Viotti - Piano Concerto in G minor -

Giovanni Battista Viotti (12 May 1755 -- 3 March 1824) was an Italian violinist whose virtuosity was famed and whose work as a composer featured a prominent violin and an appealing lyrical tunefulness. He was also a director of French and Italian opera companies in Paris and London.
Of the 29 violin concertos by Viotti, at least 13 were also published as pianos concertos during his lifetime. Here it is a piano version of Violin Concerto nº 19 in G minor

What I can't understand is why Viotti is still so little known, when he has such a gift for memorable openings. Surely anyone who first hears this concerto will remember it, and want to hear more from its author?

Viotti wrote 29 masterful violin concertos. It is not surprising to find an excellent piano concerto among his works. Makes one wonder how much more music there is to discover. Since Viotti was director of the French opera, we should surmise that there are operas waiting to be rediscovered.

This Viotti piano concerto here is not bad. His violin concertos no. 22 and 23 are his best, and very popular among violin players. All the rest of his work are just so so.
