Two points to keep in mind regarding vibration. First of all, when the mounting point vibrates, the camera will too. Many fairings vibrate more then you realize. Secondly, what really effects the Viofo, is the way the camera is mounted. The bracket is quite fragile, and the camera is flimsy. That means that one has to be very carefull how to go about with its cable. When the cable vibrates, it will make the camera vibrate too. So fix the cable as close to the camera as possible to prevent vibration due to a vibrating cable
@TheMotorcycleBoss Жыл бұрын
I agree. I though the same thing when installing it. However; after these years and it's still on my bike, it is performing well. The mounts are lighweight and are still on STRONG. Only thing is that the UV exposure has made the camera's black color turn to a matte bronzy-gold color. Looks pretty cool but I preferred the black even the the gold color looks stock if you didn't know.

Follow up question: does this unit require constant power for any memory type features? If not, then wouldnt any parasitic current draw be negated by hooking both the positive and switched positive wires to a 12vdc switched supply?
@TheMotorcycleBoss2 жыл бұрын
No need for there to be power when the bike is off. Yes. That's what I did. However; to ensure there isn't too much current draw on the factory wiring, the blue switched 12v was hooked up to my running brake light & the main 12v line has its own dedicated fuse & relay. But yes. Assuming that the factory wires are well within the safe range given the extra current draw, what you proposed is a fine solution.

Good production quality. Might get one of these as a birthday present for a friend who rides. Little weary of the affiliate link stuff though, since unfortunately a lot of "reviewers" have ruined it by giving a product hugely high-priases knowing more people will use their link.

@@darkdiddler1439 I understand what you mean. I don't like that either. I strive to make my reviews non-biased. The only negatives that I found in this unit was that the GPS functionality requires a subscription, the parasitic draw, ( which is negligible) and the locked file feature being too sensitive. Aside from that, it performed as advertised. It will record video and loop record and it can be accessed via an app on the phone. All of which worked pretty flawlessly and has great video clarity in my opinion. Even tho Viofo sent me this item for free, there were absolutely zero strings attatched. They didn't pay me or incentivise me in any way. I am not obligated to say anything good about their product so you can rest assured that this review video is completely genuine. How does it cause a parasitic draw? I always assumed that if you spliced a trigger wire into a switched live the auxiliary equipment wouldn't be able to draw anything if the ignition was off? Am I missing something crucial here?
@TheMotorcycleBoss3 жыл бұрын
I completely agree and because of that, I wasn't expecting there to be any current draw when the bike was off. The trigger wire was connected to my running light on my rear brake. But if it still draws current regardless, that typically means that the wiring in the main box isn't exactly as great quality as it should be. It's a common issue in cheaper electronics.
@TheMotorcycleBoss3 жыл бұрын
With that being said, the parasitic draw on it isn't as bad as it could be.

@@TheMotorcycleBoss I asked a retailer selling this, who asked the manufacturer, and they said "either none or so little it might as well be none"
@TheMotorcycleBoss3 жыл бұрын
@@jtrigging The draw that it pulls is very little. However; given how small my battery is on my bike, the parasitic draw is enough to justify a relay. However, other bikes will typically have a bigger battery than mine and wont need one. The manufacturers simply cut out as much weight as they could with my bike even so much to heavily shrink the battery. So the relay would only apply to those that are 6Ah or less. Even so, I decided not to install a relay on my bike to see how bad the draw is given how close it is to my max current draw and it barely drains the battery at all after sitting for 2 months. But it was more of a drain than when I didnt have it. So it comes down to (add a relay if you have the time). No rush in this case.

Hey there, great review. I actually watched it prior to purchasing one and it had all the info I was looking for. However, I've run into an issue with mine and I was wondering if you've come across the same problem. When recording in constant mode the system has to break files into 4GB chunks. That's normal-ish for camera systems. BUT what I found is that there's gaps between files. So when I got to connect the files all back up again into 1 straight recording there's a second or so missing between two files. Have you noticed or could you test your unit to see if the same thing happens? Viofo support has been unhelpful in troubleshooting this issue. I assume it's a firmware issue.
@TheMotorcycleBoss3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. It does sound like a firmware issue and I haven't checked my unit for such a problem. However; I personally wouldn't really consider it a problem since a 4Gb file is of decent length when it comes to stitching 2 clips together. Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you regarding this issue. I would just work around it. Upon reviewing my videos, it doesn't seem to have much missing at all. Maybe 1 second max which is nothing. If this is posing an issue for you due to editing, simply do a fade transition to bind files together and I'm sure it'll turn out great! If you happen to find the issue, I would love to hear about it so please keep me updated. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you. Ride safe! Cheers!

@@TheMotorcycleBoss Yeah, unfortunately with my videos I'm not editing them in a way where I can cut in other footage to cover up the missing bits, even with a transition. Something that always bothers me is reviewers don't actually show the options. I run my dashcams (except the front one) in 5fps timelapse mode (Viofo A129 Pro and Mobius cameras) for long term retention. So I always want to know what timelapse options cameras have. Reviewers don't care because it doesn't occur to them to do anything but full framerate high bitrate etc. Most cameras don't even list in the manual what options are available. The MT1 manual makes no mention of timelapse

Easy install?? @4:01 you are soldering something...how is this considered an easy instal? Easy is also relative to how simple a specific bike comes apart to hide wires and what space is available for hiding components. Lets not forget that not every person can or should be taking something apart. I use VIOFO's dash cams in my car- they are great. This seems on par with those and for insurance purposes this fits the bill perfectly, but is fairly complex to install. I wish you would have covered the microphone better. I heard it stinks. An option for an external microphone would be better. The remote function is somewhat a gimmick IMO, but perhaps installing it under the seat where it can be access for those few times you may want BT and/or improve microphone performance would be better. All most people will need to know if if its on and recording. A simple remote LED for the handlebars is all that is needed for that. At $300 (current price in USA on Amazon as of my comment) its steep. They are likely using existing product Technology and parts with a repackaging. Other products have a display, which this does not, so they are saving on that as well. A $220-$240 price would be more in order for this, I'm betting they have about $60 in parts cost in this. NIce product, but I'm not jumping on it yet. I mount my GHOST X camera to my motorcycle, not as good video as this VIOFO, but it's only $90 has 4 hours or so worth of battery run time and can be removed and take to any other bike or helmet mounted. After many years of use, I accidentally broke the USB port so cannot charge it, hence my viewing this video. Maybe time to try a GHOSTXL, bit not $300 for this.
@TheMotorcycleBoss2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting your comment. The install is simple. Everything has a labeled connector and you only have to hook up a power and ground. The soldering was for the relay that I needed for my bike but depending on the parasitic draw allowable for your bike, it is not needed. I simply hooked the relay to any switched 12v wire. I used my rear brake running light for this project. But like I said, you may not need one. The system is quite pricey and I completely agree with you regarding the pricing. As far as the screen, assuming you plan to use this as a passive system as intended, it's not needed. You could hook your phone to it via bluetooth and stream the live data from either camera if you want. As far as the remote, it has a red light to indicate it is recording which I can see next to my odometer. This is a decent system for sport bikes as it is somewhat compact. But at the end of the day, everyone is looking for something different in a camera system and the Ghost may simply be a better fit for you. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and I hope to hear from you in my future videos one day. Ride safe! Cheers!
