad seed and yeah, I probably like it even more. Funny thing is I fucking hated the birthday party upon first hearing them when I was like 16, they went right over my head. It took a few years but yeah they're incredible. If u haven't be sure to check out Rowland Howard's solo albums Teenage Snuff Film and Pop Crimes as well as his work with These Immortal Souls and also a really challenging and kinda depressing album he did with the guy from the Swell Maps, his name escapes me atm. Rowland's influence in the birthday party though subtle definitely can't be underestimated.

I agree with everything Cesar says here. I bought Prayers on Fire in 1981 after glowing recommendations from the good fanzines of the era (notably TKA of The Offense in Columbus, Ohio). It ruined a lot of weaker music for me. I sold my OMD and Cure records (although I later re-learned to enjoy some of their songs). This band was THE WILDEST ever, full of fury and frightening intensity.

I am pretty sure Roland wrote Shivers.

They call that combination of drum and bass "The rhythm section". Just sayin.
