I was sad to see the damage from Ian on your walk, but so thrilled with the beautiful shells you found. Cones were one thing I did not find while in Florida. I did take last night and today to clean the most crusty shells I found, so I'll be emailing pics soon!

Oh I know it was such a strange mix of feelings on this beach walk! Hopefully on your next trip you can snag some cones 🐚. Looking forward to your photos and enjoy the cleaning process! I LOVE cleaning shells. Take care and have a great week!

I am allergic to bug bites and I read from one of the video on KZbin that Sanibel and even Ft. Myers have a lot of those biting bugs due to the stagnated waters from the recent hurricane. Can someone tell me if there are going to be a lot of those biting bugs out in November?

No-see-ums, they are truly soldiers straight from the pits of hell! With all the organic debris from Debby yes they have been more of an issue recently-I’m on the east coast so I can’t speak as a “local” but do have friends on the west coast that have said they have been bitting bad lately. They usually bite during dusk and dawn and rarely bite during the daytime BUT with such matter on the beach, yeah you might have an issue. November may or may not have an issue just depends if any more summer/fall storms happen. Usually when it starts getting cooler out the no-see-ums issue goes away. They are a real issue in the winter. Especially at raw Florida beaches like the 10K’s & Honeymoon Island type beaches. I guess your best bet would try not to shell too early or too late in the day. Maybe even try snorkeling if you are into that way of shelling…they will not bother you in the water. Anyways, sorry I can’t be much more of any help. I hope you have a great trip in a couple of months. Take care!

@@FloridaBeachWalks 😢 We had planned to go down to Sanibel and even to visit Honeymoon Island for the first time because of the lowest tides during day time. December has lowest tides too but they are usually in the middle of the nights. It looks like I will have to apply a lot of bug repellent or even have to wear a Burqa like those Afghanistan ladies and go back to our room before sunset and not to step outside before sunrise. It looks like it’s going to be a new adventure that we have never experienced before. Oh well…c’est la vie. Anyway, I do want to thank you for sharing your vast knowledge and information on what to expect. Take care.

I am a shell nut too. Love your excursions❤ Have you ever watched Pam Rambo who is from the Sanibel area? She has one video where she goes post winter storm shelling and finds great True Tulips. Shell Stories has some post winter storm good videos too. 😊

Yes I think I've watched all of Pam Rambo's KZbin videos and have read a lot of her blogs! I wish she was still blogging and video blogging but what she has left on the internet is fantastic. Solace in Shelling from what I can gather really enjoys her content too. I have seen those tulip finds of hers...amazing! Lighthouse is my favorite beach on Sanibel. I do watch Shell Stories--I enjoy his content and he's got me wanting to go check out Holden Beach North Carolina!!!! I'm loving all these other KZbin shelling channels too. I've been wanting to start this KZbin channel for 3 years and I just couldn't watch shelling channels b/c it was like the knife twisting b/c I just couldn't get it off the ground (one thing or the other) but now that I'm "finally" up and running I'm soaking up these other channels too--love it!

@@FloridaBeachWalks you do a great job! Shell Stories has videos on Sanibel too. Older videos. In 2011 they did a beach renourishment and piled sifted material from the sand pumped as high as a house. They let us go through it after they finished work. I found beautiful shells. Helmuts, West coast shells, Caribbean shells. I went almost every evening. ❤️🙏

@@trinawright4137 OH MY GOODNESS AWESOME!!!! I'm telling ya, I wish every hard core sheller had the chance at a dredge pile! What year was that? If you don't mind sharing.

2011 Juno Beach. They dredged off Mac Arthur State Park. It was Winter. At first they just pumped the sand on the beach and had to go back and lift it so turtles could lay eggs. Before they sifted it the waves would hit the sand and shells would roll out and they were stacked in the sand. They put a new pile of sifted rocks/shells south of the pier daily. As tall as a house. ♥️ Junonia, horse conchs, tritons, different varieties of moon snails,shells I had to look up.

Great video! All those shells! 😍 I really like the educational parts as well. Keeps it even more interesting. I visited Sanibel Island right before Ian. Broke my heart when it hit and caused so much destruction. I hear it's recovering slowly but surely. Looking forward to the next video. 🙂🐚

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you, I'm trying to do just that with the educational parts--helps me learn more too, which is a win-win ❤️ Yes, Sanibel is coming right along, slowly but surely indeed. 🐚 Take care and I'm working on editing the next beach walk this week for next Sunday 👍🏼👍🏼

That horse conch was beautiful. God found that for you. Those alphabet cones were pretty sweet too. I know this is pretty common, but there was a giant shark eye at 18:11 rolling around in the surf. Those are so rare if it was whole.Almost baseball size. Blessings on your travels!

Yes He sure did! That shell made my day...my week over there on the west coast! Yes, I saw that...ahhhhh and was like "Roxann!" when watching these clips in editing! I do have about 20 humongous ones that I've gotten from dredge piles here over on the east coast--I can only put about 3 in my hand at one time. I love the swirls to the eyes on them. Thank you for your support. Have a great week!

I watched a video about crabs and whatever other sea life uses shells as their home It suggested you shouldn’t take this type of shell home as there is a shortage for sea life They are finding trash discarded on beach to use as a shell An example would be a jar cap etc
@FloridaBeachWalks
@FloridaBeachWalks 14 күн бұрын
There is another side to that story that they don’t tell and it’s the overabundance of trash in those areas that the crabs can be choosing trash over shells because plastic is lighter, and they tend to like lighter shells. It is not unlawful to collect empty shells from Florida beaches- except for national parks you cannot collect gastropods from there (example the Everglades). You can’t take anything for that matter not even sticks. If one chooses not to collect an empty shell or to collect an empty shell, that is the decision of the individual and their choice should be respected. Shell collecting has been a part of human history for all time according to written record. With all the dredging I’ve seen here in Florida it blows my mind how many millions of shells they collect out of small areas while pumping sand-there is NO shortage of shells in Florida. Not to mention after a storm the gazillion piles of shells washed up by the storm that were just off shore.
