Bonjour VF Team, I HOPE this GAMEPLAY : Hello VF enthusiasts! So, what about this "CRAZY" trailer? Unprecedented fluidity, never-before-seen combinations, "limited" combos that are practically infinite, starting from any hit and able to connect with all others - that's what I'm hoping for.

@@TrickyEileen yeah, I knew that. I think I unintentionally targeted my question towards the Tekken part. I tried DOA a long time ago and I might try it again because in terms of 2.5D fighters, I only have Tekken experience (and I'll probably try VF too) so I take a look at the different philosophies.

@@burni988 Well, as much as I love T8 after starting my Tekken journey with 7, I can understand this isn't what they would like to see in a Tekken game. And I'm even more glad that they decided to search for something else instead of putting 10 000 hours on the game and shitting on it at the same time.

Glad you spoke on the fact that we are all, collectively, standing on the shoulders of giants with fighting games. I think that's why the FGC is so strong despite being so niche, the genre being so opaque with its core mechanics means you can't intuit how they work on your own, so you _need_ someone else to help you. Also, the gatekeep-y knowledge hoarding that oldheads did is so funny in retrospect. Like, yeah, in the arcade era there's a financial incentive, but in the console era? Where you're just fucking around at your local? Like, oh yeah, you really need that $24 prize pool and refusing to help anyone is the only way you can get it 😂 I'm glad those types are mostly gone now.

I have to insist that gatekeeping is a behavior and not a tactic. The people doing it never have skills themselves and this is a prime example of it. Here's hoping that this is an example of growing pain in the community and everyone learns from it. I've seen the same thing with Tekken but everyone hates playing Tekken unless they're playing your character then you hate it too. 😅

Toxicity in FGC is a very complicated issue compared to other game genres
@TrickyEileen
@TrickyEileen 12 сағат бұрын
@@gekinetic care to elaborate?
@gekinetic
@gekinetic 10 сағат бұрын
@@TrickyEileen Couple factors involved IMO: First on new player aspect - It would be how League and COD don't need community-based onboarding like fighting games do. So even though toxicity do exist in LOL/COD community, most people don't need to worry about it because they can play by themselves and still manage to have fun. After all, everyone understands LMB, E, Q, etc. Not so much for fighting games, where having different unique terminologies (QCF LP, DF1, 3P, etc) means people have to dig deeper to play fighting games at bare minimum casual level. They get their dumpty whupped, and at that point either they stop and go for more accessible games to play, or jump into community discord/reddit to try and find answers. Which leads to community aspect, where a lot of people are hypocrites who keep sayin 'let go of your ego', but they keep their own egos unchecked. A lot of these people put themselves up in their own pedestal just because they know how to flick stick and mash buttons better than 90% of populace. This in turn leads to terrible onboarding because they find people who can't understand what they're teaching (their fault for thinking how they learned FG is one-size-fits-all) to be lazy and egotistical. Of course people will become frustrated at losing and not understanding why they lost, how does that translate to 'egotistical'? Same people who keep saying 'learn at your own pace' don't seem to follow up on it and lose their patience, which leads to perception of FGC being toxic So that's how I feel about FGC toxicity: it's a mix of genre's unique complexity leading people into a gamble whether they enter community with proper onboarding capability or not, and some people already in the community oblivious of their own toxicity and write off backlash as 'casual ignorance' when they were the ones unable to adapt and adjust their teaching method

I have come to realize and accept that even for a small VF community, it is made up of niches within a niche. Nothing wrong with that and with how the internet is currently there are many avenues for all different niches (social media sites, twitch, unofficial VF Discord, official VF Discord, and even VFDC!). There will always be people you get along with and those you don't and that is fine! As veterans of VF who want to see the overall community grow. I suggest to those vets, if you happened to watch or read something related to VF that is incorrect or can be expanded on, politely let that creator know. Not one single person has influence over the "entire community". So the more the merrier!

It's all a balance, you're going to those who are genuine, kind, and willing to give you advice, and you are going to have those that are ether A. Elitist B. Narcissistic or C. Trolls. That doesn't give 2 shits if you're new, amateur, or pro. That is, unfortunately, the laws of the jungle in the fighting community. It's a balance.

I think any community has the potential to be both good and bad. It all comes down to curation and the behaviors that are tolerated and encouraged. I generally believe that any space can be welcoming and enjoyable, no matter the negative connotations or associations it might traditionally carry. For example, dismissing someone’s perspective with comments like, 'Oh, you got that opinion from Twitter/4chan/Reddit/Discord/ResetEra? Of course, it's dumb!' is unfairly stereotyping an entire platform without giving it a chance. Just as your algorithm or news feed can be tailored to your interests and niche, communities can thrive with proper curation and moderation, whether it's a subreddit, Discord server, or online forum. Labeling an entire platform as bad does more harm than good. It's more productive to focus on improving specific aspects of a community rather than writing off its members wholesale. What happened here might feel like a setback, but I see it as a necessary learning experience-one that can ultimately help pave the way for a better future for Virtua Fighter, both for newcomers and long-time fans. In this new era of the FGC, where grassroots efforts are becoming less common and online communities are the norm, it’s important to build constructive spaces that unite players. If SEGA is looking forward to the future, we should do the same. (Also, 11:20 gesundheit!)

Everyone's singing koombaya in the comments and its all nice and stuff, but imma inject some harsh reality. In Tekken, for example, many content creators are obvious shills and industry plants, that will fake hype up dlcs, complain about something at one point, then do a sudden 180 and start praising it, etc etc. That thing splits the community in half immediately. Hope its not gonna happen to VF.

Didn’t know Rooflemonger did all that shit for you. I know VSAV community don’t like him for stuff he made and he’s had beef with some parts of dbfz community, but if he’s doing all that then he’s okay. Biggest takeaway I had from this whole saga is that VF gotta stand up for itself and set the example on how to communicate these ideas to other folks who wanna get started. There’s a lot of good strong players coming up and their insight would be valuable. Reach out with a hand first rather than wait for them to speak to us.

Dude has been so helpful behind the scenes. A lot of larger creators have been and continue to be. I don't talk about it cuz it feels gauche. I have heard some issues in those scenes too, and I dunno. Given my own experience with my own scene, there are surely people who hate him in my scene too for whatever random slight that was made to the wrong person inadvertently through some indirect comment. From what I've seen/heard regarding those community issues it doesn't make sense to me, but I"m not also going out of my way to dig into some super specific inside baseball (which was my read on what I had seen or had presented to me months ago). We have scenes with out and about Nat**is' who call themselves that word in the FGC. I think our ire is better focused on them.
