Major score on that Leviathan record. I've only ever seen that one online.

Dang, that "Speed of Darkness" record, nice pickup!!...... I totally agree on the Venom vs. Bathory topic, I don't get it either..... If it makes you feel any better, I don't even know if I've ever listened to Death in June before (if I have, I didn't realize it).... Good stuff, thanks!

Idk if its a better camera or lighting, but the quality is so good on this vid. Only thing (and maybe you've already looked at this) is the auto white balance is thrown off by the albums with mostly white covers. I don't even know if your able to fix it but wanted to mention it. Keep up the great work Myke!

Totally agree on the inanity of the Venom vs. Bathory argument, and man, I fuckin' laugh every time you say "vinyl"! I don't get the whole fucking Death in June thing either.

'Actually' it's Biggy Vs. Bathory! Man what a score, one better than the other. Really jealous of the debut Volahn.. Nice work Sir, fuck those sleeves you made the right purchase.

Of the wand and the moon. nice, totally agree they might not be the most innovative, but still very good. Relatively new to the channel, and was wondering about your opinions on hexvessel, as I don't know if you've spoken about them

Another great pickup vid , keep up the good work one question could you recommend one black metal album to begin from . You already got me into death grips and run the jewels via dead end . This could be the three peat . Ps as a Brit am intrigued to see if you have heard modern ruin by frank carter and the rattlesnakes . All the best

I dig the first three Bathory records, but you gotta know I dig the first 4 Venom albums more. Seriously, so addictive and catchy and fun to listen to. The argument is stupid but it's perpetuated almost anytime Venom is mentioned on KZbin. Nada trumps all Death In June and I'm also a huge fan of Lesson 1: Misanthropy, but in fairness I dig most eras of Douglas P including the Crisis years. Of course that's not a new development... that's been true since my rivethead years in high school, which potentially go back further than some of your subs have been living.

Word. I fucking love Nada, too. It's just such a bizarre as record. The neofolk combined with the weird ass Dead Can Dance parts. I love it. But I think my favorite is still Rose Clouds. I listen to that album on a regular basis. It's just such a well made neofolk album.

Sir, could you please tell us your views on Slowdive's self-titled album. A review would be great. I know you love the band, isn't it?

What happened was that Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir talked about Death in June on his snapchat, and then Brandon from Panic! At the Disco saw that and tweeted about it, (and you know how metal dudes loves Panic! At the Disco) and one thing lead to another and suddenly they just became really popular in the metal community.

I don't know about what you've said at the end, but for me, I'd pick Current 93 or Coil over Death In June any day of the week. And not just because they're kinda sketchy, or because Current 93 is one of my favorite bands, it's just because they're overall not as good.

Myke, you've often stated that it takes you multiple listens to get into an album. I'm curious as to your general mindset when going into a new project on the first listen, thanks!

People argue about venom vs bathory... but what about Celtic Frost/Hellhammer? I like all 3 bands but imo Celtic frost and hellhammer were just as important as Venom and Bathory
@mykectown7 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely. But I don't think I hear Hellhammer mentioned as much as Venom and Bathory. But I think, when you talk to people in the know, they'll definitely give them a mention. But, to be honest...I'm not much of a Celtic Frost or Hellhammer fan.

You did better with the pronunciation of that first Volahn lp than I did....haha. As I mentioned before "The Way it Was" was a big deal for me growing up too. Nausea and YDL on the same wax...the late 80s were weird. It's gotta be the sketch factor with DIJ, it fucking has to be. I'm down with selected tracks, but I'd rather jam some In Gowan Ring or Espers for my dark folk fix.

You lost me at thinking emoji, haha...but not really. Nice Leviathan find. I actually just found 4 Leviathan CDs at a Goodwill in Marietta. I was pretty shocked. I do dig some Death In June, but they have a lot that does nothing for me. I do love their imagery, videos, and artwork though.

Arguing over personal musical taste is always amusing to me. I really wish i knew why Death In June is popular with Metal Dudes cause i just don't feel it, has never clicked with me. Which is weird, normally i love some Neofolk insanity.

Death in June being "cool" now and getting a pass while the other mentioned bands getting shit on or left out is how i felt in high school when everyone said the smiths were great but the cure or souixsie and the banshees suck. Ill never understand the mentality of hardcore and metal kids that hop on whats cool because one person said so. Its the opposite of what those genres have always been about, at least in my opinion.

Black mark does such an awful job with re-issuing Bathory. For starters I don't see why they've done all these remasters, It obviously has to be done if you put an album on a format it wasn't on when it first was released, besides that it's really just shitting on the legacy of Bathory. It seems like they don't realize how much money they could make seeling a proper vinyl boxset with the original masters.
@mykectown7 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think these remasters are typically bullshit. They don't really sound any different. They just say that shit so they can charge more money for it.
