@@carlspackler91 Nonsense. They absolutely do. Why do you think they know to herd the ducks into the hula hoop, for example??
@carlspackler91 Жыл бұрын
@Anti - Ethnic Cleansing OK I'll give you they may need a bit of direction so they know what the final target may be, but the actual act of herding and direction is instinct to them at this point in their evolution.
@anti-ethniccleansing465 Жыл бұрын
@@carlspackler91 It isn’t natural instinct for a huge majority of these dogs… They have to be trained to do it no matter what and draw it out of them. They do have the intelligence to do so, but they still need to be trained. That is the reason for the whistles the entire time! If they simply knew where to heard the ducks into, there wouldn’t be a need to be whistling at them the whole dampng time. Moreover, I think that this is a disturbing use of animals, because those ducks were absolutely terrified and thought that they were going to be pounced on and eaten at any moment. This is so wrong.
@carlspackler91 Жыл бұрын
@Anti - Ethnic Cleansing I see. It's all very clear to me who I'm dealing with now. I'd love to stay and discuss the finer points of "animal mistreatment" but I have a 2 hour trip ahead of me to get my dog's ears cropped. @carlspackler915 жыл бұрын
No teaching necessary. They already know how to to do it. They just need a target area.
@suep94455 жыл бұрын
Their herding behavior is instinctive. I had 7 border collie-lab mix dogs (littermates). Had cows for neighbors.. I never worked those pups, and at about 10 months old I looked out the window to see that they had gotten out of their enclosure, had rounded up the neighbors & were heading them out.... When I was giving away some of them, a single mom with toddler twins was interested. While we talked one of the pups kept a close eye on the twins and didn't let them wander off the half acre we were on. It's an amazing instinctive behavior - and often a rancher will have an older dog help to teach a new younger dog. My dogs were demonstrating raw instinct. A working dog does follow commands, or is given a target & let them do their job.
@mariagricius89945 жыл бұрын
Did you hear the whistling in the background? Each type of whistle is a command. Watch and listen when the dogs hear a certain whistle which means to, "lay down". You' ll get the picture. Dogs don't need to be trained by human language. It can by by other means...looks, gestures, and other sounds.
@suep94455 жыл бұрын
@@mariagricius8994 I read about a rancher who had to work one dog out of earshot, so he put a collar on him with a radio, so the dog could hear his commands (he could see the dog, just too far away for any verbal or non-verbal command). So he saw that a car was on the road where the dog was to guide a herd of sheep across the road to the pasture on the other side.. He told the dog to approach the car, then said (through the radio) something like "please sir, would you mind staying where you are for a few minutes while I wrangle the sheep across the road?" The driver of the car was reportedly quite flummoxed, but stayed put until the sheep were all safely across. Gotta love it.
