I love how despite all his grandiose statements and ideas, the real foundation of all of Matty's creativity seem to stem from his deep connection to his bandmates and he constantly admits to this. They seem like such an awesome model for a modern band and that's probably why they just keep producing amazing albums!

@@kathrynmartin2983 Matty seems to really love what he is doing. It’s pretty obvious his obnoxious stuff is an act but the press falls for it. At the same time, we all have an obnoxious side we don’t really show to people. I know that I like to yell obscene sexual things at movies, usually horror movies but I got that from past girlfriends. It’s not something I really want to control. We all have that part of us. Overall they give so much to fans. As a gen Xer it’s also been a long time since a band had such a sense of style. Everything they do is so well thought out and smart.

The comment about not wanting to price kids out of tickets sums The 1975 up. Despite all their success, they've managed to maintain the heart of why they make music and it's why fans have stuck around for 10 years. They get it.

When I bought my tickets for australia I was shocked at the cheap price. I’d just looked at tickets for the same venue for smaller artists and the tickets were like double the price as the 1975 tickets. It made me so happy to see that they cared about accessibility for all to come see their show.

i guess its just as they move to bigger venues, the price climbs up to be able to reap some cost back for the amount they probably spend on production costs. but at least they arent charging prices like the Elton John's, Billy Joel's of the world who are charging £100+ for a ticket. but i remember going to see The 1975 when they charged 15 quid, and then a while later it climbed to £30+, and then this last show where they are now playing arena's it was like £46.50, so its steadily climbing up but also a lot of the charges are put on top from Ticketmaster which starts to make it seem extortionate for some gigs.

genuinely, matty healy is one of the greatest living artists of our time. i've been a fan of the band for a decade now, and watching their growth as artists has been such a privelege. i saw the current show a few times, and the questions he encourages his audience to ask both of themselves and of the world/media/culture are revolutionary. the tour itself is revolutionary. it's frustrating to watch people mischaracterize him so much, but i think it's also because people are so used to artists who are too scared to make any real statements with their work. but what is the point of art if you're not pushing culture forward?

“We made money to make music. We didn’t make music to make money.” That was so insightful to me and is likely the factor of why some bands/musicians have longevity and multiple successful works and why some bands don’t. The 1975 will always be, at their core, a group of boys who loved music so much they just never stopped.

I so enjoyed listening to Matty's sincerity here. So refreshing to listen to a young pop star be so open about his real feelings and thoughts, not trying to win popularity, or shy to speak his passion for music, especially when he brings up when something bigger than the artist takes over and a song transcends the listener to feel something they needed brought out. So free and articulate. He gives his points of view openly, one can disagree, which makes opportunity for good discussion.

hands down one of my favourite matty interviews. sincerity was a big chunk of their conversation and it showed both ways. Tom ( i hope im getting the name right) going “what?” when matty stopped halfway through finishing his thought won me over so so quick. need more of these.

Actually I want to elaborate. I also really respect that you let him speak. You didn’t cut him off to get out what you wanted to ask. You let his thoughts and statements be the star. And you guys discussed some really interesting stuff. This was actually my favorite interview of Matty ever.

It's so amazing and satisfying to feel an affection for a person when they were younger and finding out later they have developed into the truly fabulous person their early potential hunted at. Thank you for conducting the interview that allowed Matty to show that.

I truly love listening to how their music has evolved & how they create. I love listening to Matty - too bad people outside of most 75 fans never see this side of the band/Matty outside of little viral soundbites.

God, what a fucking incredible interview. Literally sobbing at the discussion of music being the closest thing to have to religion. Matty is very articulate and speaks so eloquently. It's difficult to make sense of it all since his vocabulary is really something but it's engrossing, inspiring and very attractive. He's self-aware enough to say 'I sound pretentious', for those who may misunderstand his intent, but I personally don't see any pretentiousness. He's fuelled by passion and it's rare to see. He is even more attractive to me after listening to this.

It’s crazy how Matty said, “We’ve become defined by what we don’t like…we used to be defined by what we loved,” and on the last track of Taylor Swift’s album Lover, she says, “I want to be defined by the things I love…” 🤯

as a fan I truly feel like the 1975’s music is unearthed. i get what hes saying, and he will never get that element of what we view their music as (because he’s the creator and not simply a fan)- how powerful and sentimental their music and art became and what it emotionally holds over millions of fans across the world and the mark it has in our lives. He knows we soundtracked (and soundtrack) our lives to it…as he said before. it is just incredibly unbelievable that its all real. he should be so proud! incredible interview.

I am a very new The 1975 fan and I will admit it’s because of Taylor and TTPD. I have so much respect for Matty after watching this interview. He’s very intelligent, articulate, funny and relatable. I can 100% see why she was in love with him for so long (and maybe still is? 🫣) Also the interviewer did a great job at letting him be himself and just chat. It felt like a genuine conversation rather than a “I have to do this to promote the album”.

I can totally see why she fell so hard for someone who loves music as much as she does-he’s been in a band since he was 13. He has an interesting look, too-puppy dog eyes, curly hair, full lips-there’s a certain charm there. The loss of her life. 😞

What a lovely chat you guys had. So laid back and chill, just bouncing thoughts off each other while going a little deeper into what makes Matty tick. I adore this man and the boys, I already know I’ll be an old man with joint pain one day and still vibe to their songs religiously, feeling thankful that they existed at the same moment in time as me.

man, i'm so thankful how careful they are in how they present their band and thinking carefully what they should and should not participate in as a band. Also, the cashgrab bit? i respect that so much. i've always wanted to go to a band not having to think if i can pay off my next bill so him making sure the tickets are in a certain bracket is truly something, we his fans appreciate it. if all artists thinks like this then by god, music would be more transcendent than it is nowadays.
