Take a look at the 1/2 inch scale (2.3inch gauge) models of Virginia And Truckee locomotives in by George L Richardson. Starting in 1957 he planed and built two locomotives. They came out so well he built two more and continued building until his death, finishing 16 of the locomotives from this fabled railroad.

Always loved going to the Carson City Museum as a kid in the early 70’s. My Dad was a train nut and model railroader. I’m so happy to see so many restorations but sad I could not share them with my Dad.

The American 4-4-0 Inyo will always hold a special place in my heart after being re branded as 'Texas' for Walt Disney;s 1956 film 'The Great Locomotive Chase'. I'm always happy for old steam locomotives to find new life in TV and cinema, not only extending their livelihoods from either becoming scrap or static displays but also bringing their public image to the masses.

I agree, in fact, I've recently helped Larry Jensen(author of "The Movie Railroads") with a new book that just went to printer, it's called "Hollywood's Railroads volume one: Virginia & Truckee". It'll have an updated list of the V&T movies.

One thing I’m afraid needs correcting is that in the video you pointed out the model of the 25 to say that it was the first 25 and has subsequently been scrapped. The model is actually the 2nd 25, the prototype of which is still puttering around the museum grounds. The 1st 25 was an American style locomotive with a 4-4-0 wheel arrangement that ended up being too rigid for the V&T, and apparently broke too many rails for it to be worth it for Mr. Yerington. After immediately selling the first one, he went shopping for what became the 2nd 25, which was a coal-burned built for another railroad but never shipped to them. The V&T ran it for a short time on coal before converting it to oil along with the rest of the fleet.

Technically the 2nd and current Virginia & Truckee 25 was brought to the Virginia & Truckee Railroad right back then.

*Seven of the original Virginia & Truckee River RxR locomotives are still with us.* #11, 4-4-0 Baldwin Class 27-1/2, SerNo 2816, is at Tucson, AZ, USA, in rather sorry shape - she needs a whole new boiler and a whole new, Baldwin-correct cab consistent with #12 and #22 (her current cab is Schenectady-style, with no backrest for either engineer or fireman). #12, 4-4-0 Baldwin Class 27-1/2 SerNo 3090, is at Sacramento, CA, USA, on static display in as-delivered colors. #13, 2-6-0 Baldwin Class 8/26D SerNo 3091, is also at Sacramento in as-delivered colors. #18, a lightheavyweight 4-4-0 built for the V&TRR by the Central Pacific at Sacramento, is at Carson City, NV, USA, on static display. #20, 2-6-0 Baldwin Class 8/28D SerNo 3687, is at Strasburg, PA, USA, on static display in as-delivered colors. #21, 2-4-0 Baldwin Class 6/22C SerNo 3689, was re-cabbed in some overhaul (the original cab had three oval nameboards on each side) and is now on static display at Sacramento in the green/red scheme correct for the 1871 Baldwins. #22, 4-4-0 Baldwin Class 8/26C SerNo 3693, is operational at Carson City in a simplified maroon/gold scheme from an 1880's overhaul. The second #25, 4-6-0 Baldwin Class 29E SerNo 25016, is operational at Carson City. #27, 4-6-0 Baldwin Class 30E SerNo 39453, is at Carson City on static display. Incidentally, the fire pump on #21 was a Krombig model factory-installed by Baldwin based on a lesson learned the hard way with #9, 2-4-0 Baldwin Class 14-1/2 C 3 SerNo 2199 (scrapped 1941), the cause of a 26 May 1873 fire at the Mexican Mill Wood Yard, Samuel Longbaugh, Prop., Virginia City, NV, USA.

On the Nevada State Railroad Museum, a trivia note is that a fellow involved in its founding, Richard Datin, built models of the Enterprise for the original Star Trek. He also built studio models of the Petticoat Junction hotel and train. There is a book by his daughter, Nancy, (think that's her name) titled (I think) The Enterprise and the model maker.

I worked with Tom Barron who did the photography on all the remake star treks. Deep space 9. Voyager. All done with models and motion control cameras. Really fun and interesting. He had all the models in his shop. Most really big. Not as big as the monster from the original Star Trek which was about 10 feet long. The more modern cameras had better “depth of field” so they could use smaller models. The new Enterprise was about 3 feet long. But deep space 9 was about 5 feet tall!! Anyway cool!!!
@scottfw7169
@scottfw7169 5 жыл бұрын
@@ToyManTelevision That is cool. As it happens a 3 foot long Enterprise was the first model that Datin personally built for TOS. The larger model which now resides in Smithsonian was mostly built by other craftsmen, I guess you could say subcontracted, under his supervision. Right now I'm in a different city from where my copy of that book is, but I think the larger model was contracted to be 4x the size of the smaller one. Datin did have a hand in it, literally his hands in it, making modifications after the pilot episode and maybe later too. Book also mentions that he was a bit amused at the hard core rivet counter TOS modelers because if you want to strictly duplicate the 11 foot model the saucer was a bit out of round and the nacelles didn't exactly line up parallel.

Well there are brass locomotives available. Check eBay for locomotives in g scale, or f scale, or just large scale. They are sorta rare. Some run of steam. Most are electric. Some static but I guess about 90% are operating electric locomotives. Most will be more modern. But just keep searching eBay. They do come up. Here is one. Also check Accucraft locomotives website. www.ebay.com/itm/295079774769?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=npc5VyDaS3u&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=gzbSYu9JR0S&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Tyler Brown I buy it from SmartSound. Cool system for making music. Loads one bar at a time, you can edit it to any length, some even have "stems", witch is to say the brass, strings, drums are all on different tracks so you can take them out or remix. COOL.

Frys geyser any where you go in Nevada make a trip to a water source completely by accident. A dated accidental drilling a well that did not cap. So it has run for 40-50 years old. It has fish in the middle of a desert.

Half-inch is only twice the size of O gauge (quarter-inch). One little thing: put the word "cool" in your back pocket and leave it there, Puleeze. It gets very tiresome. Otherwise, very interesting videos. Good on yuh. (By-the-by: there are no railoads here in Canada. But we have the two longest railWAYS in the Americas.)
