On a technical level VF4 is the superior game with better textures, defamation effects, and raw geometric detail. We have 7000 polygons (VF4) vs 2500-4000 for characters in T4. VF4 is compressioning 128 mbs worth of texture data down to 4MB of VRAM, and probably 16 MBs main ram using 4:1 software compression. T4 was built with the PS2 hardware in mind and not porting down from significantly more advanced hardware. So the textures are not as detailed. The lighting appears flat, and most arenas seem empty by comparison. However T4 has better art directions, and the arenas from a conceptional perspective are better designed around the PS2 limitations. Technically V4, artistically T4 is my conclusion.

@@marc3122 Thanks! I've been hoping for a VF4 remake or Sega releases a fighting game arcade classic on modern hardware as the PS2 couldn't really do VF4 justice. The PS2 version only looks good if you never played the arcade version. It's like comparing the PS2 version of RE4 to the Gamecube version. Looks close but you can see the cutbacks and PS2 games tend to have that damn shimmer across it;'s surfaces.

@DejaVoodooDoll I feel ya, art/style is subjective but the way Namco handled textures, and coloring is damn impressive. Tekken 4 pushes less polygons per character than DOA2 on the Dreamcast but subjectively it looks better due to art style.

@DejaVoodooDoll Late in the PS2 life cycle a extreme poly models took a back seat to special effects. High poly models will only get you so far plus it eats into memory as vertex buffers can get out of hand. Superior texture work can look just as good as high poly models if done right. Add in some volumetric effects, better shadows, and alpha blended makes it worth it. Hell modern hardware is not even judged by it's polygonal performance, it's more about bandwidth, and shader rate.

Both stone cold classics in my book. Tekken 4 gets such a hard time, yet I remember playing it for hours as a kid. I would even say I prefer more than 5. Its jus slightly behind 3 for me. VF4 evolution on the other hand was unreal too.

VF4 > T4. I don't say that lightly... but VF4 is why I bought the PS2 back in the day. They're both my favourite iterations of each franchise tbh. VF4 was just so immense when it released. The perfect VF. It was pretty sexy. But T4 with those dynamic and diverse environments, the grand return of Kazuya and the immense revision of Jin? Wow. That was powerful stuff too. I could wax lyrical about BOTH these all day, but for me, VF4 (& Evo)... JUST snip it. Tekken, however, is more accessible, great story and had more personality though. I'm also more likely able to go 2P vs with friends in T4 > VF4...

Nos primeiros anos do lançamento do PS2 que era um console bem robusto e impressionava todos eu fiquei pasmo, pois já haviam publicado numa revista que o port de Virtua fighter 4 sofreria muito devido as limitações do console. Como eu só havia visto o game por fotos, não tinha noção de como o era impressionante no ARCADE. A franquia sempre manteve uma jogabilidade precisa e todos os games tinham que rodar em 60 fps cravados, o Tekken só passou a utilizar essa estabilidade a partir do Tekken 6. O port de VF4 para PS2 é muito bom nesse ponto, pois mantem a excelente jogabilidade e o framerate, mas perde muito no visual, principalmente nas texturas comparado a versão Original. Tekken 4 leva essa, pois o visual era impressionante e os desenvolvedores usavam uma placa baseada no Hardware do PS2 (Então foi feito sob medida para console, já que era exclusivo), mas tinha muitas falhas devido a introdução dos cenários mais abertos e interativos (erro cometido pela SEGA no VF3). Assim logo a Namco correu atrás de lançar o Tekken 5 devidamente corrigido.

Well, one thing VF4 has on its favor is it's Item customization system in which you can unlock a good number of items, colors, and even stuff like a VF1 skin for all characters, and different wallpapers for the game's menu, VF4 was the first fighting game to have an item customization system along with player rankings and stats. The update VF4Evo adds even more items, adds a bunch of stuff to the training mode like tutorials, an encyclopedia of VF gameplay terms, challenges, etc. In VF4Evo you can also unlock a total of 36 stage variants for VS. And in the US version the game includes a remake of VF1 using VF4Evo's engine. There's also a new mode called Quest mode were you unlock stuff while you travel through many Japanese challenging A.I opponents based on Japanese players including top players, Quest mode actually has an ending but instead of a CGI cutscene you get a video montage about the Japanese VF community and their tournaments. Talking about VF players both VF4 and VF4Evo have high level play replays from Japanese players and some from the developers.

