I know this game came out in 1993. But sadly, this is a game I didn't know about until MANY YEARS LATER. I first heard of this game in 2008. But it wasn't until JUST NOW when I finally got to play this game! And its fantastic! I enjoyed every moment of it! I'm SO GLAD I finally got to play this game!

Also, some people say Lord Geld is based on Tetsuo from Akira. Which I sort of agree with (mostly the cloak). But to me, he looks more like Captain Ginyu without the horns, with Souther's hairdo, and the stitches on his body from Frankenstein's monster.

What's going on with the brightness in this game? All the characters are brighter and washed out than the backgrounds. Is this only a problem with the emulated rom or does the pcb have this problem too?

No filters were used here. The resolution of this game is 384x224, so the aspect ratio is 12:7. I know that on a real arcade machine, it would be squished to 4:3, but I still decided to go with the internal resolution.

@@arronmunroe not screen ratio, pixel ratio, mame doesnt output triangular pixels like a real arcade monitor, more like square ones, compare this vid to the one you post the link, notice this one looks widescreen while the one taken with the supergun is more square, also theres the issue with mame using a diferent black level, arcade monitors are meant to be brighter than pc monitors...

It's still the original arcade game, but I was a little less careful with checking the options at the time I played it. It seems the default setting in the service menu is for blood to be turned off, and I didn't know about it, so I didn't switch it on.

Why did so many of these arcade games have low contrast in the colours, and in this case black that is really high contrast next to the other colours? It looks weird.

I haven't tried the real thing myself, but I believe that this is one game where the graphics are not perfectly emulated. There is a video called "Violent Storm - 1CC (2 Loops / Not MAME)" which is a direct capture, and I believe it looks more accurate, however there could always be differences in recording and processing settings too.
