Hey guys, back with another video and today I wanted to go ahead and make a newer more current version of one of my older Survival guides and that is going to be the Best Armor and Apparel for Survival Mode video! Everything here should be current up to Nuka World and all the information here should be pretty in depth!

Good video, but I found a couple of minor mistakes: 1. About ignoring T-60 armor: if you don't side with the BoS, are you kidding? If you become enemies with the BoS, you'll get access to virtually unlimited quantities of T-60 armor parts just because of all the BoS soldiers you'll have to kill, heck, even if you side with them, you'll still bump into a lot of dead BoS members that are usually patrolling the Commonwealth and get killed by enemies, like in Mass Relay where the BoS likes to attack and get cluster-fucked by the Super Mutants there and neighboring raiders. 2. Stimpaks do NOT affect your immunity, they just make you dehydrated, it's Radaway and other chems which can potentially affect your immunity.

I used to do that, but I found that companions power armor always gets fucked up pretty fast in combat because of AI & wot not , So all that ,means is I have two sets to repair, so no point imho, plus I must own about 40 sets of power armor by now,

For anyone coming back to this 3 years later. I would like to point out that the zealot marine armor with the ultra light weight mod weighs 11.8lbs. That is 20lbs less than the ultra light assault marine armor and 48.5 lbs less than deep pocketed assault marine armor. It still gives you 108 of bot resistances on top of the ballistic weave so you only sacrifice 32 of each protection.

Agreed. It's a damned shame though that, due to the leveling system for spawning power armor, you're very unlikely to actually find any, often just going from T-45 to T-60 (in fact in my first playthrough before the Season Pass DLC came out, the first time I found T-51 pieces were on Clint and Tessa at Quincy - I had to buy a helmet from the Atom Cats to get a full set).

23r0 Gaming once you get to level 15 you can find t-51, but past level 20 is when it rarely spawns, it's not hard to get any just be smart about when to search for it

RoboGameBoy64 I know, it's just that most of the time I gain levels so quickly early on that I don't really have time to find T-51 before T-60 supplants it unless I go out of my way to try and find it, and if I do find a suit of power armor within that level range, 9/10 times it's T-45.

If you want the maximum amount of resistances out of a single piece of clothing, the mechanist's armor with ballistic weave mk.5 is the best I've come across, despite it's bulky appearance.

@Giovanni Muciaccia Mechanist's armor has 72 DR and 72 ER + additional 110 DR and 110 ER from ballistic weave so yeah, it is "maximum res on a single piece of clothing". Problem is that mechanist armor is an outfit and covers all armor slots (beside of head) so any fatigues with the same ballistic weave mod + 5 pieces of any tier III and above armor (or even heavier variants of tier II like sturdy leather) will be much better in terms of resistances and on top of that you have 5 pieces with really usefull miscellaneous mods (like deep-pocketed or ultra-light) and, much more important, possible legendary effects on them. So over all mechanist's armor is a really bad idea...

It would be cool if there was mod called "Survival power armor" and which it basically has an hunting/scavenger look but for power armor. you would also have an ghille suit type look with all the basic survival shit attached to you like water canisters,makeshift backpack,etc...

yeah but combat armor looks cooler and has less weight and is only beating a little in energy resistance......... and i never thought that the raider gang armor from nuka world made any sense why the hell is it so good it's just thin metal plates even less then metal armor yet it has the best stats in the game(when in all rights metal,insititute and combat armor should beat the shit out of it never mind marine and robot armor(which has alot more metal to give protection)). since when is thin metal plates made by savages meant to be better then per-war armor that was design to be the next best thing bar power armor itself by the US goverment

I know im late to this thread but i think Combat armor is the best armor. Yeah everyone will bring up the DLC armor but that stuff is WAY to heavy for me to use. Heavy Combat armor with Deep pocket mod is a great way to go so in my opinion is key. At least when you look at it from a weight to DR ratio.

What I'll say about the T-60 and X-01 (which I'm surprised wasn't touched upon in this video) is that in order to keep a full suit of either maintained, the Scrapper perk is practically mandatory, as scrapping weapons that you find (particularly energy weapons) will be the easiest way to get large amounts of rare materials needed to maintain those sets of armor. With Scrapper, what would normally be the deal breaker for using those armors becomes almost trivially easy to mitigate (basically, go farm any place where synths are the primary enemy for their weapons, which can be scrapped for plastic and circuitry - alternatively, anywhere with Gunners also works). Also, something to keep in mind for stealth builds: one of the factors affecting stealth is how much weight you're carrying (along with other factors like the Sneak perk, the US Army Covert Operations Manuals, the Agility stat etc.), so it may actually be a good idea to wear, at most, a ballistic-weaved clothing item under some light armor with the 'shadowed' mod to reduce the odds of detection when hiding in shadows. I usually find that a good choice for those builds are military fatigues and a set of LIGHT combat armor (including a helmet) with the shadowed mod, as the whole point of such builds is, rather than being able to tank hits, to avoid being shot at at all.

