Virtual Puppy Class: A glimpse into Week 2!

I just want to celebrate the hard work of our Virtual Puppy Class owners, as they wrap up Week 2 of training!
As we've been building engagement and confidence with our puppies through food work and improving typical puppy troubles like potty training, crate training, and nipping, it was time to move on to the walk!
Moving nicely with you on a leash does not come naturally to puppies, and we are working hard on continuing to build attention and engagement outside and on the walk through the heel command and auto sit! Owners have been practicing the language of the leash, working on pressure and release, to help teach their pups how to walk with a soft lead by their side!
In addition to working on the walk, puppies are practicing impulse control and focus with eyes contact exercises as they wait for food! Many people get discouraged that their puppy only listens for treats or stares at the treat and ignores you - by building a pattern of indirect rewards for behavior, we can teach our pups to check in with polite eye contact to get what they want and when we say their name!
I am so proud of all of the families in this class, as they are working hard to build an foundation of relationship and life skills that will benefit their puppy as they grow! It's always important to remember we are actually raising dogs, not puppies, so teaching them what you want and how to behave and listen from the beginner sets you up for success in the future!
We're only two weeks into our six week class, and I am so impressed with how much the puppies have learned and progressed! I can't wait to see how much they've grown up (physically and behaviorally) when we finish!
