Therefore made being LGBTQ a taboo and something dirty. Quoting 377 verbatim doesnt change the fact that it worked as a deterrent towards a gay person coming out, resulted in blackmail, misuse by the cops. As the law made a very important part of existence illegal. It indirectly made being gay also illegal.

Homosexuality is not criminalized in India any more. This seems like an older clip. Section 377 of the law criminalizing 'non-natural' sex was British law and hangover of it. British prudishness brought this criminalizing to India. Before that, yes, same sex was looked down upon but not criminalized. In fact, India is a land of Kamasutra. About 4000 years ago, first book on SEX was written by Vatsyayana in India. And ancient Indian culture was very progressive and open. Gays, Lesbians and all. Anyone who says no, should read ancient Indian history and mythology. It's time we get over this hypocrisy and colonial insecurities. We're better than this. Anyone should be able to love anyone, without any harm. Free love.

True. We never had any kind of discrimination against LGBT in our entire history. That anti-gay law was a residue of colonization and it had been decriminalized. There is even a sculpture in Khajuraho that depicts homosexuality. And this is not just about blame shifting. Each and every empire has it's own pros and cons. When it comes to our culture, rather than men/women physicality, we gave importance to the masculine/feminine qualities that are available in both genders. And BTW, I am straight.

Making gay marriage legal is fraught with a lot of legal tangles. I am not even talking about social acceptance. That is a whole new ball game One, you would have to create a whole new marriage act cos most marriage acts refer to heterosexual marriages. Two, a marriage also brings in children, inheritance, divorce, domestic abuse etc. Third it is the legislature that has to make the laws. It is not the work of the Supreme Court. The courts only interpret and uphold existing laws.

Comedy is the toughest genre. And talking about Jim Carrey, watch "Dark Crimes", he has a serious role in it. I didn't like it but its only my personal opinion. Whereas, Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind is one of my very favorite movies. Both Jim and Kate were brilliant in it.

I don't think Gay Marriage was ever criminalised. Just not legally recognised. You could get married to someone of your own sex but could not get any of the rights and benefits a married couple gets and you could not have sex. Basically, "Nobody's stopping you but, we are going to make it a pointless exercise."

These medieval laws were imposed in India by British. In Ancient India Oral and Anal sex were practiced and so was homosexuality ( Refer to Kamasutra if you don’t believe ). I am a lawyer by profession btw and I always support abolishment of sec 377.

It has been legalised now (no more questions will be raised 'legally'). but yes it was considered illegal earlier quoting this as an abnormal and unhealthy activity induldged into by emotionally unhealthy ones (probably due to unhealthy social surroundings or life experiences). The other quote added by IMA that "unnatural ways of sexual activities are disease prone". It is not wrong if the government shows some strictness towards such practices and it is their duty to take steps to keep society healthy, but at the same time they should also mind to take steps to control population explosion, pollution, wastage of natural resources and many more basic social issues which are going critical and alarming.
