+DitsSurvival Well, I think they are getting more upset at the fact that people (NOT David and Dan) are trying to bash their religion over these passages. Religion is allowed to not make logical sense, as long as it's benign religion (ie. believing in God and not believing that God wants us to kill someone over a cow or whatever because something someone wrote and someone else claimed to be God's Word is okay. It may not be "logical" to believe in some parts of the Bible over others, but as long as you aren't killing or raping people because of your religion, that's okay.)

***** Hmm, my post is unclear by horrifying I meant the fact that these things are taken from The Bible, not the actual song you created from it. I love it.
@MyAnchorIsJesus8 жыл бұрын
Taken out of context, and combined with lines that aren't even part of the same scripture, definitely makes it more-so eerie than it actually is when read in context. I'm not saying you're wrong about people, who claim to follow it's teachings, not reading as much as the individuals in this video, but definitely not all of us (heck, that's not even considering the literal millions who believe that can't own one due to where they live and/or their circumstances). Most of these lines are quotes spoken by wicked individuals and testifies of the wicked acts individuals/groups/cities were committing [i.e. God destroyed Soddom and Gomorrah because it was a city of rape, violence, etc. and refused to turn from their ways]. I'm just hoping people who've never read the Bible don't watch this and assume God is OK with such things just because it's written about in His word. [sorry, this is a lot longer than I meant it to be]
@johnlibbywelling28068 жыл бұрын
MyAnchorIsJesus Well, the fact is that even taken in context the bible has some messed up crap in it and often about actions God takes or his followers do. The Bible is what lost me about Christianity. If you are to believe it is the word of God and all true then that's not a God I would choose. Even if you accept the Bible as a fable like Greek Mythology then it is usually a tale of mistakes made and atoned for or seeks to tell a moral lesson. I don't need the bible or the threat of a God who would strike me down in order to be a good moral person. I teach my children that they should do what is right, simply because it's right. Not because they are going to be punished if they don't.
@johnlibbywelling28068 жыл бұрын
Maybe God should have spent his time inventing printing presses and book bindings way back when instead of sending plagues and turning cities and their people to salt.
@saffysaffyrocks8 жыл бұрын
so i happened to have a bible from 1889 sitting infront of me (i was doing RE homework earlier lmao) so i decided to fact check a fair few of these and the ones that i checked were accurate, although a few of them were paraphrased. For example; "violence! rape!" is instead "violence and spoil", however "make their flesh rot" is instead "Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth" which is even more horrifying imo TL;DR: all of the quotes are accurate, just paraphrased in order to fit a more modern audience
@jimbok217 жыл бұрын
saffysaffyrocks you're Bible is from 1889 and a more modern Bible might say the exact lines from the song. As time changes, so does the English language so the Bible needs to be slightly tweaked so it can be understood differently. Also, different versions can translate words slightly differently so that's why one Bible might be slightly different to the next but overall, they are minor changes and all have the right content in them
@jasonms117 жыл бұрын
Seriously, there are hundreds of Bible versions with slightly different text interpretation.
@DodgyDaveGTX7 жыл бұрын
So how much can one update/paraphrase Bible verses before it can no longer be called a Bible? Like, if I wrote a version of the Bible but made it so that instead of a cross, Jesus died on, say, a 6-foot tall wooden ganja leaf on the grounds of making it more youth-relevant without altering the definitive plot points, where would one draw the line? And who has authority to decide whether or not one book of words can be classed as a Bible while another cannot? These are the questions we should be asking ourselves and our local men-of-the-cloth.
@nicholassingleton64887 жыл бұрын
Man like Mr. Hans McManz as much as I loved imagining Jesus hanging on a giant pot leaf, the only changes people make are translations. Thine becomes your, thy becomes you. Grammar changes too. No actual content is changed. I still like to read NRSV tho, cuz that is a direct translation from the original Greek. It's a little tough to understand sometimes, but you can't beat the OG.
@teastation93967 жыл бұрын
I agree and disagree. I think they chose those words as their main chorus because they are themes that are, oddly enough, fairly common in... Well, the Old Testament mainly. So, while they aren't exact lines collected from the bible - they are themes that are prevalent enough in the publication to make religion difficult for some to understand and follow. [Myself included. Why preach love and community just to turn around and say "I will literally cause your children to be raped if you are on my land or aren't a good person." There are more effective teaching methodologies than violence and rape.] That being said, I think its somewhat trivial to try and dissect whether they actually quoted the full lines or not. They captured the spirit of a side of Christianity that most advocates are either ignorant to or simply refuse to acknowledge. Even worse, there are those that try to rationalize it, even though it's just living proof that the document is more of a history book than anything else. After all, the ones who win the war... write the history.

