Wonderful fusion violin concerto originally composed by the maestro Raja sir for the film 'Raja Paarvai'(1981). The solo violin part in the original film was played by the great violinist V.S .Narasimhan and Embar kannan has done a good job in playing the solo violin parts in this concert. The concerto starts off on sombre note( Raga kamavardhani) followed by an exploration of raga in upper octaves with a dialogue between solo violin and flute/veena- Rhythm kicks in only at 1.26(Mridangam/Tabla- Indian percussion). Till 2.19 the whole musical scene is pure indian- From 2.19- solo violin starts playing predominantly in the western mode backed by the string orchestra(Violin, Viola and Cello) and is also in dialogue with other instruments- From 3.07- Drums(Western percussion) appear and the melody takes on a jazz/blues mode finally resolving back to indian(kamavardhani) from 4.11 onwards. Kudos to the entire orchestra for a brilliant live performance!

Thanks for the elaboration. It needed a virtuoso like Kannan to recreate VSN’s magic. Rajapaarvai was a musical (and visual) feast, quite a feat to replicate the magic after 43-44 years. Andhi Mazhai to me was a disappointment, Swetha was overawed and I badly missed TVG’s magic in the akaram interlude

Any raga connection/similarities with Idhazhil Katheyezhuthum song..? Forgive my musical ignorance, but the starting part sounded quite similar..

@@manurshankar1465 - Kamavardhini (Pantuvarali) is the pratimadhyamam equivalent of 15th mela Raga Mayamalavagowla. Raga Lalitha (இதழில் கதை எழுதும்), is a janya (child Raga) or derivative of Mayamalavagowla, hence you are able to discern some similarities.
