i think this is literally the best of two worlds we're getting a re-release of VF5 with all the modern features and a completely new VF game in the future, got super upset about VF5US but now they redeemed themselves, all thats left is to hope for eileen buffs

I'm so excited! This is a great time for all of you in the longstanding VF community to really grow exponentially if done right, that'll be exciting to see. According to the leak, I think a main focus is the online hub, and from the listing on Steam it definitely seems to be like they'll be testing more than just the netcode. I'm excited to see what they innovate in connecting people to each other and really improving the spectating experience to make it genuinely feel like the old arcades or offline locals. But in general I think it's brilliant that, rather than be subjected to the closed beta periods to test online functionality, this will allow them a free period to figure out the netcode, matchmaking, etc. According to that tweet, if they're really trying to make things easier/smoother, I wonder what that really means. What can really get easier? Execution things? And what old techniques could be returning? I think looking into the future, so long as movelists don't get massively pared down, the pacing stays fast, characters feel different, the stages still matter, and the RPS still lives I think things will be good. I wonder if they'll change/get rid of the weight system. If they add meter, I'd love if it was a seesaw mechanic that both players could affect rather than being two separate meters. Maybe they could take a Tetris type concept and give the ability to send "pressure" to them to make situations more difficult but still interactive. I really think this would be a great opportunity to have a little world tour for VF5REVO, have set places the community will be traveling to, and use it as an excuse to showcase VF6 there for a year leading into the new game. On the positive side for people worried about them changing up a ton, I feel like with the confidence of showcasing the past game right before, it's likely the next one is inheriting its identity, and the vast majority if not all the characters are returning. Just so happy to finally have VF properly on PC. Would love to see a VI teaser at TGA!

@@TrickyEileen In the listing you read off from Steam, it says "...new online modes including Tournaments and League," which aligns with being a testing ground for the focus on the online that was said to be for the new VF game from the leak. In that they said "Streaming and spectating implementation is an important part of this title and Super Game concept... It is a title releasing on all major platforms with crossplay and rollback... And there is an evolution of ranked matches that is similar to modern fighting games. This is a title that is focusing on scaling with the player and their play styles when they play online... The main concept is Battle Universe. It is an open space where you can spectate fights." As for battle adjustments, in this link it says, "This title is based on "Virtua Fighter esports" Ver.2.0, and the balance has been adjusted for the first time in 13 years, focusing on the items most requested by users. Having all of this new Virtua Fighter content and information dropped a day before my birthday feels so surreal. When I wasn’t indulged in Tekken, VF4 and original VF5 were the other two fighting games I spent my childhood days tirelessly playing. This just motivates me to start playing Showdown. I already own it, but I haven’t had the motivation to actually play it until now. Also, can we talk about the absolute BANGER MUSIC!? So many uncultured gamers who just don’t get it, this is peak SEGA. We THRIVE on the cheesy early 2000s power ballad karaoke singing. 😭

Remember that November 21st was the best day for VF players and fans including myself. I'm extremely excited to play VF5 REVO with people again and hear Takenobu Mitsuyoshi's amazing voice in the opening. The biggest things to look forward to with the PC version is rollback netcode and the possiblity of mods! Let's gooooo! 🔥✊️

Virtua Fighter is a major part of my childhood. VF4 and VF5 in particular have had major impacts on my artistic tastes and as such I'm ovet the moon about this news. Hopefully the game will come early winter before the year is over!!

Finally, I have a reason to dust off my arcade stick! I held out hope for a PC port eventually, but rollback is a sign that Sega wishes for this to hold us over till VF6! And the balance changes, good or bad should allow the community to adapt together. I dropped Sarah for Brad in VF5 Ver.C so long ago on the 360, so I'm excited to relearn his facets without baggage.

I haven't played VF5 since whichever version was on the XBox 360 back in like 2010. I played Brad and Lion back then, but I've gotten into Sumo since then and I hope Taka is a reasonable character so I don't have to listen to everybody complaining about my character like I currently do with King and Eddy in Tekken.

They are a bit obtuse with these releases, wouldn't it make sense to release this multiplatform all 3 consoles and PC with crossplay support? What we have at the moment is the original VF5 on ps3 and Xbox 360 of which the Xbox 360 version had online play. then a PS3 and Xbox 360 version of Final Showdown. On modern systems the Xbox Series players have access to Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown which is the backwards compatible Xbox 360 version of the game, PS5 have the Ultimate Showdown, then PC have R.E.V.O. Just feels odd to not combine player bases.

Well there's a lot of animations left over from vf1. Street Fighter 6's animations are obviously from another universe. That's why I'm looking at vf6 with trepidation. Even Capcom admitted that sf6 has a budget deficit. Fighting games are an expensive genre.