23r0 Gaming well he is talking about Survival mode where you're weight limit is greatly reduced and bullets also have weight as well, so you have to be able to maintain your weight in as well as outside of your power armor when you do need to repair it

RoboGameBoy64 I know, but it still makes it a lot easier to salvage the materials by just farming weapons instead of trying to just hope you can find the right scrap in various places or just buying it. Of course, shuttling all of those weapons back to your base to scrap them can become quite tedious (especially with the lack of fast travel), but if you build up a decent stockpile, it makes it a lot easier to maintain a set of T-60 or X-01 than it would be otherwise.

The best paint for the X-01 is the Explosive Shielding, just try it, halved incoming explosive damage on your health bar AND on the durability of your armor!

Ive always believed that even though T51 is not the "best" power armor in the game, the steel repair cost can be easily repaired in the field with all thkse pipe pistols and tin cans and what not you collect. No guarantee youll always have resourcer to repair better armor. Also in regards to regular armor weight. Deep pocket mod is the answer to making the armor lighter. Not too mention ballistic weave perk will be a big help for increased damage resistance.

Combat Armor with Deep Pockets has an effective negative weight with regards to carry capacity, although it doesn't count to VATS. So if you just want to carry more stuff, instead of worrying about VATS, Combat Armor with Deep Pockets modifier actually nets you extra carry capacity over and above the weight of the actual armor. Plus you can farm for the appropriate legendary effects as described in the video to maximize whatever you'd like.

t-51 has a legendary wich increases your AP refresh speed when you are exposed to rads. good in glowing sea (you can get it by completing the quest at polymer labs, the quest is actually pretty fun!) also i kinda understand why x0-1 has more stuff for repair (x0-1 is pretty damm op)

If we're going by best non-power armor damage resistance per pound on a chest piece, I'd say it would be the Yao Guai Finger Necklace. According The the Fallout wiki, it provides 10 damage resistance and 7 energy resistance while being only 1 lb, meaning it has a hybrid damage resistance of 17/lb. It also comes with the added bonus of plus +2 strength, so it even pays for itself.

Coolcleverstone I've been running around in survival in nothing but the harness until I killed Kellogg, then I snagged that bc it is the same weight. In survival, armor is basically useless unless you are going for an uber tank build, usually only making the difference between a one hit kill and a two hit kill. If you actually treat survival as survival and play the game intelligently, you don't need that much armor and can save that weight for more important things.

My favorite setup is a X-01 helmet, Tesla T-60 Arms and Torso, install Jet Pack, finish up with whatever power armor legs.

If you are truly worried about weight, putting deep pockets on all pieces will in some cases put you ahead on weight (especially if the armor also gives strength). Obviously stealth builds will still want ultra-light, but melee should consider deep pockets. Also pro tip for anyone who didn't know: you can craft the higher tier upgrades on the tier one versions of all armor and transfer them to the tier three versions. this makes it so you only need rank 2 armorer for almost every upgrade.

Strength based build? Use regular armor - Fortifying or using Rads with Rad Powered and Unyielding can put your Strength into the 30's making the weight irrelevant and your damage exceptional. Great for unarmed and melee builds. Luck build? Got to be regular armor (I'm at Luck 20 - 22 if I ever find a Lucky Chestpiece). Great for handgun builds. Charisma and Intelligence Builds? Go with Power Armor - since that will let you neglect Strength and some Endurance while you build other abilities. Great for Commando builds. Sure, they limit your Stats, but there is little gain taking those stats far past 10. Perception builds (snipers)? Be open to either. Most of the time you won't want PA, because you spend too much time sneaking and sitting (a waste of cores) and you don't need the protection because you are seldom hit. Having it around, however, can be nice - particularly for tight dungeons with tough or ranged enemies. Of my 6 characters I've played at length (melee, 25% health melee, sniper, commando, pistol, and heavy gun/unarmed), only the Charisma Commando and Intelligence Heavy Gun builds use PA regularly.

True, and it’s damn hard to sneak in PA. You can do it but it takes a lot of investment. Plus finding the sprinters effect makes regular armor stupid fun for any build.

Is there a good way to get T-51 pieces if I'm leveled past the point of finding it in leveled sets? I didn't gather any of it when I was low level, now everything I find is X-01 or T-60. I can't afford the repair costs of those suits!

I just stick with t60, the legendary pieces from bos and the tesla pieces from automatron. However, I am thinking of going to x01 when i finally get the quantum armor. Not quite sure, I mostly use the power armor for a huge carry weight boost. T60 is already good enough damage resistance, its manageable enough if you loot enough. I did stick to t51 for a while though, and i love the paint jobs. The railroad one actually looks pretty nice too.

Ultra light isn't always they way to do. Some of those other effects are really good compared to the few pounds you save yourself. Two arm pieces with the stabilize mod make it so you need have to hold your breath while snipping again

If you're on PC or Xbox, there's mods you can download that unlock the Ballistic Weave. I'm sure a similar mod is possible for PS4 if you have that as well, since it doesn't add any new assets to my knowledge.

