Join me in this virtual bird watching trip in Bangkok at Lat Krabang Rice Fields. Birding in Thailand rice fields is always fun and this habitat is home to an amazing number of birds. Lat Krabang Rice Fields is a good place to see a lot of rice field birds at all times of the year within the bounds of Bangkok, close to Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Birding here is best to visit between the months of November to April when a lot of migratory birds can be seen but in May there are still some interesting birds to see. In this first of my video birding adventures I will show birders Asian Golden weaver in breeding plumage, Oriental Pratincole, Watercock in breeding plumage and colourful Javan Pond Herons; just some of the birds in this virtual birding trip.

What an interesting little bird. I love seeing new birds that I have never heard of. :) I don't like birding when it is hot either. :)

Well then, watching from the comfort of your armchair is best here, it was extremely hot and humid. Birding in the mountains of northern Thailand in December, January and February is much more pleasant though in terms of climate.

Wow! so close to the airport... but I suppose you'd need to get a taxi and ask him to come after a few hours, no way to rent a motorbike, or public transportation starting from the airport?
@BirdingwithNick
@BirdingwithNick 11 ай бұрын
You are correct on all accounts there. It is not an easy place to visit if you are on a stopover or staying near the airport. There is car rental at the airport but no motorcycles as far as I know and not something I would recommend anyway given the traffic.

It looks a gorgeous birding spot. I've never been to Thailand. I'm familiar with some species, but most are totally exotic to me. Your narration is very interesting and helpful. I also like your English accent 😃

Very nice video Nick. I think this is the way to go - with intros and outs, and extra commentary in between. I will be continuing in this kind of style once I can get back out into the field. I'll also be adding some behind-the-scenes stuff, so that viewers can see how some of the shots were obtained etc. Where is your next video coming from?
@BirdingwithNick
@BirdingwithNick 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for those kind comments. Yes, that is one way to make the videos more interesting but I am sure there are others too. I was also thinking of behind the scenes stuff, I would be interested to see yours for sure. Lots of room for improvement, shorter time talking to camera, longer on the birds, different pacing, but you have to start somewhere hey? Hopefully I will be visiting Bang Pra, Chonburi, in the next few days and maybe try making a similar video. I will look out for yours.
@thailandwild4897

@@BirdingwithNick Yes, as you say. There are many ways that you could try to use your footage, and it would be interesting to experiment. Given your in-depth knowledge of the subject, I would like to see you doing some narration, to interpret the images that we are seeing, particularly perhaps, if we hear a different bird in the background, you might mention what species it is we are hearing etc. Occasionally, when I was filming for Earth Touch, I was able to do a live narration whilst filming.... It really added a nice feeling of being right in the moment.... especially when it was some exciting behaviour etc.
@BirdingwithNick
@BirdingwithNick 4 жыл бұрын
@@thailandwild4897 I really appreciate that suggestion. I will give it some thought on how best to incorporate that into future videos. I must admit I favour the "being in the moment" feel rather than after the event narration. Thanks.
