I was an 80's kid. GI Joes were my favorite! Back then I modeled on stage at the mall a couple times and won. Winners received toy certificates. I remember buying He- Man. That smell of rubber, meaning brand new. Anytime I smell that same rubber smell it immediately brings me back to the 80's. You have an awesome collection!

as an '80s child growing up in England, this was my bread & butter!! Without doubt my fav toyline was M.A.S.K., but like you my parents couldn't (or wouldn't!) afford to feed the collection, so I too dreamed of what it would be like to own them (aside from the ones I got bought at birthdays/Christmas) and cherish them without ever doing so....I lived in a part of Greater Manchester called Middleton. There was a huge Arndale centre in town and at the back of it was a kinda supermarket mum used to shop in and on one specific aisle was just rows and rows of toys where I used to lose myself! There was also another store (John Menzies?) that used to have toys right at the back....ahhhh, the memories! Now, at 45 I can really appreciate your collection and what you've done, how you've recaptured the magic of your childhood and the fact your wife has helped and supported it is just as awesome! Fantastic, just way too cool; thank you for sharing and re-igniting blissful childhood memories :)

Hey, I’m here because of Rebel Force Radio. Mind blowing stuff! I grew up in Yugoslavia and we had to go to Italy or Austria to get toys like LEGOs, which were the only expensive toys my parents decided to buy for me, because we didn’t have money to spare and after seeing how creative I got with LEGOs, they saw the value in them. Just looking at LEGO catalogs gave me hours of pleasure and daydreaming. 80s really was a special decade.

I work at a Toys R Us here in Canada and while I agree I don’t necessarily feel that magic in the store any more either. I can happily say the kids still do. That’s the best part of my job, seeing the little kids sprint ahead of their parents to get to the door and run to the section they know their favourite toys are. And seeing the joy as they stare in amazement at their hero’s.

I think the thing that 80s toys has is the creativity. Everything looks cool, colourful, and has creative designs. Most things now a days are based on something else, and there’s been a bit of a change of focus from children to a more collector oriented market.

I love your message about not settling in a relationship with someone that doesn't empathize with your desires. Hey I came across these lovely videos the other night and it brought back memories, you see my life can be stressful at times working dead end jobs, and trying to raise a family and sometimes I yearn for my childhood. On my quiet times when the kids aren't around me and my wife always watch old 80s commercials and we try sometimes catching an 80s movie or T.V. show here or there, some people don't bother looking back at there childhood but the 80s was a decade of such great things that I can't let it go, I love the toys the movies the shows everything was awesome.I just Remember opening up my MANTECH toys during Christmas time and being so excited, alot of people don't even remember Captain Power when I saw that my Nostalgia feels went nuts.Anyway just wanted to say Thanks for showing your collection, it looks awesome. And if you ever would like to talk 80s stuff I have so many things I remember. Thanks

This is absolutely stunning, every collectors dream to have a display room like this! So many times I remember being in toy stores and seeing walls of carded figures and being told 'no, its too close to your birthday/xmas' or 'if I buy you one I have to buy your brother one so no'. It made the times I did get something all the more special though! ;-)

Your intro was superb! You're right, just getting to a toy store to simply look was amazing. I grew up in a small Minnesota town. We had NO toy stores. Your museum room set up is more Toys 'R' Us than Toys 'R' Us Has been in the past 2 decades. The lighting and the set up all perfectly recaptures the feeling of an 80s Toys 'R' Us. There is just a warm and fuzzy feeling when watching all these virtual tours. Excellent Work!

Thanks! So glad to hear that. I love that I'm able to share it with fellow 'Toys R Us kids' who grew up in the same era as me. There are some younger people who don't get it and some who even go so far as to make personal attacks, and I just feel sorry for them. Empty inside and dying for attention. Not willing to do anything positive to get it. With the mass sadness of TRU closing down, I'm glad I can share this little piece of it frozen in time with those who saw it first hand. :D

You're welcome! Ah the video game section, when you had to take a slip of paper where the game box was and take it up to the register to get the game. :D

YES!! But I also remember they had so much "weird and generic toys" that you could spend hours looking at!!!! I've tried looking for videos of Toys R us during those years, but no one carried a camera around like we do now! what a shame! Thank you for recreating the memories for us!!!

Great vid bud. I have my mighty morphin power rangers collection from the 90s, I was the person who never had the toys when I was younger but everyone else did. I had to wait 20+ years until I had the money to buy mine. All brand new inside the original boxes all still sealed. One day I will have my own gaming room / man cave with my display.

My husband and I are 80s toy collectors, when we were friends we talked about it, when we got married we started working on it, now that we have kids they are passionate about it. It has become a family tradition. Now we own our own toy musseum

Gorgeous collection. Like you I LOVE going to Toys R US (well loved now, RIP) and when I had kids of my own I wanted to share that joy. So we taught our kids at a very young age that we could all go and "play" at the toy store but we wouldn't always buy anything. In fact the majority of the time we walked away without buying anything. That lesson worked amazingly well and even now that my kids are teens it sticks. My son is really into video games but we can still go into a GameStop or other video game store and "play" without worrying he's going to freak out if he doesn't get a new game. TLDR Lessons: One, 80's toys were great! Two, set the standards and teach kids early and they won't become hellacious monsters.

Boy am I glad to hear that! Nice to know there's still kids like that around, and parents able to teach them to be that way. Thanks for sharing! :D

Very very very inspiring you have motivated me to start my own personal museum lil by lil... You definitely took me to my child hood peg hunting and just looking at the toys at toyrus because my parents didn't have much money ( never any tantrums lol maybe once or twice lol) but did very well bringing us up.. 1 toy a month but just going there was like going to theme park waoooo great nostalgic memories I can feel it now.. Thanks again keep up the great work I respect your grind..

I had a lot of this stuff. I always tell my sons I wish I could take them on a shopping spree in an 80’s Toys r us. 80’s were the best decade to grow up.

In the 80s we didn’t have much money either. My parents still got me many G.I. Joes for Christmas and my birthday. I used cardboard boxes and my imagination to create vehicles and equipment we couldn’t afford. The fun and memories, though, were priceless.

Sick Video Brings back alot of memories - my brother and I would go to this specific Toys R Us every Thursday night in the mid 80's to spend time with our best friends Shockwave, the Crimson Twins and Si Snoodles and the Rebo Band.

I have a collection of Eaglemoss lead figurines in my office. After watching this I feel totally normal. Actually I feel impoverished. Thank you sir. This is art.
