An in-depth review of the Viper Tech (or Vipertech, depending on where you look) gas blowback airsoft replica of the Colt M733, also known as the Colt M16A2 Commando, and more generally the Viper Tech product lineup. This is without a doubt the highest-quality GBBR we've encountered, but that doesn't mean it's perfect.

Excellent review! I have both a Viper Tech M16A1 and a DNS XM16E1 and I have to say the Viper is a bit closer in looks when compared to my real steel Colt rifles.

Would you mind briefly describing what you see as the main differences between VT and DNA (aside from VT being its own thing and DNA being VFC-spec)? Good comparative info on the brands is hard to find.
@Boeing727223

@@ExplosiveEnterprises Hi, unfortunately I have not done a comparison between the two as far as shooting goes as well as internals. As far as the visual difference VT came with actual M16A1 real steel furniture and the Anodizing is very similar to the Colt and correct for the time frame (medium grey). Flashing on the rear part of carrying handle and front of mag well not correct for Colt rifle. Ejection port cover and rear sight windage drum is gloss black when they should be parkerized grey. I believe I removed spacers out of the buffer tube in order to allow the bolt carrier to move fully back and it has the correct sound when the carrier slams back into place. The DNA XM16E1 is black and incorrect anodizing especially for an XM which should be lighter grey. No flashing like on the VT receivers, but gloss black dust cover (should be park grey). Partial fencing is correct and extends out to the center plane of the mag catch button. Furniture is not original, but well done. Front sling swivel is held in by rivet (correct) not roll pin like on the VT. You need a drift punch in order to get the takedown and pivot pins out to separate the upper and lower... VT much easier. VT has birdcage suppressor and DNA has 3 prong both correct. DNA selector moves too easy and needs stronger spring...VT has correct positive clicks. I will need to see about the buffer spring on the DNA seems weak and bolt carrier slams back too soft. These are all easy issues to fix and I fooled a couple of friends for a while until they broke down the VT and saw the weird bolt catch and bolt carrier. To me worth the money.
@Boeing727223
@Boeing727223 2 жыл бұрын
Quick note - finally broke down the DNA XM16E1 - drift punch and cushion to pop the takedown and pivot pins... full size buffer not carbine - same spring as the VT and bolt (Nozzle) is black plastic. Bolt catch looks almost like the real thing. Lower does not lock real mag but the VT will lock real mag but the bolt catch will not allow upper to fully close without modification.

Such an informative video honestly the best on KZbin to date. I don’t have a viper tech unfortunately but I do have a WA based Gbbr and you answered almost every ? I have had. I recently purchased a no bridge vsr inner barrel and pdi W hold bucking . Got two different stories from people one said they will work fine and drop right in another guy said I wasted my money and will not work at all idk how I got two different responses but you seemed to have cleared it up for me I think lol. Great video. I am looking to get an M16A2 GBBR to complete the 1980s US Army theme I'm currently running with. I've considered a number of options, from W.E. Tech's M16A2 on the low end, to also TM and GHK M4 systems, but I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and splash on a VT.

Fantastic video. and I love how your are running it old school im the same way! and loooove my vipertechs. on th 18mm nozzel im running CO2 and have many rounds through it. also played in very hot environments and the high pressure hasn't done any damage yet so far so good. im very interested to know about your feel of recoil between the weaker gas and co2. do you feel a big difference? also when doing the devils mod fill up im getting a good full mag out and thats about it. I thinks that with green red black gas and propane due to its slower expansion rate that you can fill the mags up more. what are your experiences with it?

Both my 416D and sr16 run on DH mod mags from ghk and im running the 18mm on my 416 no problems yet as well. The kick with co2 dg mod mags is stronger than using propane but with ebtech co2 mags is almost the same

@@TomiHarleydid you end up getting any issues with the 18mm and CO2?
@TomiHarley
@TomiHarley 8 ай бұрын
@@short1st65 great question, in short yes. But that’s after excessive use over I think now 4 years. Played for a short while with a real steel spring didn’t like that the recoil wasn’t ass strong but the bolt it slam forward harder and it was super snappy loved that. Then for many I think one year I had a 6oz buffer end then what I think did the rest was when I went up to a 10oz buffer for like 6 months I think. And it ran on devils Mod only. As you can see very harsh abuse for many years. Overall the bolt carrier exceeded my expectations by a long shot. The way I look at it is as if I am driving a car on a race track going super hard you will be needing to change tires brakes coolant oil changes frequently because obviously they’re wearing Tare bigger. Some people are very sensitive about that subject and they like to tell me not to do any of these things because the parts will break. I am OK with buying parts from time to time because to me recoil is one of the most important things. If there is no hard recoil I might as well switch back to an AEG. To sum up everything if you run your 18 mm bolt carrier on the devils mod only, it will last you for a very very long time. Again I am abusing this platform hard. And one last thing the fantastic news is the receiver with all of that abuse is still intact there is no deformation no cracks in it. I hope this was somewhat helpful to you. If you have any other questions, ask away.

