The Srirangam Temple or the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is a temple in Sriranga, an island in the city of Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Ranganatha, a reclining form of the Hindu deity Maha Vishnu. This temple exhibits a beautiful form of Dravidian architecture glorified by Alvars, the Tamil poet saints, in their Divya Prabandha - a collection of 4,000 Tamil verses composed by the 12 Alvars. This temple holds the unique distinction of being the foremost among the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is situated in an ethereal setting on the island of Srirangam and holds a lot of religious and spiritual significance. It attracts devotees from all over the world. The kind of religious fervour you will see here is unparalleled. People from all corners of the world visit this temple to pray to their beloved deity and ask for blessings and miracles.
The Srirangam Temple is one of the grandest and most illustrious temples in South India. It has legends and history attached to it. It played a significant role in the history of Vaishnavism in South India- a school of thought that traces back to the 11th century. One of the most important exponents of Vaishnavism was the prominent Indian theologian, Ramanuja. The Srirangam temple is not merely a temple but it encompasses an entire temple town within itself. It boasts of a Sapta-Prakaram formation, a temple centred settlement pattern that comprises seven concentric rectangular enclosures also known as Parakramas. These parakrams are formed by thick and huge walls that surround the sanctum sanctorum that is presided by the deity. This Temple-Town typology is unique to this part of the world and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is an exceptional example of the same.

Through Ranga Ranga Tower (south side) u can go to main deity dharshan... U can join queue before Garudalvar sannidhi.. Normal days and crowded days this is the way..

@@maniacram I said what I said intentionally to use the language of the people who call these places holy. It is not based on anything Christian. I am not even sure I consider myself a Christian. In case of India this is not an uncommon thing. The river Ganges is supposed to be “holy” and “sacred” yet it is the one of the most polluted rivers in the world. Both by industrial waste and by the human waste.

@@StopFear well you are not wrong. People need to take care of themselves and their places. Where I disagree though is crowds and commercial stalls. I don't see what's the problem with that. You cant just make your place of worship a showpiece and ask people to keep a distance. There's no life in that. It needs to be part of the people. People need to do business, what's wrong with that. Nothing unholy about honest business. Cleanliness and tidiness however seem to be an elusive goal that is out of reach of most Indians right now. I have no answer to that 😕
