Welcome and thank you for watching exterior and interior painting specialists. In today's video we discuss the proper technique when spray painting vinyl siding. When our men do a job they use a piece of cardboard to ensure extra paint does not go where it isn't intended and keeps lines straight. You should always keep the sprayer about 2 feet away from the signing so too much paint doesn't go on too thick and run down the siding.

with resilience Sherwin Williams paint, most colors are ok... only challenge would be if you went with something bright like cub blue, are bright orange... those cannot be made with the tint needed for vinyl siding....

Great work! I was just cringing when he was moving quickly and freely upon the roof, amongst the sprayer hose down around his feet...without being harnessed or anything. I didn't like that at all but I understand the painters have to move quickly. Still though 😳😟💗

Did you clean the vinyl before painting? I have a tall house with the ugliest yellow siding in Central PA that I need to paint. Not good with heights but I think I could manage is using a sprayer instead of trying to roll it.

I was under the impression you weren't supposed to go with a darker shade for vinyl siding, as it will absorb more heat from the sun, and potentially warp. Is going from white to green a risk here?

Milton Georges great question... According to Sherwin Williams what matters most is that the paint be vinyl friendly. In other words some Tint that's put in paint does not Flex enough for how much vinyl flexes. When choosing paint for vinyl at Sherwin just let them know and I'll use you correct product

We always spray 2 coats... We don't back roll, because that well leave stipple texture, one of the reasons we spray is to leave smooth finish....

.....and if anyone tells you any different, you DO need to back roll for porous substrates, like WOOD siding, to "push" the paint into the grooves and pores. Vinyl siding is smooth (even though it has those grooves) so like "he" said, no, don't back roll.

@@UMepher You might have missed the part where I wasn't talking about vinyl siding but was referring to POROUS surfaces (not smooth) so, yes you do, otherwise your paint is going to sit on top of the wood siding or whatever porous surface you are painting, and eventually peel. Disagree if you like but I paint very expenses houses in a very wealthy area for a reason and it's not because I'm doing it wrong.

With that being said Primer shouldn't be necessary before painting vinyl siding, unless the surface is pitted or the original color has faded so much that the siding panels have become porous. In that case, be sure to find primer specifically made for vinyl siding and brush that on before painting.Aug 24, 2019
