Just wanted to share this as a nijisanji fanboy: During the era of Kizuna A.I., short vids of skits and edited let’s play vids were the normal format for vtuber videos. It was Nijisanji that greatly influence vtubers into doing live streaming instead. Tsukino Mito, the poster girl of nijisanji, is credited for this and thats why you’ll see and hear vtubers heavily respecting her.

oh yea youre right, i do remember the old era of kizuna, mirai, kaguya when they were all legit edited videos and i didnt even come across any livestreams of vtubers, didnt notice until the successors from both sides only livestreamed. its very surreal to know that the thousands of vtubers now dont have any legit youtube videos like the ogs. also yea i like nijisanji alot bc of their diversity my fav is ars almal and kanae
@PiekronMaster3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMultiMechs You can attribute one of the reasons the OGs just fade out of existence is that they failed to adapt or that they adapted to livestreaming a little too late. Of course, there are are other factors (bad management and such) to their downfall. Also, nice. Personally I've been closely following Nijisanji ID. You've mentioned in ur vid that you are engaging less w/ vtubers. I find that following ones that you can understand helps a lot in keeping u in the vtuber hole lol. They all can speak english. Their fanbase is really solid and since they arent as big as say Hololive EN/ID, you can engage with them a lot more. Great video btw!

@@PiekronMaster yea I would agree on that, as kizuna ai is still the largest with almost 3 mill, gawr gura is catching on real quick. Also yea I've been around niji Id since the beginning of 2020 and actually discovered hana when I was doing research collecting data from around that time! Amazing to see it grow so fast

There is a transition between pre recorded content to livestream content that I think it is really important.
@TheMultiMechs3 жыл бұрын
oh yea another comment mentioned that and i also just recalled that era, i didnt research that much into vtubers content but what do you remember from the transition period and who were there?
@zeki13 жыл бұрын
@@TheMultiMechs sorry but I missed the transition. I remember watching Kizuna Ai content back then but after that period I begun watching Vtubers again during Quarantine around April 2020 (another reason for the recent explosion of popularity)

The early exposure i've gotten was from the series 'Virtual-san wa Miteiru' (other than kizuna ai and clips) which highlighted the early vutubers as well as fan made vtuber. really was a bold concept (around this time, kizuna was the talk of the town) as it was a hub to promote vtuber and gather the community. Still waiting for the 2nd season.......

As someone whose knowledge of Japanese media and culture doesn't extend much past what I've read in Murakami novels (I don't really watch anime), I found this quite interesting to learn about. The Virtual KZbinrs trend is one that has entirely passed me by and while I don't think I'll be rushing off to watch any of them lol, I always like to broaden my knowledge on random topics like this. Great video as usual, Mechs! This kind of content really hits that "edutainment" sweet spot. The animation and characters+ continuity help the video and, by extension, whole channel feel unique. Hope this blows up and I'm excited for the next one.

I don't think there will be a death of smaller VTubers. Or... at least, I sure hope there won't be. Corporate / idol VTubers and independent VTubers have very different feels to them overall. Idol VTubers, by definition, always have to keep a massive distance between themselves and their audience whilst still seeming "available". The smaller VTuber community is so interesting because audiences often include other VTubers who are in the same community, so it's a lot more like sharing a family with them. And, of course, the diversity. I thought my taste in male characters was really picky and indescribable... then, I got into the rabbit hole that is non-corporate VTubers and I'm like, "WHY THE HELL ARE THERE SO MANY CUTE / HANDSOME GUYS IN THIS COMMUNITY WTH". There's a hugely variable degree of "seiso", and nobody's required to uphold a certain level of it. I think it's pretty amazing and I hope it won't completely disappear.

I loved this a real solid examination of the history but the skit at he start kind of distracted from the “meat” of the video. I sort of disagree about the last bit. While vtubers is the trending thing and will in time be less trendy I don’t think they will ever go away.

Oh sorry the animated bits are plot for the series, but I can see your point bc of the level of fan loyalty, makes sense that they'll hang around even when the trend goes out
