. Chimera is a file-infecting virus for Windows 9x (notably 95) that at least from what I can find has little information on it and what exactly it does. However it will leave a system non-functional right from the start when first run... It primarily infects .EXE and .DLL files but it has shown to infect some other types used by programs (such as .OCX) when they are accessed in any way. Notably it will go after the IFRMGR.VXD and other key files of Windows at first launch rendering the system unbootable depending on the infection (it will either fail to boot with a "Windows Protection Error" or will crash/halt on first load of Windows sometimes with a BSOD relating to the IFSMGR). If you're able to get into Safe Mode you may not get far either as any program infected by Chimera will cause a crash resulting in the system restarting. Chimera does not appear to harm any personal files that are used by programs so you may be able to recover files through MS-DOS mode.
*This video shows FileChecker, which is a file-monitoring program I've been testing with this virus on WIndows 95 as the TinyWatcher I like to normally use does not support the 95 kernel.
