Interesting... that hardly anybody was wearing masks 🤣 Great video! I'm waiting for your video on the sweets 😄
@BucketListTravellers3 жыл бұрын
Generally during the day we've found that a bit more than half of the people we've seen wear masks, and it's required for entry to a lot of shops and businesses. Unfortunately during festivals the mask wearing doesn't seem to be as widely adopted, which is definitely concerning. Glad you enjoyed the video! We're busy working on the sweets one, so hopefully that will be coming out next week 😀

So jealous. Born and raised in San Francisco with Nicaragua parents who immigrated to the US in the late 1940's. We celebrated every year in our homes and then in our churches. Not this year because of COVID 19. Quien Causa Tanta Alegria? La Concepcion de Maria

For being there during COVID, you two are going to basically have experienced so much about the country. Makes me wonder if that's the best way to travel. Spend 3-6-9 months in a country and do everything.
@BucketListTravellers3 жыл бұрын
You are right. We have experienced so much more about the country in our time here than what we ever would have seen in just passing through. It has really challenged our thinking about how we travel in the future. We will definitely spend more time in one place soaking up the culture.

Oh how much I loved "la Purisima"! When I lived in Matagalpa I went around with a friend of mine for 4.5 hours and we gathered a table full of goodies. I had the time of my life and it reminded me of the tradition we did growing up in the Rhineland region of Germany called "Schnörzen". I have to come back to Nicaragua soon

How sad to see my Nicaraguan people celebrating a pagan day. They should worship Jesus in their privacy, not something that was created for another man. So much biblical ignorance, should read the Bible and see that God prohibits to worship idols. God bless them and help them to open their spiritual eyes, and seek salvation.
@BucketListTravellers3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ana, Thanks for sharing your concerns. My grandparents were Christian missionaries and travelled to every inhabited continent preaching the word of Jesus, so I am uniquely positioned to offer a perspective here. Christianity has a long tradition of repurposing pagan traditions. Almost all Christian festivities have their roots in pagan rituals. For example Christmas was originally the pagan holiday of Saturnalia. Over time the meaning of customs change and the pagan origins are often forgotten. Different people express their faith in different ways, but what they share is their devotion to Jesus. In this instance, La Purisima is a celebration of the conception of Jesus. As it says in Matthew 20 "For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them." I hope this helps to alleviate your concerns.
