The reason AI was limited to 5 cars in previous GT games was because they all used the same physics as the player car. By the way you made me feel nostalgic with this video, really well done m8, Gran Turismo 4life ✌
@Skarfar904 жыл бұрын
There was also the problems with framerates dropping to an unplayable level if there were too many cars present. They could have had up to 12 (or 13) cars on track, but due to the way that the A.I. was coded, some problems could occur, like piling up on chicanes in addition to the aforementioned framerate issues. But if the PSX had more grunt, and the A.I. had better coding, then yes.. 12+ car races would have been totally possible to pull off. They didn't necessarily need to have 12+ cars in all races, but in the major ones like the GT World Championship or some of the endurance races.. would have made a lot more sense. Even the later titles on the PS2 were also limited to 6 cars per race (5 A.I. controlled, and one player) Oh.. And there was also a possibility that the game engine could crash if there was too many cars at once.
@midorifox3 жыл бұрын
Although mattj showed that the game can support 8 cars racing without issues, it can support up to 13, but you'll see some weird errors, like the lighting not working properly on some cars and some physics stopping working

The worst thing they started doing in GT was giving you like 10k credits first race, and starting you with a lancer evo or similar. In the first 2 games you would have to work hard to get a car that good, and it added so much more weight and purpose choosing whether to tune your current car or sell and buy a new car. Games give you too much too soon these days, which reduces the sense of accomplishment and makes them less memorable IMO
@NightWanderer314154 жыл бұрын
But past a certain point, the old GT games did this as well. Gran Turismo 2 gave you a car each time you won something, and some were quite powerful. I never had to buy any racing modified car since the game gave them to you eventually.

Thank you for making these videos, this brought back so much awesome nostalgia from seeing Gran Turismo 1 and 2 again, and each time I see any gameplay videos for these games, it always makes me want to go back and play through both of them again from start to finish! :) As tedious as the driving tests were too, they were actually pretty enjoyable and certainly a unique feature too! I reckon a lot of today's racing games should have that feature as standard, especially before letting players play Online perhaps, as I reckon it could perhaps reduce the amount of bad drivers who would be playing if they didn't make it through the tests, and/or even improve their driving ability to make for overall better multiplayer racing too, though I'm sure there would still end up being a lot of people who would still drive like a maniac in the end anyway! :P

The fading to white end with the song was the icing on the cake, thanks for bringing back so many great memories of those games, kinda miss racing on Special Stage Route 11 from GT1 and GT2 and the track at 24:30 which I think only appeared on GT2, the amount of mid-speed corners in it was great and the race being at sundown was a nice icing on it, being one of my favourite original circuits of the series. Would be nice if they also brought back the special cars like the Espace F1 on modern games, if not that one then perhaps the Twizy F1? Those sure were fun to race around, hue Wonder how many people can say that they 100% those games, only know one other guy irl besides me who did it, they sure had a lot of stuff. Kinda sad how games nowadays dont focus as much on the amount of content as they did before Still, thanks for this video man, cheers

@Viperconcept, I've been eating my fingers trying to figure out what I know this intro song from your video is from, I figured it out! It's from the "Demo 1" disc on the PS1, omg the amount of time I spend just playing the demo: 'Actua Golf' because it was the only game you could play that didn't have a time limit, because I didn't have any money for a new game. The memories... Thank you for revitalizing that, it's been a while and damn what a blast from the past! (Gran Turismo too btw), nice video dude! I was absolutely in love with Both GT1 and GT2, the thing I loved most about those 2 games, is that those were the only games that allowed for Racing Modification paint jobs + stickers. It made my whimpy little civic look like a real mean racing machine. It was Epic!

Excellent video, 32 minutes passed flying! Great memories, didn't remembered the first GT has a drift mode, wow, really ahead of its time! Looking forward for GT3 & 4 retro video!!! Gran Turismo was the reason i bought the playstation 1, GT3 the reason I bought the playstation 2, GT5 the reason I bought the PS3 and due to its terrible horrible AI sticked to a rail, I switched to xbox 360 and Forza motorsport 2, wasn't disapointed. After owning all the GT, prologues included, now I have all the Forza from 2 to 7 + Horizon 1 to 4... "Fun fact" I recently played again at GT5, at the moment I found it quite challenging and realistic, but going from FM7 with no assists, manual with clutch, etc.. to GT5 I found it stupidly easy, pass drifting all the AI... Ridiculous. Still have a huge love for Gran Turismo franchise, just hope than Forza put more realistic motorsport stuff (from GT for example) in their game. Can we expect a retro video of Forza as well? Thanks @viperconcept !
