ViolinClass Hello! Could you do a video on string crossings and separate bows as well? That somehow seems to be a whole different issue... Thanks!

I truly appreciate this very basic yet important lesson in string crossing. I've never heard anyone explaining it quite like this: to actually prepare to string cross, rather than just to cross it without mindful preparation. Thank you very much!!

Finally a mentor that's well composed and professional instead of young KZbinrs making jokes with classical and pushing views. 100% quality, straight to the point, so thank you.

Thank you ma'am for all your excellent lessons and videos, with special focus on basic foundation, which has never been taught to me sadly. You are a teacher extraordinaire! I have been through many violin teachers in my life and yet had to begin afresh last year in my mid thirties. I am truly glad to have found you!

Thank you professor! Regarding my string crossing I've always felt something was wrong, and I couldn't get the part where the string changes as "smooth" as the notes played on one string. I looked it up, saw you video and it opened my eyes! My teacher didn't talked about this at all. He must have thought it's too basic. I've been going back to the basics and applied what you've taught, and I noticed significant improvement on my string crossing, it's gotten smoother now without the akward "accent". Thank you!

I always love to hear the beautiful tone of your violin. Thank you for keeping the techniques simple. They give me confidence as I implement them into my practicing. I am a senior who began to learn to play, along with my grandson, whom we have been raising, enrolling him when he was a young child in the Suzuki program. He is now 15.

I have problems with lady Bushkova lessons. First trouble is her lessons are so interesting that I took my violine out of case to be ready as soon as she present them on youtube, or when I frequently take it to practice based on her lessons or inspired by. Second, her lessons, although quite basic, are obviously beautiful bases for much advaced violine techniques. Although my spare time is gone with these exercises, thank you Misses Bushkova🙂

This is so helpful. I realise now that I have no idea where my elbow levels are, but now I have a good guideline and will check in a mirror while doing this exercise.

Thank you for this intro on string crossing. I have a book series by Nicholas Laoureux and he may have suggested minimizing movement with the plane of the wrist. This book is a practical method for violin and doesn’t elaborate the way you do. Your efforts go above my expectations and may help me realize the great joy of going beyond the level of a beginner even though I’m just a late adult beginner.

I love your videos Julia, you're so awesome! I started learning the violin just a few weeks ago, but I'm progressing really fast. It also helps that I have a perfect pitch. My only problem now, aside from tempo, is crossing from E string to Re on A string without stopping. I always need to stop. Otherwise, it screeches. Can you help me? 🙏 Thank you Julia

Do you have a video on crossing from E to D or A to G, or even G to E??? Are these types of crossings rare? Also, thanks for posting this video. I learned quite a bit. And, you posted it on my birthday!! Happy birthday to me!

Thanks your video. I want to ask a question, when I play e note on A string use my little finger, the bow space (up and down) is very narrow and I am very easy to touch E or D string. How can I overcome this? Do my little finger need to slightly press down E string to avoid touch it?

If we are in the lower half of the bow and play in detachment and in a fast tempo, how do you recommend the movement? Does the elbow remain somewhat stable placed between the strings and will we make the movement only from the hand (i mean from the upper part of the arm)? or how do you advise?
@ViolinClassUSA
@ViolinClassUSA 2 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend being in the lower part of the bow in fast détaché (if that is what you meant by "detachment in fast tempo"). Fast détaché is played in the middle of the bow. But if you only have a couple of fast notes in the lower half, then it depends on the string crossing. However, the upper arm will always be involved in the lower half, yes. Otherwise, the bow will not stay parallel to the bridge. The elbow 'may' remain stable (and you do string crossings with the wrist), or it 'may' need to move - that depends entirely on the context.
