NOTE: for newer versions of VirtalBox, the host-only adapters are no longer under preferences. Now they are found in the File menu under "Host Network Manager".

I have been looking into this mess for 4 hours by now, until I stumbled upon your video. As it turns out, the only step I kept missing was the part where you unticked Ethernet2 checkboxes. Now it works like a charm. You are a life saver, sir!

You are a life saver. I have an octopus server on my host machine and think I accidentally got networking to allow Octopus to talk to a tentacle on a Win 2016 Server on VirtualBox - this was in the morning. After I had to reboot everything stopped working and I spent the entire day scratching my head and trying to get this setup to work again. Luckily I found your video an it was a piece of cake afterward. I can't say thanks enough. Paul, Thanks. And all the best with everything in life :). You are the greatest!

I was searching for days until coming across this video. The excellent manner in which it is presented made it very easy to follow.😊

super useful to clarify the networking with virtual box. i saw so many tutorials for "internet access" where they told you to just shut off your wifi, put it to bridged, then turn on your wifi. (yet to test if my vm works with this, it might not its a little iffy, but holy man this tutorial taught me SOOO much)
@Evercreeper4 жыл бұрын
watched entire tutorial, and it was helpful to get my ip and stuff all set up but my mac os is not having my wifi haha. mac settings are so child-proof that there is hardly any settings even under "advanced settings". going to continue forth the search to get my safari working, but again, thank you so much.

Fantastically explained ! You are obviously a networking expert and if I may ask you a networking question. Will a Windows Server 2012's DHCP server assign IP addresses to wireless devices that connect to the Router's Wifi network if the router is on the same subnet as the Windows Server ? These devices will not be logging in to the domain.

Your video was great and i have a setup similar to what you showed and after following your instructions all is working just like you showed on my system. I have one question. Do you know if it is possible to access the VM's from other computers on the network. I can see all the computers and network printers on my network from the VM but cannot see either of the VM's. Don't know if this is possible but I will try anything you suggest. You created one of the best detailed videos on this procedure.
@ServerAcademy7 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Glad it helped. You have two options: 1) Use a bridged network adapter (www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#network_bridged) or 2) Setup port forwarding for the services you want to be accessible (www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#natforward). Most likely you want to use a bridged network adapter.

I would really appreciate it if you could share any link on how to do this or if you already have a tutorial for the same please share the link. Awaiting for your reply. Thanks, Shri
@ServerAcademy4 жыл бұрын
You couldn't use a host-only network adapter - you need to use Bridged network adapters. This will cause your networks router to view the VMs as physical computers and assign them both IP addresses that you can access just like you would with a regular computer.

Very nice video. Still, I can't get it to work. Even though I assigned host-only network adapter to my VM, when I start it in Control Panel I don't have any network connections. In device manager there are exclamation marks next to network controllers. Could it be because my host network adapter is Realtek, and not Intel?

Thats a great video, Thank you for sharing. Im woindering if you wanted to join those VMs together as 2 DCs in a forest, if you would have to change the dns entries to that of the main DC in the forest. It seems that with a google dns server, the authentication would faill when trying to join the forest. I could be wrong but just wondering what you think ? Thansk again