@@TomiHarley thank you for all the info!! 10 oz buffer and real spring, that's quite intense! I guess my main question would be about what ended up being the issue/failing. Was it the nozzle in the way VT warned about, or was it unrelated?

Hey I'm about to pick up the same rifle, for a outdoor field would you recommend going higher bb weight like .43? Cost wouldn't really matter much to me since the magazine don't hold as much as traditional aeg's anyways.
@ExplosiveEnterprises
@ExplosiveEnterprises 2 жыл бұрын
We hope to do a video on BB weight in the future- at the typical 1.5J, you'll start to see longer time-to-target at 80-120ft with heavier weights than .36s. This might be worth it if you're looking to maximize your range, minimize impact of wind, or get better time-to-target at 150-200ft, but for general purposes we mostly use .32s or .36s for 1.5J.

24:08 - I'd like to know your thoughts/experiences with MAPP gas use in GBBRs. There isn't much information available from knowledgeable people. Motivation: Canadian (so subzero for 5mos of the year) and I have an unlimited supply at work.

Perfect timing- our next video will be about making GBBs work in winter. MAPP/MAP-Pro/Propylene will behave similarly to how propane would at about 10C warmer, and is a perfectly viable way to boost pressure in cold weather.

Hello, i've seen your videos and since i have a ghk ak and i live in a cold weather i wanted to ask you how are you using propane. I'm asking this because a lot of people is recomending it and i got myself two bottles of it. The thing is that i encountered a problem where the propane bottle must be hot for the gas to enter the mag and i don't know if you do this too because i saw you have a pretty good performance ok your mr with this gas and since i have to put 12 seconds of propane to finish a mag of 45 bbs i don't underst how people are getting like 70 shots out of one charge of propane. So if you can please tell me how am i supposed to use it.

Propane is essentially green gas without the added oil. If you're going to run exclusively propane, be sure to manually lubricate your gun properly. As far as the fill issues, the propane doesnt necessarily need to be warm, it just has to be a warmer temperature than the resevoir its trying to fill. For colder weather games, sometimes mags on your person warm up to do your own body heat depending on how you carry them. What I do to combat this issue is I try to keep my propane source in the sun or have a couple hand warmers on hand to just make sure it stays st a warmer temp than the mags. Also, using propylene gas will give you better cold weather performance as noted in the video.
@ossihurme7572
@ossihurme7572 2 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand anything about gases. Is that mapp gas really an upgrade when airsoft rifle gases already reach 200 psi? For the sake of conversation let's forget the added lubricant for now.
@ExplosiveEnterprises
@ExplosiveEnterprises 2 жыл бұрын
Propane (or 'green gas') is typically around 120 PSI at room temperature. While there are 'red gas' and 'black gas' that offer higher pressure, they aren't readily available in the US, and the differing pressure curves of their ingredients can make them less effective in cold weather than one might expect. MAPP substitute, which is just propylene, has a slightly higher pressure (~140 PSI at room temp), but similar pressure curve, slightly higher density, and slightly higher expansion rate. This combination of factors, particularly expansion rate, allows it to provide sufficient power to operate in cold weather without sounding and feeling like it's about to run out of gas at any moment.

Standard VT barrels come with a threaded insert that provides the 1/2-28 threading, but VT also sells 14mm inserts as well, or you can request to have a gun come with it to begin with.

Thanks for the review. GHK way better. Almost identical to the real steel parts and operation (internals especially), better recoil, huge aftermarket support, and half the price. There's so much more I could list. I know there are plenty of ghk haters for whatever reason d I don't understand why. I have 11 ghk's total while they have some issues so do the real ones.
@irius144
@irius144 2 жыл бұрын
Both systems are derivatives of WA, so both are pretty close to the real steel counterpart. Recoil wise I don't see why there would be any difference with the same gas or CO2 (I've compared my [more than a decade old] VT to a friends GHK). Internals are way higher quality than GHK, you can't do better than oil hardened steel. There is no aftermarket for VT because, quite franky, there is no need for aftermarket parts. VT also does custom orders which GHK doesn't do. Half the price is no indicator, handmade quality is always going to be more expensive, if GHK got their act together, MAYBE they'd be an alternative (like why tf is there still a slant in the BCG? Why are the feed lips still not made for 6mm bbs? Why in Heaven's name do they glue their nozzles shut? I could go on but I hope my point got across.) Owning 11 guns of a certain brand doesn't say anything except that you like M4/AR-15s.
