Great job for beginners. ✅PRO TIP: pieces were you used heat should be post heated afterwards. This means heating the warped pieces to about 212 degrees F (100 degrees C). The perfect tempurature differs from brand to brand so be sure to check a technical sheet to know the sweet spot. You can check the tempurature with a laser meter but a simple way to know if its heated sufficiently is to keep heating and applying pressure until you see the underlying glue pattern. This will mean you effectively break the memory function and fully break the glue lines that the vinyl has. For Avery this is a honey comb pattern, for 3M its a normal checkerdboard pattern.

Thanks for the tutorial. Thanks for showing how the cutting tape is used, which nobody else seems to show. I appreciate the information for wrapping smaller items or sections of a vehicle. I would probably never attempt a full vehicle wrap or even a hood, but wrapping is an excellent option for small feature pieces. I had two color painted pillars on my SUV that separate between glossy black tinted window panels. Wrapping the pillars in a gloss black vinyl looks very similar to the glass and gives the vehicle a "floating roof effect", now that the glass looks like it wraps around the back of the vehicle. I also had gloss black painted pillars between the glass of the front and back doors and on the driver side there was a small dent/dimple, which was very shallow, but just enough to catch the light to accent the dent. Filling the dent with spot putty was adequate to fill the dimple and wrapping over it made the dimple completely disappear without having to do bodywork and paint. The passenger side was also wrapped to match. The possible uses for wrap for vehicles and other items or equipment is only limited by the imagination.

Just my tips: start with the flatter easier surfaces. Save the tank or curbed surfaces for after you've made good progress. If it's your first time, this will really save time and get you practice before you get to the tank.

Pretty good vid. The only thing I would say differently would be. The part about doing it in pieces. I always try to do whatever i'm wrapping in one piece. Like on the fender, I could maybe see doing the horns separately. But the cool thing about vinyl is when you hit it with heat it will p much do whatever you want. Most of the time just rubbing it with your fingers will do the job. I try to use the heat gun as little as possible, till the end. It's a lot more work, but it looks better and is a lot easier to take care of after the fact. You don't have to worry about the seams too much if you say take it for a wash.
@BikingVikingHH2 жыл бұрын
That’s what I posted, vinyl stretches way more and could easily do that in one piece, especially if he had a second person to hold it, giving him two hands free to pull and stretch the vinyl
@BikingVikingHH2 жыл бұрын
You definitely could have covered that first piece in one vinyl sheet. Just heat the vinyl up and stretch it way more than you are. By pulling it you can expand it in certain areas, allowing you to put it into concave spots
@chrisgraham2904 Жыл бұрын
The 3M quality product is a little more forgiving when stretched than some other brands. Also, over stretching can damage the color or finish, particularly with metallic wraps for mat finishes.

Another excellent video ! Just found this and it's awesome. Wife and I installed a thick strip of Red 3M 1080 on my Tacoma hood (for small rock protection) and it's still holding up nicely ! Looking forward to using the 2080 to cover parts of a 2014 Yamaha Vino Classis project. Just something to think about, I've been using the smaller box cutters that use the one-sided sharp razor blades to cut amazingly well. The one-sized blades are much sharper than the utility knife blades, but they don't last as long. You could also just use the 'loose' one sided blades, but these give you something bigger to grip.

I agree, however, plasti-dip spray is easier and the result is better (as in: less issues like bubbles, stretch or peeling). Also, depending on the thickness and type of damage, it can take more or less abuse. IMHO vinyl wins only if you want a texture. I wrapped my MT-07 in a "brushed metal black" and it looked sick! It did take me over 10 hours total, though. Same thing with spray takes up to 2 hours and you don't need to take anything off the bike.

Why not put two cutting tapes next to eachother? Use one (the furthest from your vinyl you want to keep) for the first cut and the second one, cutting your first piece AND your second. Your seam would be nearly perfect? Or place one and use it when both pieces are applied? I have no experience, but it might be a viable option?
