Think of this. He is the director of some of the best movies in the world with a networth of millions. If you’ve seen some other clips of him, he lives simply in a normal home, normal car, eats simple food and so forth. Does not wasting money equate to being a good person? No, but then you can question yourself; why is he making movies? This is what a real artist is like. He loves what he’s doing and he loves to inspire people to live your own life as we have seen in his movies. Hayao first got a degree in economics, to then working as an animator for 20 years before he became a director. Even then, he didn’t get successful for another 20 years. Don’t feel bad thinking back at ghibli movies. If anything, learn from his movies, get inspired by them. Even if you are not an artist, there’s always something you can learn from his movies. As Hayao once said: Being a director means to try and change the world for the better, although nothing changes. This for me is what a real artist, and human being is like.

Exactly. Its more shocking to see how many people in the comments section here think its cute and warm. It looks like a sweatshop. Im not trying to demonize Miyazaki and I get some sort of crunch is inevitable in animation, but people here are bending over backwards to defend this and say its normal or not that bad. FOH

I like to keep my eggs poached in the soup but you can always do it like in the video as a thickener. Alternatively, drop the egg in and just stir it around to get egg scraps floating around everywhere, adds more texture to the soup and makes it feel like you're getting something out of every sip.

Doing overtime with your colleagues crunching for a deadline, you're all exhausted but you're all in it together working to finish this important project... it's one of those things that is awful in the moment (though you don't dwell on it because you're busy working) but that you will have fond memories about once it's all said and done and there's some time between you and the pain. That could be true but maybe the only reason ghbili was able to come out with such high quality films every year at the time was because of the “burnout”. Ghibli isn’t a gigantic studio like Disney and they needed all the budget for the film. Seems dumb to assume they could’ve made a better film when ghibli literally makes the best animated movies In the world. But still I agree that it’s not a good thing for the workers.
