@bitset37414 жыл бұрын
The polygons were being rendered on the chip in the cartridge and then being transferred to video using DMA. The Sega CD wouldn't have added anything. The stock Genesis could render a couple thousand polygons per second (Kawasaki Superbike, Hard Drivin' Race Drivin' various flight sims etc. show that) The chip in Virtua Racing could render over 9000 per second - quite a bit faster. What WOULD have been interesting though is a Sega CD game, that could work with the Virtua Racing cart installed and load data from the cd while rendering stuff with the chip in the cart.... I never thought of that before, I need to check and see if it was possible (probably would had needed additional code in the cart. )

@Bloodreign13 жыл бұрын
@@matthewmiguel8108 Except you'd be dead wrong, the SNES is superior in every area but CPU, but makes up for it with a powerful GPU. It's always the countries outside of the world's 2 biggest gaming markets, the US and Japan, that always seem to believe the Sega was ultrapowerful while the areas Sega got killed in sales know the SNES had a 2 year technical advantage in hardware due to being released 2 years after the Genesis. You must be getting your numbers from Sega Retro, where it seems they made up every number in the Genesis' favor, when those numbers are present nowhere else. Face it, the only Sega console more powerful than the others for it's generation was the Saturn, and it was a nightmare to program for. Yeah, the SMS was more powerful than the NES, but the NES was also older hardware, and it STILL made no difference as the SMS was like tumbleweed in the wind here in the US. Lot of insecure Sega fanboys roaming KZbin these days. 16 bit wars are over buddy, and your console came out on the short end of the stick.

@@SonicAdventureX Gaming was just a lot more expensive back in the day. It's actually kind of fascinating how games are *only* $70 each these days when that was a standard price when I was a kid, and games in the 16-bit era had maybe 5-6 people working on em. Even the N64/PS1 era had comparably tiny teams. The difference is most people just rented games and you'd only own a game if you really really liked it. That structure doesn't really exist anymore... RIP blockbuster lol. I'm not advocating for higher prices, but I think services like Game Pass are a nice workaround if they do. Games these days require massive teams, and unless you sell an absolute crapload of games it ends up being a financial loss. It's probably a big factor to all the layoffs we've been seeing in the industry lately...
