I'm wanting to put an actual map on my video...that looks like the "sync" map in this video. Do you know how to add that? Basically I want the "track" to overlay on the map. I've been searching for days to find the solution and can't seem to find it.

Have you tried Relive? It creates a map automatically from Strava. I have made a couple of films explaining everything. Otherwise, there is a way of using Google Earth to create a map of your ride. I’ll have to make a film about that in the future.

Hi! In the video editing software I create a long enough green video (with nothing, just digital green background). Then I overlay the FIT or GPX data gauges over that green video and render out. That way I have all the telemetry I want as a video. Then in the video editing software (I use Davinci Resolve, but it is relevant to any other editing software) I key out the green and that way I have a perfect clean video of gauges overlay, which I can put over whatever video I want. So any angles you want, any footage you want :)

I race in multi-sport events where the bike segment is the second "leg". I turn on the GoPro Hero Session in transition. I had turned on the Garmin before the race began so it's ready to record. It takes several seconds to go from where the bike is racked in transition to the area where I need to mount onto the bike. Then I manually turn the Garmin into record mode with a press of a button. Now the issue: When I move the recorded speed graphic to the video, it automatically shows 9 mph while the bike is still on the rack! And as I'm running with the bike out of transition, the mph increases to 25 mph. If I can only run that fast...Anyway, there is no way I can use the recorded speed showing 0 mph in transition and syncing it up so that the mph starts to increase as soon as I start peddling in the saddle. Anyone figure this out?
@TheDanderer Жыл бұрын
Hi, did you ever get it to work if the video speed is faster than the gpx file? I'm recording in hyperlapse so it won't sync up!
@jollygoodvelo Жыл бұрын
Ah, that probably won’t work. You would be better off shooting normal speed, syncing the VIRB data overlay and then speeding up the video it produces later.

Good tutorial sir... thanks... question... do we have to repeat all the configurantions of gauges to all the clips? Is there any way to "clone" our chosen setup from one clip to another? Do we have to repeat the "sync procedure" for all the clips separately?

As far as I am aware, once you have set the gauges they are set for all the clips. The downside, though, is that you have to sync each clip separately.

There are so much confusion as to how to go about this thing. What happens if I stop shooting on my gopro to save battery and my bike computer(Bryton 530) is still on? It means, the Bike computer will continue reading while I temporarily stop recording, won't that be a problem when I press record again and the video and the computer/gps data don't longer sync? Secondly, I have a Bryton 530 bike computer. Can I use this to import data to Garmin Virb or everything has to be Garmin?
@jollygoodvelo6 жыл бұрын
Hi there Kay, Unfortunately, if you stop shooting on your GoPro there will be a gap in the VIRB edit. There is no way around this unless you make two separate clips and re-sync each one to the GPS data. As for the Bryon computer, I wold imagine that it produces a file that can be easily read by VIRB edit. If it doesn't, you can always download the correct file for the same ride from Strava. In short, your computer doesn't have to be a Garmin, nor does your camera have to be a GoPro. Hope that helps.

Hi Leonard! Thanks for the video, it is very helpful! I have an issue. There is *power data* from Stryd Power Meter in my FIT file, which I grab from phoenix 5s smartwatch, but I can not make Virb Edit detect this power data. It shows every bit of data such as speed, cadence, heart rate, velocity, tempo etc, but not power from the Stryd. What am I doing wrong?
@jollygoodvelo5 жыл бұрын
Hi Pavel, obviously it’s a little tricky for me to hazard a guess without looking at your set up but my guess is that the power data is not actually in the FIT file or it is embedded in such as way that VIRB can’t read it. Sorry I can’t help more. Good luck.

There is no need to do any rendering. It will play in the time line just fine and when you are happy with it you just export it to a video file.

