When finding a place to live dont look at the cost of living. Whatever job you find around the area, you will match it, dont worry. Find a state or place that you feel comfortable in. This isn't hard. Dont move to a place because its cheap, it's a reason why its cheap. Move to a place you dream about.

They just keep printing more while not dealing with the housing crisis and supply shortage that causes the inflation! They walked us to war with Ukraine and put sanctions on the third top energy producers (Iran, Venezuela and Russia) tried putting price caps on Russian oil which alienated the OPEC. No uranium or fertilizer from Russia, so lower yields and more expensive food, fuel and transportation which will make everything more expensive!! I’m a Texan. I lived In Burbank,Ca for 19 years and moved back to Houston in 2021. Texas is very different than when I left it in the early 2000’s. Many people have moved to Texas making it congested in the city areas. The traffic has vastly increased in the last 2 years alone. People are coming here having sold homes In expensive places like California and are driving the prices of houses up. The congestion on roads and insane drivers who are often rude makes driving stressful. It didn’t used to be that way. Also the once friendly culture here is changing into a more impersonal one because a lot of non Texans don’t share the same friendly ways and are rushed and self absorbed. I’ve also noticed a lot of trash and litter along roadways and we didn’t used to have that. In the more rural areas the crime is lower and people are more laid back but the city isn’t.
@VIPRealty Жыл бұрын
Tons more traffic. I think prices are up everywhere, not just Texas. However, Texas is changing and changing fast. If you want to see / feel the old Texas you’ll need to head out toward the rural areas

The same thing is happening to Tennessee. A lot of California people and city people are moving here. They have money the locals don't have. They've driven the house and land prices through the roof. Many are trying to change the political landscape to the same miserable policies they were escaping from. Tennesseeans are getting less welcoming. We are overcrowded now and over a million acres of farmland have been sold and turned into subdivisions. Tennessee is changing. It is heartbreaking. Shame on Tennesseeans for selling off generational property.

Here at least some reasons that I can think of why people leave Texas: 1. The weather (particularly during the summer) 2. The traffic and terrible drivers particularly in the big cities like Dallas, Austin and Houston 3. The pollution of oil and gas companies (some Texans have breathing problems thanks to the pollution) 4. The rising cost of living in big cities (particularly Houston, Dallas and Austin). 5. The politics (if you are a Democrat or Independent who leans Democratic, prepare to be politically frustrated). I had a Democratic gay friend who is an accountant who lived in Texas for 7 years (summer of 2016- summer of 2023) and left for Colorado in June of 2023. The election in 2022 was his final straw. He no longer feels safe [particularly from gun violence] nor welcome [he knew a few people who picked on him for being gay or liberal {mostly the latter}] in Texas. He is now happy in Colorado.

So I have a friend that’s a realtor here and one thing he told me on why the houses are more expensive is since a lot of people moving here are paying over asking price for these houses and I’ve noticed it in my part of town in Houston. There’s a neighborhood here called Quail Valley. It an older upscale neighborhood dating back to the late 60s. Houses there ranged between 200k to about 350 max 7 years ago. I saw a house there that was for sale back then at 185k on the golf course. Just needed to be updated. House was sold and then put up for sale just recently. 400k. The house was still in the same condition. No updates at all. Yes it is Californians but it’s also people from Colorado, and the New England states where houses were and still is very expensive. The price you could get for a 1300 sqf house in Pennsylvania, or California could get you a very nice and large home here in Texas at one point. It caused a huge domino effect where houses that were once 200k are pulling 350k. My parents got the house before the price hike at 199k and now it’s valued at 310k. Only thing they did was replace the houses entire ac system. So honestly it sucks because the native Texans are getting priced out in areas they live, including the high taxes.

I am Puerto Rican and moved in 2001. I made Texas my home and I am financially in a good position, thanks to this state. When I moved with my wife, a friend told us, “in the Metroplex, you shop and eat, that’s it”. Boy, she was right. I have hated a few things about Texas for 23 years. First, no mountains and nice beaches like my island. Second, no public land, everything is private property and sucks, so hiking is on designated areas. Third, the food now is more diversed, because Colombians, Puerto Ricans, Venezuelan’s have brought their food here, but before, it was Mexican food, burgers and steaks. The nicest thing is the opportunities and cost of living. Another thing I hate is that take to damn long to leave the state in a car, Texas is too big boring when you drive around.