Crystar "Mods" on PS4 won't be out until next month, at least. On Skyrim "mods" will available the 28th of October, and they said Fallout 4 would come after that. So... gotta wait a while there.

With the scrapper perks and access to Arturo in diamond city repairing higher level power armor is a cake walk as you can get more than enough aluminum from deconstructing weapons you pick up and buying shipments.

Ah man, I love the look of t-51, just the lore of it being the best, and it being really friggin cheap to repair, made it my go to PA in all playthroughs, X-01 and T-60 is good until you realise you don't have the components to repair on the move and have to head home, t-45 is good until you get t-51, man, I just really like t-51

T-51 is my preferred armor in my current Survival Vanilla Playthrough. Easy to repair and upgrade makes it leagues ahead of T-60 and X-01

Just started playing this game after a few months and found armor at the brother hood of steel at lvl 4 keep in mind and it was soo good it had 25 defense and 27 energy resistance and dude I used that armor for halve the game

I seem to have found a bug where my power drains my fusion cores in seconds when walking. Not sprinting, walking. I burned through 50 PC before i noticed it. Tried disabling mods, no effect. Tried on a new character, no change. Tried wiping the cache, nothing. Deleted & reinstalled, still no change. Someone help

Early on in survival. Dimond security armor is a good choice for ballistic. And can make you immune to fire damage. Incredibly useful against molotoves and flammers.

I take a more tactical and stealthy approach, which is why my armor is geared towards maxing out my carrying capacity. I don't worry about bringing power armor because I don't tank my way through confrontations.

Ballistic weave is the greatest thing ever. the fact that the hats get power-armor levels of protection for much less cost is crazy. long-run weave is the way to go if you can afford the weight of armor.

i highly recommend padded mod for at least the chest piece of power armor and combat armor. it makes a big difference with anything that explodes on you like mines and missles and even nukes.

Sometime using the deep pocketed mod can be better than the ultralight, as deep pockets add 10-20 carry weight, so essentially taking 10-20 from the weight of each piece

heavy combat + x01 is alwayst best. i have lvl 120+ run on surv and never run short of repair resources

I dont really find the x01 repair costs excesive. Its the upgrade costs that will drain a shit ton of resources. At level 40 I barely had enough to upgrade a full t60 armor set, but in survival I dont pick up as much loot as in normal difficulties. I really recomend getting ada asap and upgrading her storage capacity if you dont want to do the pick up glitch with companions

It also has a true unique legendary effect thats not on anything else in the game i dont think. And its built in face shield might provide better protection to the head piece. Although you cant put paints on it or a jetpack, not sure about ballistic weave.

I play blitz-melee-sneak charakter, and I go with military fatigues. It is easier to obtain early on than army fatigues (fixed location in Cambridge police station), and it has an additional 5 damage resistance!

Once you have ballistic fiber upgrade you will choose the rest of your armor according to its legendary ability. I really would like to see detailed videos about the usefulness of legendary effects on survival with complex approach (like low and high level aspects) especially in case of the unique armor pieces what you can buy from vendors.

I actually switched my sneak build to power armor. The funny thing is i still can sneak around like I don't have armor on. Also, wearing armor inside power armor doesn't stack. Go in power armor naked cuz clothes stats doesn't stack either and less weight to carry.

You don't need to side with the railroad to get ballistic weave. You just need to help them for a few quests, until you get to the point where you have to go to a DIA cache, a little bit later tinker tom will start selling them which means you can craft them yourself, after that you can side with the BOS or Institute and just slaughter the railroad

Ballistic weave with newsboy hat gives +1 charisma, and I like the Minutemen outfit with weave. That plus spiked leather to keep things lighter, add deep pockets to get carry weight to 300. Lone wanderer takes you to 400. Jump in power armor and you’re over 500. Is there any ballistic weave outfit that adds charisma? I only find hats. I never spec into charisma because I can pass speech checks with chems and clothes. Change into Reggie’s getup, plus glasses and hat, its practically 100% pass rate.

Overboss and t51 were sincerelly a really good option in survival for their low cost to repair and legendary effects in special t51 nuka kola with +3 agility. In the case of t60 like a vats armor because have a lot armor legendary which increase action points and reduce cost of vats more mods to improve vats in power armor. X01 was my another vats armor in the case of quatum power armor but easier to get because legendary t60 pieces take some specific missions of bos with restrictions and all. My favorite power armor were t45 with minutmen paint , that shiny metal in that armor is epic, t51 with railroad paint which is the coolest armor that i saw and t60 with atom cats paint is my third favorite power armor. Raider power armor look cool but is weak i only wish that it had more legendary parts like tessa fist . X01 with hot rod paints are epics but limited in paints comparison with another armors because institute paint is exclusive of an ending :(

i have t51 helm n shoulders x-01 chest n legs (legs cuz more carry weight) when calibrated, and u can get out under water jst basically scuttling ur armor unless u get aquaboy
