When Shekar Spoke about 1962' he specifically mentioned that "we lost war due to bad leadership including the Army Chief". Karan Thappar might not like this comment made on his Father. He never speaks about the 1962 War and his Father's role in it.

You should see Karan Thapar interview Jairam Ramesh on the release of his book on Krishna Menon. He does not identify his Dad but is quite objective in assialing Nehru and the generals in general, including BM Kaul for the poor execution of the war in 1962 qwth Chiina.

I am a scientist at a leading corporation in USA. I can state that the South Pole Moon landing of India is a great achievement. It is made possible by the government support of ISRO. For a country as poor as India, it is a great feat. It should not be belittled by these "great scholars ".

Mr. Sanghvi is an "unofficial" spokesperson for the grand old party and its family. honestly, I grew up listening to so many of them, extol virtues of the party/family, that it's hard for me to even trust their words, even when they speak truth (which they do sometimes). You know what, it's time for such "veteran" media retire, just like every other professional retires. their time is over. no one takes their words seriously anymore. Only reason, this is coming now is because of 2024 election. One can expect same in 2028 as well and so on. Time for such "experts" to influence opinion, bring up leaders, change governments are long long gone and they are only prolonging their eventual oblivion

Look at this statement made by Vir, "Govt Machinery decided to make him (Sanjay Gandhi) a crown prince." Indira Gandhi decided to crown him successor, Congress party sycophancy kicks in full gear but yet it is the Govt Machinery that is blamed by the sycophant. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is what you call a sycophant's smooth talk.

For one thing it's unjust to judge any person for one statement in a long conversation of 1 hr 46 mins without context. If you put it in proper context, he meant that the government machinery was used to crown indira's son as the de facto leader' Anyways his opposition to indira and her dictatorial tendencies is well known.
@libshastra
@libshastra Жыл бұрын
@@learningislife212 Sure, you have a point about context but it wasn't the Govt Machinery that was engaged in propping up Sanjay Gandhi. It was party machinery and ecosystem that was propping up Sanjay Gandhi. Congress goons went around harassing journalists, making them "disappear", buying out editorials etc. So even in context, his statement was factually wrong.

Great to watch Mr. Singhvi along with Shekhar Gupta. Shekhar's opinion about Musarraf is true to great extent. He was overambitious and started Kargil war with India just to become cheaply popular and finally to be President. In the leadership of Shekhar Gupta The Print has become an example of objective jounalism in the time of highly polarised media.

Always such a pleasure listening to Gupta Sir. I am glad that he took names when asked about best/worst, and didn't sit on the fence, trying to avoid trouble. Initially, when I saw how long the video is, I thought, I am not going to watch such a long video... but then once I started, it went like a breeze. The good thing about YT is that you can increase the speed. I generally watch/listen at 1.5X. Hopefully, ThePrint got a lot of new subscribers and funding isn't a problem anymore. The fantastic reporters and support team of ThePrint deserve to be well compensated for the great work they do.

Even though this is a cute convo between 2 old uncles ranting about the present, a keen observer would clearly see how SG confidently passes off total BS as facts. For ex. he confidently says that India being the richest country in the 7th century is "whatsapp history" while this is a well acknowledged fact and actual calculations for this have been made by Angus Madisson and team for OECD.

SG and print are not neutral as you claim. It was made clear in this talk. And it is also proven through the multitude of anti RSS/BJP articles that the print publishes and then endorsed by SG through Twitter. If you were truly neutral then there's the opportunity to also publish articles describing why India remained a poor country for decades despite abundance of natural and human resources and a winter free climate. You don't describe why it took BJP to build toilets for crores of people. You don't describe why it took nitin gadkari to build some basic roads SG mentions so many intellectual articles he wrote. Can he mention a few articles about why India and crores of Indians remain hungry and poor? Who is primarily responsible for it? What did India or Indians lack ? You don't describe why it took modi to.remind our.people to keep our environment and neighborhoods free from litter It's very clear you are not neutral or centrist. It's obvious you have something to lose if BJP remains in power. Please don't fool people with this facade of centricity if you believe what you yourself say about the intellect of your audience

In addition, you got a wonderful sense of all his accomplishments in journalism. Having seen his CTC episodes through the pandemic, I guessed his choice of worst PM (VP Singh), worst general (BM Kaul), strong PMs etc. He and I (and Veer) all were born in 1957 so I feel like a contemprary of his and Veer. I have been critical of SG on some topics in the past taht you can tell he is not comfortable, but when SG is on his turf, he is simply one of the best!

