Happy to say that I followed your lead and the install went off without a hitch. You did gloss over how you got from the B pillar to the rear, but it was simple enough--just had to remove the C pillar moulding (one T-25 screw involved) and fish it through. The shop I use quoted me 4 hours to perform the install to the tune of $600!! The whole thing took me just over 2 hours, so I just want to extend my thanks for saving me some money and giving me the confidence to pull this off on my own. Cheers to you, sir!

Wow, that's great to hear! To be honest I wasn't sure there were any other bmw drivers who would diy a dashcam and if this video would help anyone. I'm sure you know what I mean. Especially when it comes to modding. If this was a b58 supra the forums and community is unreal for JDM but bmw is not the same as it is for classic bmws.

I'm not kidding. If this video didn't exist, I'd be $600 lighter. If you end up at the Maple Grove Bimmer show next month lunch is on me! @@two_inline_sixes

which ground point did you use? I'm doing it right now, not sure which one to use.

@@MrSpiritmonger I think I used a screw I found new the fuse box under the glove box. I just backed the screw out a little, tucked the wire in (be sure to loop it around your screwdriver so it's circle shape to confirm to the head of the screw).

@@MrSpiritmongerIf you go to 17:06 you'll see a 10mm nut back there on painted metal (I think that's the one I used..), about center screen, toward the top. I removed that nut, scratched the paint from the metal where the nut would seat, and used that for my ground. Worked like a charm.

Plug your fuse taps into socket 46 or 47 for acc (HK4 yellow cable) and socket 27 (yes, it's empty by default) for constant power (HK4 red cable). That way your Dashcam switches to parking mode after 6-10 minutes (whenever the lighter sockets go offline). Did two X3s (2018&2022), works flawless...

I'm thrilled to say I successfully used your video to install a Viofo 229 duo in my 2021 BMW x3!! Your tutorial was super helpful, thank you for walking through each step, otherwise I'd be so toast. The Viofo works perfectly! The setup is so clean. I broke a few trim clips in the process and gotten some fiberglass splinters from headliners, but boy is it satisfying! Thank you so much @two_inline_sixes and @itswhips for your advice and suggestions!

@@two_inline_sixes did you have a problem where the cover of the trunk arm snapped in half? similar to video, i took off the cover, feed the wire with zip tie, then put the cover of arm back on, but when closing, the cover broke :( not sure what i am doing wrong (i gave extra wire length so there is no tension and room for movement)
@two_inline_sixes9 ай бұрын
@@MrSpiritmonger I didn't but if I remember correctly that cover is two pieces that clamps into it. If it isn't two piece it's a three sided U and needs each side pulled outward to lift off. If you gave slack give it on either side of the arm but not in it.

Are you sure you have the exact fuse locations? They are ok for me

Yeah. The cigarette lighter stays live all the time. Tried it overnight still live in the morning.

is there a way to keep recording in parking mode without shutting off after 6 minutes ? Thank you for the video.

Yes with an external battery like from blackboxmycar

@@two_inline_sixesI got my Vantrue installed but have the battery box going to the 12v plug. Do you know which fuse I can tap for always on power? My multimeter is acting up. For the rear cam I found it a lot less hassle to run the wire along the lower trim. I also installed a Radenso DS1 radar detector with the BlendMount up under the rear view mirror.

@@FastRedPonyCar nice. Someone said the fuse I used was constant power. Maybe it is but my camera has a setting I can't remember
@two_inline_sixes Жыл бұрын
@@FastRedPonyCar was revisiting comments and re-read yours. The battery will charge when vehicle is on so you want switched power. The battery kicks in when car is off so it keeps recording but if you wire it to constant your deplete your car battery and camera parking battery.

Your fuse taps used the wrong location if it shuts off after only 6 minutes.
