@@tinydancer7343 I really don't think he's on anything at all. He's very articulate and seems clear-headed in this interview. It's so frustrating to me watching interviews of him clean where people have to continuously insist that he's still on something. Nothing personal, it just seems like you're mocking his progress by holding onto this idea of him as a cliche "drugged out rockstar". He's so much more.
@its_ambs
@its_ambs 5 жыл бұрын
@@cierra7246 I completely agree with you it frustrates me as well. Like on one video you could clearly see he was concentrating on giving an answer and wording it properly and everyone was like "he's back on the drugs again!" when it fact he was probably being careful what he was saying after the incidents where his comments were taken completely out of context and took the wrong way
@avedic
@avedic 4 жыл бұрын
Gah....isn't it pretty obvious by now that not all drugs are equal? Weed is WAAAY less dangerous than pretty much every other drug out there. Hell, even cocaine is safer than alcohol or cigarettes....the two things we legally "allow" people to use at whim. In short....our drug laws(certainly in the US) are fucking insane. It's almost like it's literally the polar opposite of how it should be.

this interview made me feel so appreciated as a devoted fan of the band. It kind of confirmed my full understanding of who the 1975 is and what this all means. The 1975 is more than just a band, it's a movement, a project, a story. The 1975 is a community of ideals and art and just a celebration of humanity. I cannot thank my 14 year old self enough for falling down the rabbit hole of the 1975. I'm almost 20 and still just as intrigued and intersested. Learning that and growing out of that. I’ve found that the world outside myself is now evil. I’ve achieved my dreams somewhat. And life was good. Losing my two most important women in my life was the kicker. I come back to this thinking i can overcome. We are now in January. I survived 2023, just. Stopping myself. NYE 2023. That last bit about I Always Wanna Die - "if you asked someone if they wanna kill themselves? they'd say no. but ask them if life has ever got too much that if there was a switch would you turn it all off?" made me tear up so much and i had to catch my breath. So fucking raw. Depression and stress and dealing with life is around us all at one point or another and we're all in this together. we're all here for each other. we all know. I've definitely wanted to work or volunteer for mental health charities, and especially in depression/suicide but also addiction because it's all so important to me. Matty talks like how i talk when i go for interviews. when i’m nervous and my thoughts are everywhere, i cant find the right words to say and i can’t phrase my sentences properly. like i need time to think about everything to properly put it in sentences.

Tigris 797 i think he’s definitely concerned with wording things to the fullest extent he can and trying to find meaning with everything and anything he can. he’s such a complex human being he can barely even finish a thought without continuing the next one- he has so much he wants to say because he just never stops thinking.

Just this one substantive interview with Matty can replace a thousand radio station or festival interviews. Eddy Temple-Morris being a new fan having just discovered the band-had this giddiness that all The 1975 fans can relate to-very endearing.

I liked Chocolate when it first came out but it wasn't until the middle of 2016 when I heard The Sound that I actually sat down and listened to both albums and loooved it. But I went and saw them at The Forum in LA in Oct 2016 that I was like oh, this is my favorite band. And they still are.

I’m trying to recall two people bonding in an interview this way...where it stops being an interview free of motives and becomes earnest sharing. I bet Matty walked away feeling really connected, and fulfilled musically as well. So cool.

the intro track serves the same purpose as the long intro to star wars- it's like gearing you up to enter the mindstate of what you're about to get into; it's also familiar

I feel like I've come away from this interview knowing Matty much better than I did before. Before "A Brief Inquiry" Matty's honesty in his music always seemed to be juxtaposed with his secrecy in life; in his relationships, the meanings behind some of his more personal songs, and even his day to day routine. It always felt like he was keeping secrets from the fans. But he really laid himself and his thought process bare in this interview and I'm so grateful for it. I'm so grateful that Matty, George, Ross, and Adam decided to make an album that accurately reflected what it's like to be an artist, a fan, and a human in general. This band, and Matty himself, are truly something special.

Their music has gotten me through many moments in life, following them for 6 years now. I treated myself to front row tickets to their show in New York in early July. Listening to this 54 minute breakdown of all of the work put into their recent album and their sources of inspiration humbles me and is pumping me up for one of the greatest nights I'll have 💖 Whether or not you favor their style of music, you cannot deny the raw emotion drawn/demanded from their music ( the only true objective of any art form)
