You can wait until check in opens to reserve your seat for free. We did.

I'm going on virign atlantic in October. I've googled everywhere. Everyone is stating you can have a small back pack or purse as your personal item. As long as it can fit under the chair.

​@@OFP-Flashpointby the looks more legroom, 2 USBs, probably served food & drink before Economy and the screens look more modern than those in Economy. I suspect for a small increase in price for long haul it's probably definitely worth it for the legroom alone