Hey, Leonard. I have a problem. I am using my Windows for this editing program, and I followed every steps as you have shown us from the video. However, after all those G-Metrix, choosing the layout, and video editing. When I exported the video, I can see that the footage have chained all 3 clips together, but the layout did not show. Is there any step I missed? I am current using Virb Edit version 5.3.0.
@jollygoodvelo6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, I'm not sure I quite understand what problem you are having but if you have placed all three short clips in the time line then it will output one long clip of all three. If you only want a single clip then, perhaps, try only having one clip in the timeline. I'm sorry if this is a little vague but, as I say, its a bit difficult to know what is happening, especially as I can't see what you are doing. Good luck.

how to change mile to kilometer in your software
@nuttycommuter37185 жыл бұрын
Hi, I was just wondering if you can do Picture in Picture with the Garmin software? I'm going to be running front and rear VIRB cameras, properly synced and it would be great to get, for example, the front camera as the main picture with a smaller one showing the rear view. Great video though - will allow me to get started nicely.
@jollygoodvelo5 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm, that’s a good question. My initial thought is that it’s not possible., or at least not easily. I’ve sort of tried it myself a couple of times and it never worked to my satisfaction. The problem is when you try to sync the two video clips with each other: they have to be exact. And then you have to re-sync all of the Telemetry data for each clip again and again. It’s a faff. Good luck, though. If you do find an easy way I would love to hear it.
@nuttycommuter37185 жыл бұрын
You would expect (perhaps foolishly!) that if the two cameras are synced to record together, that the tracks would be synced. I'll have a try and see what happens. One way I have heard is to prepare a video like you have done (maybe for each of the front and rear), export it/them and then import the file(s) into iMovie. Apparently, iMovie can do PIP. I haven't done this myself so if I find a way, I'll report back. @@jollygoodvelo
@jollygoodvelo5 жыл бұрын
I was going to suggest something like this. All you would need to do is make the video for the main camera, making sure you leave a space for where you would like the PiP and then import that completed video into iMovie. Once in there, you can easily add the second video clip as a PiP. You don't need the telemetry data on the PIP as it is displayed in the main screen.
@nuttycommuter37185 жыл бұрын
I've had a quick play with iMovie and it does everything you want - PIP, sound effects, titles, split screens. I will most likely use the VIRB edit to get the telemetry graphics on and then do everything else in iMovie @@jollygoodvelo

One doubt, the data of external sensors ant + are recorded in the video file in the SD as if they were data g-metrix of the own camera or it is necessary to synchronize them in the garmin virb edit. If these values of power, cadence etc were recorded in the video without doing anything afterwards, I would be interested in buying it. in case of having to manually synchronize those values later, I would not consider purchasing. Help me, thanks Mostrar menos
@jollygoodvelo5 жыл бұрын
Hi David, if I have understood it you are asking me if you have to sync the sensor data with the video. Yes, you need to sync it. However, the VIRB edit software is completely free. If you have a GPS cycling computer and and an action camera you might as well give the software a try and see how you go.

Even so, I'm quite jealous on you guys because you find the GMetrix data Sync so easy and I don't know how to do that. Best regards, Remus
@jollygoodvelo6 жыл бұрын
Hi there Remus, unfortunately synching the GMetrix data can be very tricky, especially when you get it right it can sometimes look as if it is still wrong. Its not an exact science so as long as it is there or thereabouts it should be fine. How are you finding using the Gopro Hero 6? I'm thinking of upgrading to one but the Hero 5 also loos good and is much cheaper. I'm surprised you don't like the Quik app. I run it on my phone and I think its great.

I bought Virb 360 and coming from GoPro I expected besides gauges and G-metrics some functions which I find reasonable for action camera video edit software. And what a deception is Virb Edit.. no way to adjust exposure, saturation or even to replace audio from camera (which is all wind on motorcycle) with audio from external audio recorder. I tried to fool it by adding audio as music, but trimming the video trims only video and not added audio track, which stays the same length. 👎🏼 All in all, Virb Edit is just for adding gimmicks as g-metrics, and for any video edit in addition to 800 bucks for camera I have to spend another couple of hundreds for a programme that can do a basic editing of the videos. I mean... hey guys in Garmin!!!... I do not need a rocket science hyper programme like Adobe Premiere I have to spend couple of months to learn the basics.... but just a decent copy WYSIWYG programme like Gopro Studio..
@jollygoodvelo6 жыл бұрын
+Cyber Gasty As far as I'm aware the VIRB 360 is the camera so all it does is record the data. The free VIRB software adds the gauges so you would be limited to what that has rather than the camera. VIRB is great but it can be a little fiddly. Good luck.
