This advanced classical violin sonata Sarasate piece is quite a contrast from her usual pop music. Classical music is an art. Every violinist knows that playing at this level takes hours of practice a day. A very technical piece. This entire piece was memorized by her; she is not reading music. She was playing high up on the finger board or what some call "in the attic." which is several positions above the basic seven positions. The piece includes a run of false harmonics, which I would say is similar to voice falsetto. Watch this again and see how many times her hand shifts back and forth from lower to higher positions. When she was 13 years-old I remember seeing a You Tube video in her room she was talking about her family and I saw on her music stand-- Kreutzer Etudes for violin. I thought, "that is some serious stuff for a 13 year old." To play a piece like this, you need a good teacher and several years of practice at a minimum of three hours or more a day of practice. Classical music on this level can only be played like this by those who are willing to work for it. I like classical music, but I certainly can't play anything like this, but I do play the violin and viola.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not a musician but I couldn't fathom how she mastered the complexity of this piece, the tempo, the tone and from what I understand she doesn't read sheet music - yet. I'm a graphic artist and I got a glimpse of some sketches she drew casually in her diary which blew my mind. Truly unique artistic genius. Outstanding performance! I would have loved to continue studying classical violin but when my family moved there were no teachers available at my school Of course that was a long time ago I now play fretless bass guitar which is a very unique instrument in itself and very beautiful. This girl is amazing! She has such a sweetness and innocence a purity which I hope she never loses. She is so gifted and way beyond her years in the way that she plays violin. Those beautiful harmonics and she isn’t just technically an amazing violinist but she plays with intense emotion which sets her apart from the many. She is incredibly precise. Im not a musician, but I can appreciate the skill, passion and discipline that goes into pieces at this level. Caprice recitals, to me, are a kind of musical obstacle course for elite players to hone their abilities. Theyre designed to specifically demo someone's technical prowess, finesse, range and virtuosity, to a nose bleedingly high limit. All the signature performances in the movie "The Red Violin" are essentially caprice recitals like this one. It's an amazing feat to be able to play them at all, and it can be awe inspiring to do so at an even higher level of virtuosity than the already elite min threshold, and even more amazing still to do it at a mere 14 yrs old. It's mind blowing, and mine is not easily blown. A couple years ago, I remember posting about looking forward to seeing KP attempt some of these type of pieces, and she has NOT disappointed.