Same! We know our religion and the stuff in the bible. To be honest, this stuff made me think of the corruption of sin and humanity over time. @croutonic33248 жыл бұрын
+Kaneki Ken Don't think someone evil would literally turn into a suffering, bleeding human to save humanity from floods and sin and death... The Old Testament was about the struggle of humanity trying to connect with God in a world broken by sin, while God desperately tried to find a way for them to go to heaven. Wow, sorry, this rant is long. Haha, whoops. Atheists aren't evil. We just wish we could help them understand how great it feels to have a sense of purpose and belonging.
@honestchild52348 жыл бұрын
So he isn't evil but he still was the one who flooded the entire world to kill his own creations and stoned people for just fucking people of the same sex in their own personal sex lives. Makes a lot of sense, huh. Also, i never understood that argument. Religious people have purpose and Atheists don't? Let's say God did exist in this world. Whether it was your God or Allah or Yahweh or any other God, there still would not be a purpose behind any of this. There could be nothingness everywhere without anybody or anything inhabiting any kind of place and a God just magically popped in, created a few people and promised them heaven if they are good to eachother? That makes no sense, let alone has it any purpose. Face it, buddy. We all are unwillingly born into this mess and we all eventually die. Promising ourselves a magical trophy if we abide by the laws of some books made thousands of years ago only makes us waste the time we have in this world not to mention makes us delusional. I'd rather live free from the rules of the mighty sky sugar daddy than to waste my life waiting to die in order to get some debatable prize afterwards.

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both **man and woman, infant and suckling**, ox and sheep, camel and ass. “But if in the field the man finds the girl who is engaged, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lies with her shall die. But you shall do nothing to the girl; there is no sin in the girl worthy of death, for just as a man rises against his neighbor and murders him, so is this case. When he found her in the field, the engaged girl cried out, but there was no one to save her.” - Deuteronomy 22:25-27 Psycho? God is just, and he communicated his rules through the the ten commandments. We (as humans) can't follow the commandments, so we should be punished- as a just God would. Murderer? The entirety of the Bible makes it clear that the punishment of sin is death. To murder is to kill someone unlawfully ( dictionary definition : Oxford.) Abuser? Read above. 'a person who treats another person or animal with cruelty or violence, especially regularly or repeatedly.' God is able to deal his punishments as he sees fit. Homophobic? Yes, he detests all homosexual relationships- but is this not the same as any other sin? Every other sin (lying, cheating, stealing, murder, hatred, assault) is also inevitable for us(as sinners), but we can still find forgiveness in the death of Jesus - which instantly relieves us of all punishment as we have faith in him. Incest? “The crime of sexual intercourse or cohabitation between a man and woman who are related to each other within the degrees wherein marriage is prohibited by law”. The bible states that you cannot sleep with someone whom you haven't married- they work with each other perfectly.

I guess something like this could be made based on a medical handbook or a law text. I read some stuff from the EU about sexual crimes it was pretty gross. If you're about to fight crime, you have to name it. And that's why I think there's so much of this in the Bible. God never hides away stuff that brings shame. He shows it, so we can learn on the errors of others. But again: without reading it as a whole, with context of the culture that this was written in, it's hard to understand what's the point and what happens or what that means. THat's why I try to keep in contact with peope who spent their lifes understanding it, so I can understand it too, because I trust God, and I believe it all makes sense. Luckily we're all gonna die someday :) What do. Pray and carry on.

I'm seeing so many comments saying "this was taken out of context, its false," etc etc. Yeah, that was kindof the point. But regardless, its still in there. The bible is meant as a life lesson, to tell people what sort of choices would make a "righteous" life, to avoid hurting others without strong neccesity. The method of telling, the wording, and many of the specifics are horribly out of date (its 2000 years old, what do you expect), but the basic values hold true. But you're not going to give people a life lesson just by puking rainbows over them. You learn by making mistakes, and the Bible contains as many of those mistakes as our more recent history. It was written by relatively few people(compared to more recent history), and all of those people had the views of the christian world, so they would write it in context with their religion. And remember, history is written by the victors. To my fellow atheists, take the bible as a history of how people saw the world back then. It will make it a lot easier to understand and accept. It is not truth, but neither is our scientifically obtained history "truth". It is simply the closes approximation to the actual facts that we have, and unlike religion science is constantly trying to disprove itself, to discover its errors and mistakes, and to fill out its gaps. That is the only thing that truly sets them apart. Most of the basis of modern-day science was from written text or person-to-person transition, just like religions. The difference is that the path of science (in general) is not afraid to admit they were wrong (exceptions apply of course), and is constantly changing to keep up with recent discovery. Thus we have things that need to be "believed", since the last significant update to them was centuries ago, and things that can be proven to your satisfaction using the knowledge and discoveries made during those same centuries.

The Bible says God is love but it also says "Fear the Lord your God" for good reason. And also all of the things they said make perefct sense if you read what's around it and not just picking out lines. This was great!

Man, the Old Testament is where it's at. If you ever need a source of metal lyrics or some seriously messed up content, look no further.

Ahh it feels good to be back to this song after around 3/4 years of not hearing it. I went through a phase where I would CONSTANTLY listened to Daves songs and I’m having a lil Dave marathon today 😂 I’ve forgotten how this sounds, all I remember is the fact that it used to HIT HARD
