You and High Prairie Sportsmen’s channel are my favorites. Realistic, you explain your logic in location and tactics, and THE BEST thing: you are there to enjoy nature and take it in slowly. Keep on trucking. And come to California!

Leroy is coming along nicely, you don't ever want to send him when hes crying or "squeaking" as they say across the pond, wait till he quiets down, a great thing to work on in training is denying him retrieves, maybe a third of them you make him stay, it works wonders, he will begin to realize that he doesn't always get the bird, ( sometimes you are hunting with other dogs... if you have ever seen British labs, there can be 4 of them sitting together at heel, while the hunter is blasting driven pheasants, and they are just sitting there relaxed as can be because they have been trained that if hey are the quietest, steadiest pup they get the retrieve,)he will be more chill when that is ingrained in him. also maybe you know , maybe you don't, "training never ends" you need to keep brushing up on the basics , keep he vids coming, maybe someday you'll cross paths with my old buddy Matt from "old Hat outdoors" who grew up hunting and guiding in MN, now lives in Boise area and putting out great hunting content
@HokeOutdoors
@HokeOutdoors 17 күн бұрын
I appreciate the advice! I mean't to keep up training throughout the season but between work and hunting I've definitely gotten a little lazy. I love Matt's videos as well, it was really cool to see him hunting Minnesota earlier this season! It's not very often that you see pacific flyway guys make the trek east!

Great hunt!! Are you in Southern Idaho? Seems like it should be frozen by now? Don't be so hard on yourself about Leroy, he's doing great!! All gun dogs have to get used to different conditions, each hunt is different. The key with Leroy is he is very disciplined and listens to your command. Can't wait to see how good he is once the puppy phase is behind him. Keep the hunts coming. God Bless!!
@HokeOutdoors
@HokeOutdoors 22 күн бұрын
Thanks Rick! It’s been a pretty warm winter over there but the area I was hunting tends to stay pretty mild throughout most of the season actually. They’ll freeze up for a bit but typically thaw back out pretty quickly as well. I appreciate it about Leroy as well! I’ve got a few things in mind for this offseason that should help him improve a lot on these hunts!