VF4 is the superior game. However, I do also love T4 even though it is the black sheep of the family. Graphically (since that's what this channel is about) VF4 has much better models but anti-aliasing issues. T4 is smooth but the models and even textures are simplistic in comparison. I do like T4's stages a bit more.

@@thesch2867 Sin considerar historia y aportes viendo cómo cada franquicia ejecutó sus ideas: Si lo comparamos pasa que Tekken es un juego que está diseñado más para ser divertido sin perder su lado técnico para jugadores más avanzados. Virtua Fighter en comparación a Tekken es más técnico, lo que lo hace más profundo que Tekken y una afirmación que puede hacer explotar el culo a muchos sus lamebotas. Considero relativo sobre cuál es legítimamente mejor, porque si bien puede ser mayoría que gustan de Tekken por ser más divertido, considero diferenciador el que Virtua Fighter sea más técnico, haciendo que dependiendo del tipo de jugador, prefiera jugar uno por sobre el otro.

Tekken 4 has better gameplay, great atmosphere in the stages that you can wonder, memorable music, has a story and you can unlock more characters. Virtua Fighter 4 has stiff controls, the stages are small since you're stuck in a square, no story and there's nothing to unlock.

MattDeRac Actually there's lots of customization items and colors to unlock and other stuff like new win poses and VF1 skins for all characters even the new ones, in fact VF4 was the first 3D fighting game have that kind of customization features along with Rankings in the next PS2 port VF4Evo there are even more items to unlock and a total of 36 stage variants in total once you unlock all the stages, VF4 and VF4Evo also include many high level play replay matches from Top players from Japan and some from the developers, not to mention the US version of VF4Evo includes a remake of VF1 using VF4Evo's engine. VF4 is full of content! Specially VF4Evo.

@@thesch2867 VF4 and 5 may have customization but it still lacks variety, most of the outfits in 4 and 5 mainly focus on accessories and only adding color swaps of their clothes, good thing they added every in 5 Final Showdown but I still think it still plays slow, but even if people ask for Virtua Fighter 6 I doubt they're gonna update something to make their game better, it'll be the same thing again with two new fighters, still no story, slow controls and Dural being the final boss again without any character endings except for VF Kids.

MattDeRac Honestly i would rather have a VF collection of arcade perfect ports instead of a VF6. If a VF6 ever happens i hope the gameplay isn't like FS which has slower animations, no crouch stagger, and streamlined movesets, FS is simplified VF. All the other VF games are a lot faster, i hope Yu Suzuki comes back for 6 because ever since he left the series hasn't innovated, it would be cool if he tried to revisit concepts from 3tb.

VF4 absolutely destroys Tekken 4. One of the very best VF games against one of the Tekken games a lot of people think is one of the worst. VF4 is a masterpiece: better graphics, deeper gameplay, more balanced, item customization, etc. and if you add in VF4 Evo then this is a complete blowout. Tekken 4 is mediocre and is an unbalanced mess of a game that tried to copy what VF3 had already done. Only Tekken fanboys can really sit here and say it was better than VF4, the highest rated PS2 fighting game of all time.

It's a little more complex because is true if you compare both games, Tekken is more flashy and a little more fun-oriented than Virtua Fighter without losing its technical part of course, but not any fighting game has to be incredibly deep to be fun which is one the mayor priority for any videogame, and that's one of the reasons why Tekken is more popular than Virtua Fighter, it was designed to be funnier to play without losing its complex for advanced players.

Esse Virtual Fighter 4 do PS2 eu achei bem horroroso. O jogo foi totalmente capado, por exemplo no Arcade cada personagem tem cerca de 11 a 12 mil polígonos, quanto no PS2 só tem 6 mil, poligonalmente pior que Doa 2 por exemplo. As Textura nem si fala. Eu prefiro o Tekken 4, ja é mais visado para o console, foi feito pensado no Hardware do PS2. Ja Virtual Fighter, ficou capado demais, por si tratar de um jogo do Hardware Naomi 2, praticamente tem 2 GPUS, vale praticamente 2 PS2 em termos de aceleramento gráfico.
