Tonica Strings are on the Chinese model which could result in a harsher/ metallic tone, the Euro Fiddle has Eva Pirazzi's which are much more bolder and colorful tone so that's not the best comparison.

Exactly! You can't even begin to compare when you have such radically different strings on each violin.

Thanks for the review. We have 2 Chinese violins and one Czech violin. I agree with you that the European one has a more complex sound, but for practicing at home it is not very comfortable and tiring. In my Czech Strunal 331w, high frequencies predominate and this is not very comfortable. Perhaps the sound in the hall will be different. For the soul I want more low frequencies. I now have a Maggini 5 string model and I want to play it and can’t stop playing it. It actually sounds more like an alto. String Do Eva Pirazzi. Sol, re, la Tonica, and Mi Tomastik superflexible chrome braid, I think it sounds better Eva Pirazzi.

To me, in the first longer playing segment, the Chinese wood violin seemed to have more projection, a nicer tone and depth. In playing the scales, the Chinese wood violin still seemed to project more, but tone and depth this time was better on the European wood violin. Maybe another test is in order with longer pieces to gauge highs, lows, and responsiveness.

Hello, I have a Jay Haide à l'ancienne modèle artistique. It's a two pieces back. How do I know which wood if I have no other ones to compare it with. Also how to know which pattern is it a Guarneri a Strad?

Kindly let us hear the tones of these two woods, for comparison.

hi is there any indication on the internal label to differentiate between the Chinese and the euro wood?

What positive differences would be seen in the Chinese instrument with an adjustment to the bridge and sound post?

A lot. My violin (a Jay Haide modéle á l'ancienne) just had a bridge and sound post adjustment and the difference is really huge. It has a wider and brighter sound.

Could it be the strings? I have a Chinese made violin that completely changed when I put Evah Pirazzi’s on them. Evah Pirazzi’s can change a violin to project well. It also made my violin sound immensely clear going up the fingerboard.

Thanx nicolas! I carefully choose the best strings for each violin. Instead of comparing them with the same strings, i compare them with the best strings for that violin. That way i'm comparing the violins at their best!

you're correct. they have to make the Chinese violins sound worse so they can make more on "European" violins, which are made of improperly aged European wood made in Chinese factories