Definitely going to subscribe but I want to see credible next layer of people likes of Sekhar Gupta doing stories and proving their worth as also getting guidance and mentoring.. so that good journalism is still valued. Also, I notice that south in general is getting relegated, sidelined, marginalized slowly in the national overall coverage to everything, Hindi chauvinists want to dominate things..this is not a good thing and people in leadership should be conscious and do things that make it a fair representation of whole country..

Pranoy Roy, Appan Menon, Vinod Dua, etc. along with The Hindu people were inclined more towards left in comparison with the Arun poori, Shekar, etc. who were considered somewhat centrists during the Rajiv Gandhi and Narasimha Rao's period. Later all of these people merged into one single big group during Vajpayee's times. Later some of these people were unnecessarily became agents of the Anti India campaigns - like Pranoy, Barkha, Rajdeep, Karan, and so on. Now many of these (some are journalists and some are agents) people have lost their respect even among intellectual audiences in India. Shekar Gupta somehow corrected the course and became once again moving towards the Centrist. Therefore SG's Cut the Clutter is surprisingly in the center.

Dynasties - the extent to which we find in India, are possible because of the ticket system. That is one of the main reasons. The rich and connected reward each other. The tribal - jaat, caste, biradari, clan, mentality is another factor. The electorate - the majority, are apathetic and think it is someone else’s responsibility. The net result is that these dynasties have extracted billions for themselves.

An engrossing conversation between two most respected senior journalists! Most enjoyable. Thank you both. It however throws up a conundrum which has been bothering me lately. Do our political netas, from councillors, legislative assembly members to parliamentarians, through our long political history show any of the leadership attributes/traits/characteristics as classically defined? Barring a few, how many have important leadership traits like integrity, courage, initiative, leading by example, knowledge, compassion, sense of humour...the list is long? We know how most are elected through caste dynamics, social engineering, dynasic connections etc. Should they therefore be called leaders at all? Would it not be more prudent to call them 'people's representatives', 'legislators', 'sevaks' or by any other suitable epithet? Would appreciate a response from either of you. Thanks and regards

Got to watch the entire conversation now. I have a question for both of you - India without Modi and BJP without Modi? Since Shekhar finds Modi one of the smartest politicians India has ever had. This would be his last term. Post Modi how would BJP as a party perform? Be it anything this party can't take a decision without Modi. Or it's too difficult to predict anything in politics?

This is an excellent interview. Most enjoyable and informative based on real life experiences of this veteran journalist, Shekhar Gupta

As long as Indians are swayed by charisma rather than content; there's bound to be trouble.

The conversation being done in Benguluru because of the narrative set forth in this interview looks like …..hope Deepika Padukone and Prakash Raj are in the front row ! Hopefully , Mr. Shekar Gupta didn’t forget the king Bharatha !

Bharat is not a Pakistani nomenclature nor is it a BJP given name to India that's celebrated, our constitution literally starts with the sentance, 'india that is bharat....' , as a senior journalist I think your logic was pretty flawed there !

Just as I saw Vir Sanghvi, that tape of nira radia and him started playing in the back of my head. I didnt know that he is still around in the media circle, its just like A. Raja's return in parliament, well what to expect from a country where more than half of the people do not care about such issues, as they have bigger concern of not to die with hunger and other half tend to forget so quickly. Im not going to say anything on our judicial system😑

Yes, by American standards of achievement, our moon success has come quite late. But here is the difference between US' and India's space mission. One, Nasa was built by scientists from Nazi Germany led by Wernher von Braun. This happened as soon as world war 2 ended under "Operation Paperclip," It is a well known fact that the entire moon mission was conceived and built by Braun and his German colleagues and American's off course. India's mission was built and executed by Indians, born in India and educated and trained in India. Two, I know this sounds a bit silly, but America's moon mission came nearly two centuries after becoming free, India's in less than eight decades after our Independence. Three, America was already a superpower when it sent a moon mission. India is still not. The financial might is not even remotely comparable. GDP wise, America is five times as big as India and per capita is around 25x more than India's. So, please give India a little more credit please.
