Before knowing what it would really sound like, I switched the lights off making my room pitch black, completely turned the light off on my MacBook screen and hit the space bar (play). That was probably the strangest thing I've ever experienced. Since I there was no video or light sound, you focus purely on the sight of his voice and the room around you. That was unbelievable.

Lets give credit where credit is due. This is a technology called Ambisonics which works on the spherical field of sound. It can be decoded to any number of speakers in any configuration. It was invented by Michael Gerzon and Dave Malham. It's been around since the 1970's and really needs to be given more focus as this wipes the floor with all other surround sound formats. I myself am very excited about this technology as I studied this at University. Code Masters have been using it in games for a long time. Lets push this forward as it truly is the next level.

+Simon Stacey What we DON'T need is corporates starting legal battles over copyright and patent issues. That would be a nightmare. It would be yet another example of how the exploitative corporate and legal systems work together (especially in America) to hold back the development of the entire human race. :-(
@S3nt1n3l18 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I'm fed up of patent trolls as well. I just want the other side of that coin represented as I also don't like people passing off others work as their own. Michael Gerzon died many years ago and this is his legacy. All information about Ambisonics is available online in one form or another, but the filter requirements are a little more difficult to obtain. Not sure who owns the patents anymore.

I love binaural recording I first experienced this in 2010 when this incredible guy I know who makes mind blowing stuff for people like a pair of rayban frames with windscreen wipers tiny motor they look great, any how he made these mics that you put in your ears. I wore mine connected to a Dat Machine and his to a Phillips voice recorder. I had no idea what to expect. But when we went back to his fun house of gadgets and toys he played it all to me. I was totally blown away I’ve never heard anything like it since this is good but what I experienced was on another level. We walked and talked with people in Victoria Park and Regents Canal under the little bridges the play back took me back there. This is sound nothing like your used to with normal playback. People with no sight would be totally engrossed…

@@janini1232 Yes, right, the sound refuses to come from our front. This is not the only demo with such an effect. In fact, all of them are doing like this. It is only a very good quality stereo, were the source of sound moves between the two speakers of headphones. This is because the artificial head method is not enough for reproducing the real thing.

Real 3D sound not this post processing 8D or 9D people are so amazed over these days. Thats just fixing a speaker on a string and swing it around your head until you get sick of it. By the way, the easiest way to do your own Binaural recordings is to use a high end cellphone that have 2 microphones. One at top and bottom of the phone. Samsung Note 5. Set recording to highest quality stereo. Here's the dorky part. Hold the phone horizontal and put it against your nose bridge, almost at eye level. Now the two microphones should be close as possible to your own ears. Record and then playback over earphones. Its amazingly real!