Even though I don't like Dallas, I do like a cute city in northern Dallas surburb called Frisco. Frisco has excellent school system with (1:14) teach/student ratio. Frisco has so many things to do ( lots of events such as sports, country music awards etc.). It has a big city look ( tall buildings) with country style living close-by. It is a very diversify city like most Caliofornia cities. It has PGA American headquarter, universal studio, Dallas Cowboy headquarter and more. This is unusual as I typically by three years am fully integrated into my surroundings. Texas is different.#1 I am still highly frustrated with the drivers. They are so distracted. They can't handle a 4 way stop or even go when the light turns green. People driving huge trucks think they own the road......and I guess they do. Beware uninsured motorists. Better have insurance because most of the other people on the road do not. #2 no police presence. There are beggars on every street corner. People run red lights like they don't exist. People on their cell phones while driving.Violent crime is unbelievable. Every day on the news multiple people shot. I can hear gunshots at night. #3 Un reliable utilities. In three years I have been out of electricity more days then the last 35years in 4 different states. If you want reliable AC, CABLE TV, INTERNET .......do not move to Texas you will not get it here. When a leaf falls, the electricity goes out and it's out for days. #4 The cost of living is high or just as high as other places and they have terrible groceries. Produce sucks, cost of groceries is not great. I know everyone loves HEB but they obviously have not shopped a lot of different places.

Living in California and wouldn’t want to leave if it wasn’t so expensive and near impossible to own a house with decent sized yard! Texas is attractive for affordable homes with big yards, lower cost of living, no state tax (but higher property tax) and good economy. The house I’m looking for is probably in Texas, because in California you ain’t getting and acre of land unless you go to steep mountains or far away places where there no jobs!! The whole hosing cost to income ratio in the US is out of whack right now! We need at least 50% drop to make it realistic! Politicians are bickering over nonsense instead of addressing real problems the populace are facing. Rising cost of living, stagnant wages, degrading job quality, de-dollarization, division and disunity, increasing wealth gap and shrinking middle class!

Most of the beaches have to close from time to time because of the nasty ass water. And all you tourists that go to San Diego and visit Mission Bay, stay the F out of the water!!!! My Theory: I think most people moving to Texas nowadays are younger people And even families and retirees. But most, especially the highly mobile young crowd will be gone in the next 5-10 years simply due to how spaced out everything is, the unpredictable weather, scorching hot summers, our lax gun laws, right wing politics (also good) , and eventually Rising housing costs (which already effects us natives). Horrible state to live in. Traffic, bad drivers, low wages, heat and humidity will make you feel you live in hell. Moving here from PA was the biggest mistake I made for my family. If you need to fix your car it’s so much more expensive than in PA. Groceries are more expensive, baby stuff is crazy expensive. People don’t talk about how ridiculous and shitty your life becomes during hurricane season. Lost power and been without power for 13 days. Car insurance premiums go waaay high when you move here. Yes gas is cheaper but guess what, turn on your ac and you’ll fill that tank every 2 days. Shy high electric bills. My job in PA paid me $24. Here for the same position they offered $13. Wtf?! Your kids cannot play outside because it’s incredibly hot unless you want them to have a heatstroke. The fleas, the cockroaches the snakes the ants. Eating out? Forget about it. Just for salad you pay $13. I hear people saying, oh I love the heat. I don’t see them outside in the heat. They hide inside where it’s cool. Shooting drills in schools. My kid keeps talking about hiding because he was taught he needs to hide. He’s very little and he doesn’t understand it . A lot of people on government help. Everywhere you look there are apartment buildings . Why? Because buying a home is a long forgotten dream. Soooo sooo many cars on the roads. Rush hour even on Saturdays. Do you want to laugh about things and stop being so freaked out and polarize there’s a lot of comedians here that will help you.

Is Texas perfect ? Certainly not, but if you want more personal freedom to build a business and / or invest in real estate you are unlikely to find a better place. Personally, I'll make my money in Texas and travel to the Caribbean for a break. Houston is hot and humid in Spring, Summer and Fall...but we get about 4-5 days of good cool weather a year between December 15th to about January 15th - that is enough for me for now.

Texas imo is the best overall state in the country.

DFW, San Antonio, etc are definitely flat. They might have some hills. However, there aren't any mountains

@@VIPRealty Really?Oklahoma is the 3rd most popular state that Texans are moving to. Way less people/traffic/congestion. Lower housing prices and cost of living. I've lived in LA since '78. This place isn't the same today, not by a long shot. And median home prices here are heading towards $900K. This is insane! Crazy gas prices. Homeless encampments popping up everywhere. For people that aren't wealthy, just having good weather isn't cutting it anymore. It's such ashame. What a great place it used to be. Me and my wife are going to check out Oklahoma at the end of this summer. "According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 26,440 Texans moved to Oklahoma in 2022, making it the third most popular state for Texans to relocate to that year."

@@18andlikeit I don't know about those stats. OK would be one of the last states I'd move to for quality of life. I agree, its not expensive. However for me there are more items on my list besides cost.
